I am considering composing the full symphonic version of this glorious hymn. However it takes a lot of time and a lot of effort by me to compose such compositions of this magnitude. This is why i am asking for people to donate any amount they can, so that i will be able to achieve such a feat. This arrangement certainly sounds like a triumphant and victorious anthem. So many times in the church it is unfortunately chanted more like a funeral dirge.

Until the first millennium the island of Sardinia was Byzantine and this was its anthem. The lyrics of this hymn (and perhaps the music too?) go back to the Thanksgiving Mass performed in Haghia Sophia in 627 AD under Emperor Herakleios, having successfully defeated the Persian Empire and begun a restoration of the Roman Empire (probably makes it one of the oldest pieces of church music with an unbroken tradition behind it, down to the present).

Kind of. National anthems weren't a thing back then, but in the Christian Roman Empire, this Orthodox Church hymn was a sort of anthem for the City (Constantinople) because the Theotokos (Mother of God/Virgin Mary) was its protector against many attacks. You can see as much if you look up a translation of the Greek.

What do you mean?¿Modern greeks are what these people made them to be as they gave birth to modern Greece.And the Byzantines were Romans even when Rome was the capital and Caracalla was the emperor.Do you know what languages were spoken back then?Well only one survived today to tell you who has relation to whom.
