Hi Nicco, Director of Product Engineer at Thunderbird and fellow Italian. Thank you so much for this wonderful overview. Please feel free to reach out if you need more insights or you just want to chat about all the cool things we're doing in Thunderbird
@@alecaddd that's exactly what it is! All OS and apps have changed the UI like 5 times and Thunderbird is still in the Win98 interface? How many more millions would it take to make it look decently modern? I've tried to use Thunderbird so many times and I end up uninstalling it because it's ugly af. Even Nylas has a better UI by now
since we have you here, are there any plans to support 365 native protocol (not IMAP/pop3) with MFA? This is something that is being constantly asked for years and years and there does not seem to be any interest by the dev team. Thanks. @Nicco, as always a very well done video. I like the background music you added a few months now on your videos
@@jeinnerabdel L take. "Modern" UI design is a cancer. Please stop trying to get people to make the interface of their software less usable and generally worse, thank you
you can tell that he's struggling a bit to speak english, speaking on a slow pace. I assume it's because english isn't his first language, but correct me if I'm wrong.
Great video! I hope this video helps other open source projects, like KDE, raise more funds from their amazing communities. And you did a great job with our names - they're not easy, even for Americans! :D
The only reason I don't use Thunderbird is because I'm a complete mess and I can never be organized. I also hate emails so all my inboxes are a complete dumpster and I hate it every single time when I need to look at it and find anything there.
Thunderbird seems to be in the middle of revolutionary step rather than evolutionary. Idk if this is the right analogy but it feels like when Microsoft move from DOS to NT or Apple move from MacOS9 to MacOSX
I love how visually stunning your videos are, Nicco! Until your videos, I didn't think RU-vid's ambient mode was all *that* impressive - but wow it really pops with your videos and makes the whole page look so cool!
The music volume was not being very friendly. Sometimes competing with voice for space. Maybe - flatten the vocal frequency or lower the volume? Edits are - otherwise - brilliant. Love the meme injection.
As a user of KDE software, I personally wouldn't mind getting a notification about donations every major update. Especially if the action of donation would be quick and easy. Because as also a Windows user, I do mind getting ads in my system integrated apps all the time.
I would have no issues if say the KDE settings app had an easy to see donate button. Not push notifications or anything obtrusive, but an easy to find button that I see whenever I open settings. Maybe something next to the about system page or something.
They just ruined a huge part of it with the new appearance update. I preferred the chunky old block icons, they were easier for me to read and the menu bar above the tab icons.
As much as I love Thunderbird, I find it not to be reliable and not easy to use. I tend to use Evolution. Plus, Evolution has native Microsoft Exchange support.
Sync with thunderbird? What happened to IMAP is that gone? or are they talking, synchronizing the customization settings and having a login profile like with FF.
I am really excited about the release of KDE Plasma 6. The Overview/Workspace management is one of the few things GNOME really does better than KDE Plasma. The new overview coming with Plasma 6 (and other important improvements that have already been presented) makes it so KDE Plasma closes the gap on the few important things that GNOME was better at.
I dont really like Firefox (even Librewolf is missing features I personally use), but I do like Thunderbird. I'm trying to get my sister, who does use Firefox, to also use Thunderbird. Wish me luck! 😅
KDE is a wonderful project. It's just that it's quite niche. People have to use linux and if so, they also have to pick a distro which uses KDE, and then also not opt-in for another desktop enviorement. Thunderbird as a mail client has a lot of benefits from being cross platform and mail is an essential tool (people don't even realise that dekstop enviorement is a sperate part of the OS instead of "being" the OS)
The Mozilla Firefox/Thunderbird developers also want to show too often how big their balls are. After the last major Thunderbird update, Thunderbird takes 30 seconds or longer to fully start. I always have to manually move the inbox to the top. I can no longer find attachments. I can no longer mark spam. The representation of various elements has become huge. What a load of crap. This is not suitable or intended to make things easier for the user. On the contrary.
Dude, massive respect for the glow-up in quality of your recent videos. I'm actually interested in watching them now! So this is what it's like to see a small RU-vid channel get better and better.
Mister sexy KDE man, please make it so there is an actually good onscreen keyboard in Plasma. It's an essential accessibility feature. Why is it easy to toggle to log in but not actually on the desktop?
The amount of money they get make the latest version(s) even more embarrassing. I mean all the new "features" the introduced might have good intentions, but break basic ideas of design features. E.g. tabs are by design only tabs if they are at the edge of the thing. The left side bar leads to a top left x to not be at the top left corner anymore. The customizable top tool bar changes height whether there are buttons in it or not, leading to the fact that the top tool bar changes when you switch "tabs". So apparently none of the new design choices are in any way thought through. And they break the basic idea of the design elements that much that I actually for the first time ever thought about switching Email app.
I like you but unfortunately it sometimes hurts me when I see you struggle with English language. Don't want to demotivate you, but that's limitation. Please forgive me
This video isn't his normal video, normally he uses far more basic vocabulary and does fine. This video is full of very hard to say words together even for a native speaker
I like him nonetheless. I am not native speaker. I know how much I struggle speaking in English and I empathize with him but still hearing him struggling makes me feel bad
