Thor Talk is a show all about Marvel's resident God of Thunder: Thor. Here I discuss Thor feats, battles, story arcs, villains, and more. Here you will find videos on the latest Thor comics, the classic Thor comics, and the Thor movies too. It's a show where you behold in grandest wonder the God of Thunder: Mighty Thor.
isnt it ironic that almost everyone in current marvel can/has picked up Thor's hammer - but here you have Arthur (the one worthy to pull the sword from the stone when he was a child) and he is not worthy...lmao....aside from that i like their interaction since this is around the time where Thor would have been highly active on Earth with the Norse and Germanic ppl
There should be one more condition, the wielder must be open minded to or willing to accept the faith in/of the Norse gods. Therefore, with this condition in mind, an unapologetic christian who refuses to yield their faith would also be deemed unworthy.
There’s a good reason why many good natured paragon heroes like Superman, Batman, Spider-Man and Daredevil can never be worthy to lift Mjolnir. One of the conditions of using Mjolnir is that the wielder must be willing to kill the enemy that it’s used against.
Nice channel. This is where i belong. 😅 I guess I havent been getting notifications. Anyway, it's good to be around others who know Thor material. I can pull stuff from his earliest books and story arcs. Which usually gets newbs hating me if I do any debating. lol! I guess it's a lot like debating in favor of Captain America, Pre-Crisis Supes, Silver Surfer, etc. You start pulling out their old feats and newbs go bananas. But, Thor has some of the wildest, off-the-chart showings out there.
Is anyone at modern Marvel paying any attention to continuity?? Thor was younger and still unworthy in the 10th century- but presented here as older and worthy in the 6th century!!?? Almost everything after 2015 Secret Wars has reduced the most expansive and comprehensive lore in storytelling history to unconnected gibberish.
@@RajdeepBhandari-bb6zm as Avengers BC, Krakoan era X-men and most of the Marvel line in the last 10 years have proven- modern Marvel editorial have absolutely no grasp of any Marvel characters established history. It was their job to pick up this glaring continuity error. Decades of carefully structured stories reduced inexplicable contradictions almost every issue. Lee, Kirby and Gruenwald must be rolling in their graves.
@@uxm4life94 dude thor and the asgardians as well as all the gods are BEYOND THE CONCEPT OF SPACETIME ON A MORTAL LEVEL. They can exist in which ever point of time they want, it was LITERALLY present in Lees comics.
Actually, younger Thor was probably praying also. Praying for somebody needing help with monsters, evil gods, demons, aliens, etc. So he could have some fun.
Thor was much younger and unworthy in 10th century Viking age. But presented as much older and worthy in 6th century Camelot era??! Modern Marvel editorial is a bad joke. Decades of lore destroyed in just one incompetent generation.
Actually guys, Thor has been shown to b a lot older than that. Whether its accurate or not, or sticking to a canonical timeline, well, that's another story. But, Marvel Thor has showings that place him in deeper history. And they dont have anything to do with his timetravelling capabilities. Just saying.
@@atilax6452 the last Ragnarok before Marvel ongoing continuity started took place in the year 0000. Modern day Marvel AsgardIans are exactly 2024 years old. Any stories prior to that are a different Ragnarok cycle incarnation
It was great to see Buri again. His first appearance is one of my favorite Thor issues. Hope to see more of him in the future just hanging out with his family in Asgard
Couldn't imagine Kirby, Buscema, Simonson or anyone else drawing Thor mouth agape in shock. A weak expression for weak men in weak times. Not the body language of a warrior god.
LOL these asgardians are nuts. Angela still doesn't fit and is just attitude and silence. She does nothing for the mythos and still feels shoehorned in. Plus she's boring asf, a Xena wannabe with no personality.
The art on this issue is great, however, there’s not much action involved, more dialogue and plot devices. It was nice to see Thor use his wits and not rely on Mjolnir to force matters physically and violently.
Yes the threat of Oblivion Tyr was passed over too quickly. As a type of 'rule', we can look at the number of issues something was hyped-up, and the threat should last at least as long or longer than that. The Tyr/Skinner Box was teased and portrayed in a few issues, so the feeling is the threat and action should last for at least a few issues too. As for Hermod, that was also too quick - but maybe he got away or can be brought back via a rune (if he has one). I guess the rune-trick is potentially something Thor could utilize as well.
Sometimes its good to resolve stuff without dragging it out. There was still impact...they lost Hermod. the whole Tyr thing never felt like a lot to me.(Like why Oblivion was involved anyway) But it's fascinating Thor's conversation with Ullr...so this means the God of Doom is the only other sibling that is elder on BOTH sides! And a full brother, not half asgardian sibling. Very interesting.
@@slickchick5811 That's a good point about Ullr! And I know what you mean about getting things over with - though the flipside to something dragging on is going way to quick. In this case I didn't feel things were dragging, and what Thor Talk was saying being too quick because Hermod and Try were both downplayed. When that happens they feel more like cannon fodder than being anything meaningful. Perhaps the publisher is having things rushed, who knows. As exciting as new characters and prospects are, I wish existing characters received better treatment.
I dont think Oblivion Tyr didn't live to its potential, beause I didn't see it as Tyr who has been introduced to the ways of Oblivion, just Oblivion itself (albeit in a highly nerfed manner). Tyr's body to have easier access to lower realms of existence than Oblivion's own. Tyr's soul/essence wasn't home, so I don't count it as Tyr, and the complete nothing it left behind in his body is probably how Nothing managed to take over his body. So I didn't see it as a fight against a new player/version of Tyr, but merely as a prelude to a probable later fight against Oblivion (Utgard-Demogorge, perhaps?) more directly, one that Thor and friends can't win by brawl, but only by wits, perhaps by turning Oblivion's own game and tricks agains them, like it is implied Thor did to Tiwaz (granted, Buri seems to have let him have that one to teach him this without saying it out loud, only Thor and Buri would fully understand the fine details of the unspoken parts of Buri's lesson).
Started on buying the Thor Omnibus books, completed my Essential Thor run and working on the last of the Epic collections I missed out on Life is great
@@callmestorm23he already fought Atum buddy, Ewing didn't do proper research on that one. Thor literally fought him in the core of the sun, when he needed Atum's help to defeat SET.
I thought the same way about Tyr's seemingly easy defeat. He had proven that with a wave of his hand, he could literally erase a god (of speed, no less) from existence. So why then does some arrows and a barrage of flame prevent him from unleashing another death wave? Speaking of god of speed, I have a sneaking suspicion he will return before Immortal Thor is finished. Somehow. I hope. Oh, and LMAO at that sneak diss to Jason Aaron (should've included Donny Cates, too).
Al Ewing is obviously a good writer, but writing an epic fight sequence is not his strong suit. every single action scene he has wrote in this series is pretty underwhelming to outright boring.
@user-xf8pw6do5i I don't know about that. This run started off in spectacular fashion. Thor's battle against Utgard-Thor, along with Beta Ray Bill and Storm was awesome! The introduction and fight with Roxxon-Thor was hilarious and action-heavy. Even the Utgard-Loki story was very well- done and entertaining, as well as the return of Enchantress and Skurge, and their manipulation of Thor which ended up killing The Minotaur. It's only been this story arc (and the accompanying ill-suited artwork) that this run has taken a dip in quality, for me.
I dont have a problem with Tyr/Tyr's body puppetered by Oblivion getting kept at bay by Sutr's flammes via Lausa. Oblivion caught Hermod off guard, the others were very highly alerted, and Tyr isn't physically all that impressive among his sibblings, just so much Oblivion had to work with.
@louisvictor3473 Hermod was caught off-guard, that's true. Just seems odd that Tyr never had the opportunity to unleash another bolt when faced with (admittedly formidable) flames, and an arrow-slinger, which is more a bad look for Oblivion, as it only required two comparatively lesser gods (one of which is a literal baby) to defeat him.
@@DavidJohnson-td5ic But he wasn't defeated by them, or in combat, just temporarily stalemated. That is ofc not oblivion itself, just a fraction of it, but even so, all they accomplish was stall for time, locking "Tyr" into a defensive position, unable to make a move but also just taking everything while they were getting tired and running out of juice without doing any actual damage. Had Thor take just a little longer to bring the magical instant win card, the five of them would have died.
It's interesting how each Elder God Thor has met has been more respectful and kind to him than the last. Toranos wanted to fight Thor, Utgard Loki wanted to test Thor, Gaea had a (stern) conversation with Thor and here it seems like Tiwaz just wanted to greet his family.
Good observation, though something tells me that the elder gods that went with Utgard-Loki to start the Utgard pantheon are going to break that trend (and Set too if he shows up)
I wanna know does rune of ut-gard odin could defeat oblivion? Does that rune-magic which was gifted by the loki is Above to odins Rune-Magic please explain @@ThorTalk
Oblivion is nothingness and only was able to live within Tyr because a piece of him was taken out. That piece was the rune of his soul aka the rune of Tiwaz. When the rune was returned to Tyr, Tyr was made whole and there was no longer any room for Oblivion reside. It’s less about power and more about the nature of Oblivion. If there’s no emptiness, Oblivion can’t be there
This issue was 40 years in the making... and by Buri's wisdom they delivered 300% of his show-stealing presence !! Thor's agape mouth at realizing that back in 1985 he met his great-grandfather and didn't even find out despite the ocean of clues Buri gave was priceless xD Then Thor went "Fall, great-grandfather !" only for Buri to go *Fall ? Who decided that ?? I decide not to fall*
There had been three Allfathers of Asgard at that point and Tiwaz wasn’t Odin. How Thor didn’t connect the dots… well I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and say his mind was elsewhere
I blame Marvel editors for all of this. Al Ewing has potential to be an Allenmore level type of creative force. He understands the nuances and has transformed the Hulk in a way that could last and have the same impact that Moore head on the swamp thing character If only marvel editors, marvel entertainment, allows it to be Thor, who is my second favorite character to the Hulk, has this level of impact with Al Ewing writing the tale. But I see the exact same problems running to him with this Immortal Thor series that plagued the Immortal Hulk. In that Hulk run, we had a set up where the Devil Hulk with team up with Namor, the Sub Mariner and attack the entire civilized world. That arc was never investigated. Now, with this series, I wish they would’ve kept the original artist on this because he was incredible. Even with that, we have these world ending styles of threats only lasting two issues and without any significant fights. All of these characters of the elder gods should at least last 100 issues to allow for the storytelling to paste itself all the way out. Al Ewing is that great of a writer and who needs to have that level of pacing. I know that Marvel comics in 2024 is it the company that can handle that level of proper comic book storytelling given? Its only mission is to fulfill stockholder value promises it made to investors. It’s things like this that make you wonder if it’s time to allow the comic industry to just wither away and die.
THIS is in essence what I told both THOR TALK and Fernando Comics (along with their audience); don't get overly excited about a coming writer, no matter how talented the writer is, because these writers are EMPLOYEES and have to follow the general dictates of their EMPLOYERS. The writers, all of them, are following the trend of a lower level powered THOR, who is, I hate to say this, a joke as an All-Father, in terms of power (for example, weakening rapidly with a small use of the Odin/THOR power). People who defend this nauseating trend don't really have a knowledge of THOR's history and are probably "Johnny come latelys" with the advent of the MCU.
I don’t know if Marvel has made it canon that Njord is Freyr’s father (he is in the myths, but he’s also Freyja’s brother in the myths), but if so then Freyja would be 1/8 elder god since Buri would be her great-grandfather
What percentage of Elder god is Vidar ? 12.5% from Odin and unknown percentage from Set and Chthon on his Storm Giant mother Gerd"s side. He also a descendent of Surtur.
Bor is his grandfather. Buri is Bor’s father and Thor’s great-grandfather. As for Thor being 5/8 elder god as opposed to half, it might make him stronger or might just be an interesting fact
