Using my MacBook Pro on my main setup has been fantastic, but there has been one big drawback. Now that I'm back in work, I'm constantly pulling my laptop from the setup and taking it with me, then bringing it back and hooking it all up again. It's quite a process, but a very generous viewer of mine got in touch to send me this wonderful Targus Thunderbolt 2 dock. It's a bit of a beast and does everything I could ever need and more. Richard, thank you so much. This is a really cool gift and it'll make my life a lot easier.

I just ordered a Thunderbolt 3 dock from HyperDrive for my MacBook Pro. They're definitely very handy for desktop-laptop setups so you don't have to unplug so many cables every time you want to take your laptop somewhere. Great to see all of the awesome videos you're putting out!

That dock looks really great! Remember trying out a similar one from elgato when I had a similar setup together with a macbook and screen :D also the convenience of just connecting 1 cord is sooo awesome

If you’re not using the MacBook as an extra monitor , I’d recommend moving it and the stand somewhere off to the side away from everything else (maybe a shelf) and leaving the dock under the monitors and pushing it further back

If your TB port is still being flaky, it could just be dust. My 2015 rMBP was having weird issues with audio passthrough to my monitor. Some compressed air in the port, and it was good to go! Loving the setup!

I am not able to find a Thunderbolt 2 to dual HDMI display dock for my 2014 MacBook Pro. Looks like this connection set is a thing of the past.

This is exactly the type of dock I wish I could get, I have so many stuff plugged into my 2014 Retina MacBook Pro when I use it in desk mode, it’s a real pain to unplug everything every time I need to remove my laptop.

Great video Tom, you should be able to turn on the MacBook from the power button on the dock without having to open the machine.

You can buy one display port cable and the daisy-chain the signal with the DVI cable to the other monitor

I have a USB C dell thunderbolt dock at home and one at work , i can just plug in my latitude 5400 with one cable and get charge and connect to everything else, its so cool. I have see that odd dock strangeness with other thunderbolt docs on mac before with the old belkin ones...not sure why , first time it take a bit of messing to get working but then it will be fine forever... no idea why.

Cool, you can have a thunderbolt 2 - 3 connector and get a thunderbolt 3 accasis external m. 2 hard drive and push those speeds up.

@@Schaelpy it would likely have just killed it. I'd be very surprised if it wasn't a 100-240 as they were a thing even about 15 years before this was made.

I checked that prior to sending it to him - it is multi-voltage. It did run warm when I used it on 110V.

Hi there nice video. I had a 2011 macbook and it had the firewire ports and other good ports, and used to use it with a firewire only audio interface for music production. So I had just recently bought a used late 2013 15" retina display macbook. Great mac but no firewire ports to use it with my firewire audio interface for whenever I am making music. All it has is 2 usb ports, 2thunderbolt ports, an hdmi port, a card slot port and of course the magnetic power port. Is there an adapter I need to purchase so I can use my firewire audio interface. Or do they still make these adapters that is firewire to thunderbolt or firewire to usb? Where can I purchase it?

Can I do a 4+ monitor setup with a MacBook Air with one ThunderBolt 2 port and two USB 3.0 ports? As far as I understand, the TB2 port carries two DP signals so it could handle 2 displays, and the TB2 port also carries PCI-E signals, so in theory it could be solved somehow, but I can't seem to find any dock that allows the use of PCI-E bus in addition to the DP functionality. 🤔

I have a possible working thunderbolt monitor(which will not wake up without a video signal) and no access to an apple product whatsoever. If i used this dock, will I be able to feed video to my thunderbolt monitor from a displayport from my pc via this hub? Any help appreciated on this 👍🏻

Hello sir, I just came across your video. I have a Macbook Pro 2015, and I recently bought the Elgato dock from Amazon. It connects only to one monitor. I tried it with two TV's (that's the only thing available) just to give it a quick shot, but it only displays it on one TV but not the other. I have the HDMI-Mini display (the one that looks like TB2) cable from belkin. I have HDMI cables. I have two TB2 cables from Apple, and tried them interchangeably to see which set of cables can accomplish the dual display on both TV's I have. It ended up on having mirror display with no ability to change the settings, and that's how far I could reach. Do you know if there's any way to solve this problem?

I've been looking for one of these for a while for my MacBook Air 2017, they're nowhere to be found on UK Ebay, and not even from China. That looks like a really solid one aswell. Does anyone know where I could get a TB2 Dock?

Tbh just go with a TB3 Dock as most TB2 ones are discontinued and TB3 is backwards compatible
