Eric was a much better wielder of the hammer than Jane. Firstly he was worthy, repeatedly putting his life on the line for others - Jane has never been worthy (a fact revealed when she was GIVEN immortality by Odin in the Lee-Kirby run and found UNWORTHY). Secondly Eric (as you noted) was humble, Jane is not and even refers to herself as a goddess and PRETENTIOUSLY adopts the speech patterns of the immortals. Thirdly, Eric was (rightly) inexperienced, whereas even though Jane is likewise inexperienced she has been a complete MARY SUE from start to finish with her fighting skill, if anything, (bafflingly) shown superior to Thor himself. Fourthly, Eric went out of his way to tell people he wasn't actually Thor, whereas Jane has (bafflingly again) stolen his name - a clear attempt to emasculate the name and character by the writer. Fifthly, Eric always tried to be a hero, whereas Jane contrastingly always plays the victim - she refused the cancer cure Thor offered, but was happy to steal his name, hammer and identity. Sixthly, Eric attempted to restore Thor, where Jane doesn't seem to care whatsoever.
let's talk about the arrogance of jane to call herself "Thor", none of the other people who have used the hammers have called themselves a god, much less refer to themselves as Thor, they have always respected the true god of thunder and stress that are not the same because they do not want their mistakes are reflected in him, and what does she do? he steals someone else's name and never explains herself, making others think that she is the real Thor.
just found your channel,and I must say it is a damn fine channel.As one of Nordic descent Thor has always been close to my heart,and I have not always liked him marvel treated him especially now the jane Thor is a disgrace,I have never liked how they shared his power out to whomever it seems but eric was a far cut above what jane will will ever be,And I once owned the book you mentioned about her getting the gift of being a goddess bestowed upon her.She was briefly granted immortality and the power of gods, until she failed to pass the tests of courage set by Odin when she showed fear battling the monstrous Unknown. Odin striped her of her new powers and returned her to Earth, with no memory of Thor or her time in Asgard.
I've never heard of Thunderstrike but hearing about him in this video made think very highly of him, he needs way more exposure thats for sure and it's so funny how Magneto literally stops to say "but Thor MAY be better than me"
I started reading comics when Eric Masterson was acting as a stand in Thor. So to me, he was always the Thor that I remembered, at least until the movies came out. I still prefer Eric Masterson Thor, just like I prefer the Merged Hulk (Professor Hulk) from that time period.
Yes, but he lack Thor's natural strength and the proper knowledge of how to use his power, which left him essentially unable to access many of Thor's powers

In all fairness Thor is an actual God compared to those other heroes that are just mortals with powers. Also that’s definitely Magneto comparing himself to a God. But I do like how he respects him still.
No offense magneto fans but thor has multiversal feats and i don't think magneto has better feats than him. Hulk also has great feats but when they are in avengers they are nerfed.
That is because no one is there to hold him back long enough to talk and knock sense to him yet whenever he is not with Avengers which other times he is alone not bothering with Avengers or their tasks which is sometimes best for him to isolate away, most are friends attempting to remind or helped him to overcome his own challenges that him and Bruce Banner go through however it does not always succeed or go according to plan even their help is sometimes not the best for them both just makes things worse He has does a lot of attributes himself including multiversal, outerversal or extra dimensional tier feats he even shakes an infinite number of dimensions.
I loved the Eric Masterson run as Thor. It was a nice short term shake up. I loved the way he beat down Thanos in Infinity Gauntlet. Wasn't the Watcher surprised? Thunderstrike was a great character. The way Hercules and Eric had a friendship was also great. Code Blue was a good addition too.
Eric never learned how to really use the hammer, I never liked him or anyone else that held mjolnir. Thor is a 2000+ year old god, with experience and strength that reflects it, this reduces him to his hammer and anybody who welds gets to be a god, just doesn't match
Thunderstrike is pretty corny I mean it kind of like I don't know f*** it whatever it is what it is you know he had an inferior Thor around for The infinity gauntlet saga in the comics you know
I liked the Unworthy Mini Series, but HATED the ending. I wonder if Jason Aaron wanted Thor to have Ultimate Mjolnir, but changed last minute, because the MCU didn't want potential spoilers
I always preferred the way the hammer used to look - longer handle, smaller head than in the more modern comics. I know that in Norse mythology, Mjolnir did have a short handle, so we're just talking my personal preference here. Wonder what other Thor fans think?

This was insightful. It would seem that when Eric was in character dev. the writers wanted to created another great standalone hero. It would also seem that when Jane was in character dev. that she was born out of a desire to flat out replace Thor. I wonder which of those version of Thor leaving was liked more? I can only guess.. Edit: I do realize Jane existed before her run as Thor, so I mean to say that the character arch chosen for her was born from a desire to replace.
This is a response to some of the comments here and some I've seen other places. Jane is not adopting the speech,it's been imprinted on her. Yes she refers to herself as a goddess but also doesn't like being worshiped either. Her fighting skill is impressive but not because of anything she did,it's the hammer. She isn't just good just to be good,so I don't know if that's still the definition of a Mary Sue. Thor gave her the name but that's not a knock on the character,that is a writer's mistake. And she can't restore Thor,it's all up to him. He isn't the one who believes he's not worthy. I'm not sure why people see Jane as a selfish character. If I remember right,she didn't want to have magic restore her because it always has a price,but I might be confused with another story. But most of all using this power will kill her for sure or completely rewrite her and turn her intto something else. So how is this selfish. I think a lot of fans are getting the writers mistakes wrapped up with the character. Now if fans want to get into how both Jane Foster and Thor's story during all of this has been wasted and a cancer story and worthy story have been pushed asides for constant conflicts and battles, I'll totally jump on that bandwagon.

Never in the history of comics, has someone taken on Thor's name, to the point where he can no longer be called Thor. Born with the fucking name, but she takes it and now he's "Odinson". Did you not see this Mary Sue, going toe to toe with Odin? That is the epitome of a Mary Sue. Regardless of how much power she gained from mjolnir, she had no fighting experience, and even if she did; no karate, kung fu judo crap, is going to contest a Skyfather, billions of years old. If you love this PC garbage, then just say so. Don't try to paint her as a victim, she already paints herself as such.
