My only "gripe" with the Thule Chariot lineup is that the single seater model is not actually centered with your bike. It's slightly offset to the left, so you have to keep that in mind when navigating through narrower stuff. Your own tire line won't be the center line of the trailer and it gets even worse with wider hub bikes or thru-axle adapters with spacers. The hitch arm is clearly designed with the much wider two seater model in mind. I wish they actually produced model specific hitch arms at this price point. But enough with the rant. We love the Chariot Cross 1 and these videos really helped us to choose the right version. Thanks for the review. Lite didn't have any proper storage and the Sport version had stuff we really didn't need to justify the much higher cost. Cross was the best fit for our needs.
@Twowheelingtotsbikes
@Twowheelingtotsbikes Год назад
That is interesting as we never experienced that issue. The Burley trailers are all purposely made with an off-set hitch that sets the trailers a bit off to the side. Our Thule trailers have always seemed quite centered behind our bikes. Does your bike have a particularly wide hub?

Thanks for the review! I am torn between the Cross 1 and the Sport 1 for our first trailer/jogger. I love the idea of the removable side windows on the Sport for better ventilation in Texas summers but not sure if its really needed. The Sport 1 isn't available new in the US so I'm trying to determine if the extra airflow is worth the hoops to jump through to get one from Canada or one of the used ones floating around eBay.
@Twowheelingtotsbikes
@Twowheelingtotsbikes Год назад
Hey Bobby! The sport has been available for many years in international markets, but just recently became available here as a double trailer stroller. I’m not sure why they haven’t brought over a single trailer stroller as well. We also live in Texas, so I definitely understand the horrendous-ness of the summer… 🥵😂 we did not have an option to have a Sport, and the Cross did just great. I used it all summer for several summers. But I would also make sure to go out in the mornings only. You can also clip a portable fan to the top of the trailer if you don’t want to pay for the added shipping.

Hey so I was wondering how easy is this to manoeuvre as a regular stroller to walk around on both paved and rough roads ie going for easy hikes and in the snow/beach? Also if used as a jogging stroller do you find that not having handbreaks an issue? Thanks
@Twowheelingtotsbikes
@Twowheelingtotsbikes 2 года назад
You can actually buy a jogger wheel and handbrake if you'll be using this as a jogger often. For rough roads, we definitely recommend using the larger, air-filled jogger wheel over the smaller stroller wheels it comes with. However, the jogger wheels is fixed (doesn't swivel), so in jogger mode it is definitely more difficult to maneuver.

is there mesh vent in the backrest, or anywhere in the back of the stroller? I am drooling over the mesh in the front, and the sunshade. I don't even own a bike but this seems like an awesome everyday stroller to me

hi! would you say the front stroller wheels are very durable on rough terrain? such as hiking and gravel? if i use the stroller wheels everyday will they last a while? i’m iffy about the fixed jogging wheel and the other videos show people lifting the front up so the stroller wheels aren’t touching the floor. are they plastic or stroller like and durable? sorry for so many questions😅 thanks!
@Twowheelingtotsbikes
@Twowheelingtotsbikes Год назад
The front wheels are quite durable, but after about a year of daily use, I did replace them. They had lost most of their tread, and weren’t turning smoothly. I never had issues again once I replaced them. They are plastic covered in a rubber/foam like material.

Thank you so much! This is amazing❤️ how do you like jogging with it with the two front wheels?
@Twowheelingtotsbikes
@Twowheelingtotsbikes 4 месяца назад
We did plenty of casual jogging with this in two wheel stroller mode, and it worked great. That’s said, swivel wheels can actually be dangerous if you’re running at higher speeds, and they get caught on something and get stuck turned to the side. For true jogging, a dedicated jogger wheel will always be safer.

Very nice, I have googled for two things, brought me here, curious to ask: 1. how did you deal with dust and dirt coming from rear wheel? I tend to find it even with mosquito net down 2. Did you got tug-and-release feel, a little bit, when pulling the trailer?
@Twowheelingtotsbikes
@Twowheelingtotsbikes 2 года назад
Hi Ivan! For the dust, we never had an issue with this. Perhaps where you are riding the dirt is drier or looser? If it's bothering your child, you could have them wear sunglasses so at least the dirt doesn't get in their eyes? For the Cross, I never felt a tug-and-release feel, although I have felt that with other brands.

I know this is a super personal question so might be hard to answer, but can you weigh in some things to consider with getting a 2 seater vs the 1. I really like the idea of the single seat as it has a lot smaller of a footprint and we will predominantly use on a trail path with walk / road bike so it’s nice to have something skinnier. I worry that getting just the one though would be hard depending on the timing of future kids and want to make sure to get the most use from ours. I am hopeful to start our kids young on the bike and if they enjoy it could ride along as I pull the younger. Have you thought about this at all having tested the two seaters and owning the single?
@Twowheelingtotsbikes
@Twowheelingtotsbikes 2 года назад
This is a problem for a lot of people! A single trailer is definitely easier for all the reasons you mention. But a double gives you flexibility with the timing of future kids. You could always get the single now and upgrade to a double later if the timing doesn't work out for you. :-) Thule Chariot trailers hold up very well and I'm sure you could sell it for a good price used.

Thanks for the video - really useful! What's the youngest age of baby you can put in there to use it as a bike trailer? I'm hoping to have our (not yet arrived) baby on a bike as early as possible and am wondering if this is the best option for that? I think some brands recommend different minimum ages to others but I don't know if this is based on any practical reasons, or just something like legal liability?!
@Twowheelingtotsbikes
@Twowheelingtotsbikes 2 года назад
Hey James. The youngest age recommended for bike trailer mode is 12 months. (Although you'll have Europeans arguing that the US is too conservative.) There is no trailer that is "safer" for a child under 12 months. If you feel you want to ride before your child is 1 year, your pediatrician will be able to offer the best advice specific to your child. But if you buy the baby sling, you can begin using the trailer as a stroller starting as early as 4 weeks. We did that at it was such a blessing to be able to get outside!

I notice you have a positive video about the Burley D'Lite. What's your opinion of the Thule vs the Burley? Do you have an opinion which one rides most smoothly for the kids - both have suspension, correct?
@Twowheelingtotsbikes
@Twowheelingtotsbikes 4 года назад
Both have suspension, yes. I also love the D'Lite. While this is just my opinion and not scientific, just based on the "feedback" from my toddler, I would say that the Cross is a little bit smoother, but only when we're going over very rough terrain. Overall the Thule is a bit easier to use and is just more "luxurious". It's so easy to load the kids and really I just love the way the Thule cover opens and closes, and how the weather covers attach. The padding for the kids is also thinner but dense and cushioning and doesn't get in the way at all. Of course it's also the most expensive. But the little details make it totally worth it.

@@Twowheelingtotsbikes thank you! Yeah, I watched some more videos on the Thule and that thing is AWESOME. What a luxurious ride for the kids. We recently got a D'Lite X on a smokin deal. It's a great trailer. We love it. Absolutely no regrets there.

It depends on the size of the child. One of our testers was able to use the single Cross with her average-sized 5-year-old without any problems. Two five-year-olds, however, would be VERY snug fit, if they could even fit at all, in a double-cross!

Great video, just what I was looking for. How would you compare it to the Hamax Outback? Biggest differences and worth the extra money? Need some convincing arguments for the wife why we should get the Thule instead of the Hamax 😁
@Twowheelingtotsbikes
@Twowheelingtotsbikes 3 года назад
Hey Axel. Honestly, Cross all the way. It's much more lightweight, easier to load and unload kids, and the weather covers (rain cover and sunshade) are also much easier to use and offer better coverage. Additionally, if you're looking at the double, the Hamax is quite wide and actually can't fit through our front door. Tell the wife to email me at marketing@twowheelingtots.com if she needs more convincing. The Cross is the best thing I own!

Hello all, I have the Thile chariot sport and have purchased the running front wheel. I don't like it at all. it does not do well on twisty roads. so im wondering how replacing the front wheel with the body harness from the sky kit would work? has anyone tried or have thoughts? please, any input would be so greatly appreciated. Buy a jogger wheel for gravel roads. The stroller wheels work fine jogging on asphalt.
@boonsterboom3470
@boonsterboom3470 3 месяца назад
This video is quite old, but I still have a question: You have bought the Jogger wheel, but did not use it in the video when you were jogging. Was this just a decision for easier filming, or are you regularly jogging without the jogging wheel. I mean the wheel is not that cheap, so if jogging works fine without it, it would save a bit of money. Further question, did you use the baby supporter after the sling? We dont need the sling, as our daughter is already 12 months, but the baby supporter might be of interest, but it seems it does not fit together with a helmet.
@Twowheelingtotsbikes
@Twowheelingtotsbikes 2 месяца назад
Not using the jogger wheel was a personal preference for me. Because the jogger wheel is stationary (does not swivel), it is a bit of a pain to turn. My neighborhood paths are very winding, so not having a wheel that could swivel was really inconvenient. That said, the stationary wheel is meant for safety when running at high speeds. With swivel wheels... if one got stuck on a rock or in a crack and turned the wrong way, it could cause a very sudden stop of the whole trailer which could make you crash. I did not use the baby supporter after the sling, as by that point my daughter was plenty big enough to sit in the trailer on her own, without the need for additional support.

Thule uses C6 PFC in the DWR coating on this bike trailer (Thule informed me by mail 21/5-2021). PFCs in general have inherent environmental and toxicological concerns. I wish companies would use PFC free and biodegradable DWR coatings like OrganoTex.

The weight limit is always per child. So in this case… No child over 49 pounds should ever be riding in the trailer, even if the double trailer has a passenger capacity of almost 100 pounds.
