Footage of Harry Walton Steam Testing his Tich boiler before assembly onto under carriage.
Tich was made from various scrap material by my late father-in-law.
Main Frames - Two pieces of scrap sheet steel.
Frame Stretcher - Scrap cover from a small transformer
Boiler - Two Nuswift fire extinguishers, one had a damaged thread and one lying in the gutter in Brookwood Drive Meir Stoke-on-Trent.
Stainless Steel - For safety valve lever, regulator handle etc. salvaged from a scrap flame trap from the exhaust of an underground diesel locomotive.
Cylinders - From 2nd round cast bronze bar salvaged from 28th Armoured Brigade REME workshops when I was loaned to them in the Royal Signals.
Cast Iron - From brake blocks , fire crate and car discs.
Dome - Flat brass sheet, three pieces silver soldered together.
Buffer Beam Angle - discarded road warning sign which met with an accident.
All boiler fittings made by father-in-law , i.e. union nuts from round brass bar and milled to hexagon.
The video shows Tich testing later it was completed but never painted.
Hope you find this detail interesting
