That worked! Changed from size 14 to an 11, changed to a thinner thread, it gave about 5-10 more thumps and now is purring. My repair customer will be so happy!
this has solved about a months worth of heart ache for me. I couldn't figure out why my new machine was thumping literally right out of the box (and no idea what I'm doing as I'm teaching myself to sew), went from a 14 to a 11. The machine isnow purring right along! Thank you for this!
OMG THAT WORKED!!! I bought a Husqvarna Viking Rose 600 from someone near my home and it was knocking. The needles the Seller gave me were all 90/14. I had 80/12's at home and changed it. OMG IT WORKED! The seller got rid of it because it was knocking and bought a Bernina. She also had an extra bobbin cover and extra screws in the bag. I'm guessing someone told her to buy a new ones??? I'm glad I came across your video🙏🏽🙏🏽
You are a lifesaver!! I had the correct needle for my project, and everything was fine until the very end. Suddenly I got a knocking sound and thought it was an issue with the gears. After watching your video, I decided to replace the needle with the same kind but just a new one. Knocking stopped!! Good as new. Perhaps the initial needle got dull, bent, or whatever. Just needed a new needle!! Was able to finish hemming my dress and it was smooth sailing. Subscribed immediately! You saved me a trip to the repair shop. Thank you!!!
My wife is thanking me for finding this info. Now I pass the thanks to you. You have a great voice for this kind of video. I will look at you channel👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you for this video!! I was fretting over my machine making that thumping noise while doing embroidery. and then my needle would fall out. It didn't do that until I changed it to an embroidery needle. I was concerned that my machine was too old and falling apart - it is a Pacesetter ULT 2003D which I know you have a few. Thank you again!!
You are my hero !!! ( must add you need quality thread also )....I changed the needle still had problems where the thread kept braking and then realised the thread is as important as the needle , so a big thank you to you , you saved my life
thank you thank you thank you. this was happening on my brother se2000. didnt realize there was another size for "embroidery needle" when i ordered another pack. when i checked the size ( after watching your video) i noticed the original size was 75/11, and the new ones i was trying to use was 80/12.
You solved my noise issues AND my tension issues. I don’t consider myself a beginner when it comes to understanding patterns, but I definitely am a beginner when it comes to my machine 😅
As a beginner I was so overwhelmed trying to figure out why my machine was making that thumping sound and wala you were right. I changed the needle and its back to normal now. My only question now is if the machine came with different needles or you can use different needles will it make that sound again when I go bigger? Thanks for the tip.
Wow! I kept going up and up in size trying to salvage my project (bought industrial instead of outdoor sunbrella). Who knew the problem was the needle was TOO BIG! Thank you!!
Oh wow! Thank you for this video. I'm an inexperienced sewer with a 2yo hardly used machine, and I had some fabric jam in the feed dogs recently so I got out my manual and took it apart, but when I put it back together I only hand tightened the needle - which then dropped and jammed in the bobbin holder (it did this twice before I discovered I should have used the little screwdriver). I put in a new needle as the dropped one (a 10/70) had bent but I only had a 14/90 (I figured as I was sewing drill cotton it would be ok) and it's been making that knocking sound since. I was worried I'd broken my machine with the needle dropping and jamming, but I'll get some new needles and give this a try. Thank you, you might have saved me an expensive (and hopefully not needed) service and repair.
I'm a BabyLock tech and I just had this happen on my wife's Solaris. I was going crazy trying to figure out why it was 'thumping' when all I did is adjusted the needle tension lol. Found out she broke a needle and put a new one in. I gave her a different one and boom it stopped. Thanks a million....
THANK YOU FOR THIS! My machine has been doing this and I am mass making homemade facemarks (COVID-19) and it was maddening! And I didn't want to break my machine. Thank you.
You too???I was making tons of mask as well and didn't know what it was or how to fix it. I went out and purchased a Brother for $80 and made over 1,000 masks...no problem. Then when my trusting Viking 930 Sapphire was thumping and I couldn't take it in because no repair shops were open and if there were, couldn't leave it for 2 weeks. Wish I'd of seen this earlier. Now I know. Now I just need to ask, how can you tell needle size if they aren't packaged anymore (long story). Does the color band indicate size?
Thanks for this! I was ready to let my machine in for a repair, all the other videos I looked at didn't go over size of the needle, and this fixed my problem immediately. Now i know better :D
Just revived a vintage kenmore and its been working great. Was playing with different stitches a layers and it started making noise. I was like "oh boy, now whats wrong". Glad I found this video before I paniced and tore into it.
Oh man! $200 just to walk into the shop! Janine Memory Craft 9450. Changed thread, changed needle, cleaned and oiled everything. Was about to cry and found you. Tried the 12 before I found you, (down from 14) changed to a 10!! I rarely sew patchwork with problems. Never like this. Persistence.
Thank you! I have heard my machine make that sound! It has also made a very loud bang, almost like when a needle breaks, then it gives an error. I have a Brother Runway Project machine, but it is about 20 years or more old. Some of my buttons stop working and sometimes they work. With that being said I just bought me a new Brother Sewing & Quilting Machine! A ton of stitches and fonts. I have gathering foot /double shirring foot. I would like to know how to use it with 2 layers of fabric, 1 layer without the pleats/gathers and 1 with it. Like making a bed skirt. I can do the gathering with a single layer, but having trouble with the 2 layers. I have not tried it on my new machine. I am making curtains with a ruffle. I don't have a ruffling foot. Thank you. Love your channel! :)
I appreciate this video to help us fix the thumps. Do you have any suggestions gift thumping when I have no needle, thread or fabric? My bobbin keeps trying to hop out of the holder on my top load Janome. Thanks
Thank you! Older 70's Kenmore is a workhorse and have been drilling out Covid Front Line mask covers. It got its thump going on and was terrified it was a motor issue. Needle is new...so I will check the size...hope it really is as easy of a fix!
thank you so much for doing this video.... was about to seriously think of tossing my new computerized singer c5200 due to being used to a "vintage" heavy duty machine. with the heavy duty machine i have, it's extremely durable and can take some abuse, but the newer computerized machines are more delicate and very touchy on needles and such.... this was very helpful!!
Thank you for your video! I am still having issues sewing through pleats. I only get the clunking sound when I go over pleats but everything else is smooth. I switched down from a size 14 to a size 11 and still have no luck.... any idea what it could be?? Thank you again!
Well thank you for that I will try to check again, even i just put oil all over I hated it when sewing machine too luid noise. I be back if i was able to fix it,,
I have a Singer 4452. Have this issue. I went from a 14 needle to an 11 hoping it would help, but it still does it. I wish someone could tell me what else to look for! So frustrating and I’m afraid I’m damaging the machine if I continue to use it.
I love the title you used for this video! I'm a huge fan of the BabyLock machines too. I also think we are way too excited to get started on our projects and we should almost do a check of everything before we get started.
Great tip, thank you! I have a question though. What if it seems that the housing that holds the bobbin seems to be contacting the outer housing each time there is a rotation, on both directions? I am not sure but this is where I suspect my thumping noise is coming from. Strznge though because I started hearing it louder when I change over to a wee bit thicker thread. Any suggestions? Is my bobbin housing the wrong size for the machine? Other than this problem, it seems to sit in the outer housing fine. Please help?
I bought the needle for elna sewing machine but it that bobbin cotton . Expensive cotton not expensive cotton tried many . Had this machine for a very long time only now it making hell on earth. Help
I have really been burning through needles lately. Hmmm....I'm going to rethink my needles. It didn't dawn on me that the needles could be wrong for the fabric. I would use exclamation points but I'm just too tired.
Great tip BUT I have a singer 4411 brand new(less than 2wks in my possession from singer directly) and it's making a tap sound from the hand wheel area. I swapped out with smaller needle and still doing it. 🤷🤷
Same for me i cleaned out mine too and its still doing that noise!! Ive been looking everywhere but cant find an answer, have you found a solution yet?
I've watched alot of your videos, very helpful. However, I'm still working on the Thump Thump on my Kenmore Embroidery machine and shredding of the thread. Very frustrating, but I'm certain I'll figure it out.
Deborah Barret, I had the same issue (Kenmore with 70 stitches) and I had to remove/clean out bobbin (brushed & vacuumed) and... oil the spots as per manual instructions. It resolved the thumping so maybe, it will help you? Happy sewing :-)
