Currently using a Vali 2/Modi 3 stack from Schiit, with a custom tube. It's been quite excellent, when used with my pair of HD650

I actually just recently upgraded to the 789 recently as well. I also have the 4xx running with the balanced output you gotta give that a try it works well with 4xx as they really take all the power they can. Look at periapt cables if you're interested totally recommend.

My current amp is the THX 789. I might get the Monolith THX 887 next month to pair with the Topping D90 DAC.

Just got the Monolith THX 887, Lovin' it - don't see any upgrades at all, nada. This is a clear step up from my ADI-2 DAC's amp. A really good product and basically the same as 789. Cheers!

Completely agree with your review. I was just getting into this habit and bought the O2 dac/amp combo but read so much about this amp being so good I decided to go for it and boy wam I happy. It really is like a wire with gain. Everything is super sharply defined,its extremely quick, I just love this amp. I have it matched balanced to my Topping DX7s which I run unbalanced to my flavoured amp, my La Figaro 399 dual mono block for when I want some warmth colour. Kick ass set up.

I appreciate your review and I just picked one up. I am really enjoying it! I am using it with my LCD-X along with my Chord Hugo TT and interestingly it sounds best on the 1st gain position.

Currently using a Geshelli Labs Archel. Nice little amp made by a guy in Florida in his garage. Saw a Z-Review on it a picked it up. I also want a tube amp for a warmer different sound.

Been a minute since you did an audio review. Using a Monolith Liquid Spark amp with a SMSL M100 DAC. That's what my budget allows right now and it's a pretty good combo for my small headphone collection.

Wow, really convicting. I am thinking of upgrading my Schiit Magni 3 Heresy, but the point is: even with today's $299 price tag, plus DAC, I will spend more than my headphone, which is Hifiman Sundara.

Your review is spot on. I own it and agree that there is no need to spend more money, it sounds great with all my phones, hifiman he 500, sennheiser hd 600 and focal clear. Thanks for mentioning build quality and switch feel.

I'm using SMSL SP200 right now, it's using the thx 888 chip and has pretty much the same performance as the 789 for $290. But the massdrop 789 does have better build quality and actual low gain for iems.

I'm/was interested on this THX 887 because other reviews. I want a "not-colored" amplifier. One that sounds "pure". It doesn't need to be balanced if it is better and for now as budget is a problem during a pandemic I will put the amplifier connected to a Focusrite Solo Gen3 with line cables to xlr which I already have. They will drive my upcoming Ollo S4X, Monolith M1060, Sony MDR XB700 and Bose QC25 but for most the first two. Do you guys have any recommendations?

My topping a30 has an issue with the 1/4" jack. I have to fiddle with it to get it to play audio in the left channel. I think it's time to upgrade. I'm thinking of getting the monoprice 887(can get it for 340ish shipped). The sp200 is cheaper but also has a lot fewer connections in back. Could also. Get the thx aaa monoprice dac /amp combo but I kind of want to upgrade my amp and then dac soon too. My topping d30 may not be a fair match for the thx amps but it would work for now. Also wondering if the next iteration of thx aaa tech will release soon. Should probably just buy something now I guess.

do you guys think this will be a good amp/dac for gaming, ofc music as well, but mainly gaming. im gonna get the DT 990 edition 600 ohm headphones, if you guys have any cheaper options or better options please write (:

You can't go won't with the this amp. It has all the power you need, especially for the 600 ohm 990s.

Try the Samson S-Amp. It can do 600ohm headphones. Four headphone outs for around $30-$50!

@@DetroitTech What output on the Scarlett are you using to connect to the 789 and what are your settings on the Scarlett? I'm a noob so forgive me if these are stupid questions. I just bought a pair of HD650s and will be using this set up to connect to my PC.

I'm using the RCA output in the Scarlett. It's fucked away so I can't find which ones exactly. No real settings to use. I just have the Viking on the Scarlett up all the way so I have complete control from the headphone amp.

Spend 2 grand on a amp to compare it to and make sure that it really out performs it. Also make a review on it. Haha. Good review I too dislike cheap buttons. I think it is one of the main reason I like older high-end audio stuff. It's built like a tank to the point that even push button switches are metal with a solid feel when pressed. Nice review and video. Keep it up.
