dude. THANK YOU for doing what you're doing!! i am new to most of this and have been flying a grand total of a month. i just bought my 2nd quad and am waiting on it to arrive. the darkmax 220mm. i currently own the furibee x215x pro. ( not the s model.). anyway... the info and the way u present the info is VERY EASY to understand and absorb. i sincerely appreciate what u do. please keep the info coming! i will be binge watching the majority of ure videos in the coming few days.

Nice job and great report. R-Line is our #1 choice at my club and our field experience tends to confirm your elaborate test protocols. I've puffed a few R-Lines racing some F60 Pros full out, before I had connect a current sensor. I look forward to seeing what the Evan Turner "real Life" power cycles look like. Thanks!

So happy to see this video test and in just perfect time! I just saw mines Tattus R-Line 1550 are shipped today and its like doubling my joy, since now I have what to watch and to study while waiting them, and it just fills my sails when I see my newbeeness made a good scan of market before making order for pair of new batteries few days ago.. Amazing test!

Think the weight difference between the batteries would link certain conclusions? As a thunder power user, I enjoy the fact that my packs are lighter than most, helps with keeping current draw lower in races in my experience. Excellent testing Josh!

Awesome work! Appreciate all the time and effort your investing in this. Look forward to watching more results in the future! Funny I just happened to visit one if the Tattu Facilities in Dublin, CA. In the lobby where I was waiting to pickup my order of batteries and things they had a video showing the intensive production of the batteries. It doesn't surprise me at all of the R-Lines results due to the amazing quality control and production of their batteries.

Awesome job Joshua. I loved the thoroughness of your tests in this new methodology. Excellent work. About the only recommendation I would make is that you add the IR of each pack’s cell averages using Wayne Giles IR meter, just for those of us who use that data for pack longevity comparisons. Maybe also the g/watt rating of the pack as well so that weight is factored in too. Excellent work man! Thanks again!
@JoshuaBardwell
@JoshuaBardwell 6 лет назад
I have tested that meter, and found it to produce inconsistent results because it's impossible to control for all the factors that affect IR. I'm not saying the meter is inaccurate. I'm saying the thing the meter is measuring is really hard to hold consistent.

Tattu has so many different types of batteries. Hard to tell what is the chronological order and what is the newest stuff to buy. Some r-line batteries have a 100c rating. I think they are newer than the one you tested. I wish you did an inner-Tattu testing aswell. Keep up the amazing work, sir JB.

I highly suggest factoring weight into the equation. More than C-rating (current/capacity) I (and many racers) care about current/weight, and capacity/weight. It looks like the R-line weights ~20g more, which appears to scale well to it's ~10% higher current ratings and higher capacity. EDIT: I just saw your "Energy Density" line on the word docs, which is interestingly, identical. My interpretation of your (EXCELLENTLY OBTAINED) data, is not that one is a clear winner, but that one simply has more lithium, which gives you a little more capacity, and a bit better current draw ability, at the cost of 20g (and, of course, $$, but that's almost irrelevant to the decision of "which is the best.")
@Desrtfox71
@Desrtfox71 6 лет назад
Same. I think the underlying tech is basically the same, so the weight is the determining factor. It'll be interesting to see if this continues to be the case with more battery testing.
@JoshuaBardwell

@jeffa9429 6 лет назад
If you want to compare energy density you should do it including the weight of the quad. If your pack is half the all up weight a 10% energy increase with 10% more battery weight is actually only a 5% weight increase.

@michelcote
@michelcote 6 лет назад
Often Gens Ace manufacturer is the best. It would be nice to have: 1- Internal resistance. The lower it is, the more punch people feel. 2- Energy available in watt hour or joules at different discharge level, you do almost this by giving capacity/discharge rate but it's not the aera under the curve We appreciate your work. Thanks
@Ammoniummetavanadate
@Ammoniummetavanadate 6 лет назад
Looks good, as long as things stay consistent your tests are good to go. 1C is generally standard for lithium batteries, so excellent there. Going with your own standard is also a great move, this way people won't claim you are wrong because the numbers don't perfectly match those of others.

COULD NOT AGREE MORE!!!! As I've mentioned in other forums, the ThunderPower batteries might be my biggest disappointment yet. Expensive and all 10 that I bought were complete crap and puffing badly. Now on the exact same quad, the Tattu packs are hang'n right in there without a lick of issues. Zero puffing and provide similar flights as ThunderPower but at a much cheaper price.

Excellent! I love to see great testing and your reports are a fantastic way to present the results. Thank you for your time in doing this testing. Could you go to a higher voltage sampling rate for the pulse testing? Having just three pulses for the rating threshold with a slower voltage sampling rate (1x per second?) could easily turn a 3-pulse pack into a 2-pulse or 4-pulse pack at a particular discharge rate. With such a short discharge the file size won’t increase much. Just a thought...

I'll tell you what, without even watching the video, I've had both R-lines and adrenaline's and what I know from first hand use is this: R-line's held up good while they lasted. Provided good sustained power and didn't sag over their life. They lasted about 3 months with moderate usage before puffing, losing voltage quickly, and beginning to get hot while charging. Adrenaline's: still running with no discernable difference in capacity and no noticable sag since I bought them in 2019 (3 years ago), just after the r-lines went bad. They sat for a period of about 10 months while I took a hiatus away from flying after 10 years - some of them fully charged. I have been running them hard for the last month - about 5 packs a day, and they feel like the day I bought them. There is not the slightest hint of puffing in any one of them. It's freaking insane, really... After the last month seeing how they perform at 3 years old, I understand their price and now have absolutely no problem paying for them. I did cringe when I originally bought them. But holy sht are they good batteries. Just did an internal resistance test on a few - not a single one having an IR over 4. It's quite silly actually...

Pretty hard to complain about your test, what you elected to do and how you did it makes as much sense as what anyone else can come up with. The variation in tolerances of SMD components exacerbates the need to calibrate each and every board. We deal with that "problem" in the RF products that my company manufactures every day. A tenth of a pF can throw the product into a tailspin. A tenth the other way and it's sunshine and roses. Don't worry, Joshua, it's an easy assumption to make. :)

Indestructible Quads Black Label lipos should be included in your testing. Good job on this but I think I would focus on the cheaper lipos as many more people tend to buy them and not packs that cost two, almost three times as much for just about the same performance. Just got laughs tho I'd love to see you test one of those MAX AMPS $100 4s 1300mah batteries tho. I can't see anyone ever buying them but I'm just curious if: fact they can possibly be as good as they're marketed to be. BF is not good for Lipo and current testing. I Use an external amp sensor. Charge and warm up. Hover to 16V and make a los punchout to view boarder. A gensace 75C on 200 Amp (6") break down to 12 V. 😅

Awesome video! I kinda think that a straight 5 second burst on pulse testing is too long to be a real world approach on the batteries. I mean who goes flat out for 5 seconds then stops for 5? I think 3-4 seconds would give more realistic results for this aspect of testing. 20-30% reduction. So awesome the tests are coming out tho! Thanks for all ur hard work JB

I would love to see the test with the pilot blackbox data.. But not just a Race Pilot, a FreeStyle pilot too.. Maybe for freestylers carrying the extra weight of a Tattu R-Line isn't needed.....

I've shown it in previous videos... I didn't want to bloat this one too much.

Ok, I'll go look at the previous videos. I will be following your test results with interest soon, today I ordered a frame from aeronautfpv.com to build a 5 incher with an AUW of under 250g (screw you drone weight laws!)
