THUMPER are among the leading lights of Irish post-punk scene, more than punching their weight alongside revered outfits like Fontaines D.C. and The Murder Capital.
A Hot Press 'Hot for 2019' selection, the north Dublin six piece originally defined their musical milieu as "bubblegum psych through a wall of sonic death.” They have been developing their sound - and building an increasingly passionate following - over the intervening two years, through a series of powerful singles.
Lead vocalist and main songwriter Oisín Leahy Furlong has cited Bob Dylan and Neil Young as early influences, along with Nirvana, Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine. Their single ‘Topher Grace’ - an extraordinary 7-minute epic, written in a stream-of-consciousness style, and produced by Dan Fox of Girl Band - was hailed by BBC6 Music, Keraang, Duran Duran and Hot Press alike.
Live, THUMPER are a massive beast. With a line-up of three guitarists, two drummers and a bass, they combine intense poetic lyrics with a big punky sonic assault to startling effect. Their blockbuster performance in the Button Factory, Dublin confirms them as a very special live phenomenon indeed…
