I know Lin said they cut it because it killed the flow of things, but it does so much to further establish not only their desire for one another, but the chemistry between both the characters and the actors. It's honestly so well done I wish they could have kept it in.
Same thoughts. I didn't feel their desire much in the film, but this would have set the tone. It did feel out of place based on how it turned out though.
What I actually love about this direction and choreo is that it’s dorky and playful and not like the characters suddenly slip into ultra-sexual, sultry versions of themselves. It’s so true of a loving and established relationship, you understand that they genuinely like each other and are each other’s friend as well as lover. Plus the complete focus they have on each other, not themselves. Such a good interpretation and thank God it was released as a deleted scene so we can see it!
This is fun and I'm glad it exists, but it's good that it's not in the movie. I think the impact of her not singing until "Come to Your Senses" is really effective in the movie, and her voice here plus the allusions to that song in the arrangement of this one would have taken away from that. It's also norm-breaking; in the final film, he has Karessa being Susan's voice until CTYS, where it's like he really "sees" Susan herself for the first time instead of his idea of her in Karessa, and this goes against all of that. If it was more like "Therapy" or something, it maaaaybe would have worked, but probably would have been a bit repetative or confusing in some way.
Yeah I see why is was cut because it doesn’t contribute to the plot even if it’s fun (and, well… hot af). We got to see it so it’s all good! I think it was better this way
This song just hits different than most of the love songs out there. I think it's the fact that they sing it TOGETHER, you know? It's not just the man swirling the girl around and appreciating her. It's her that's wearing the green dress and yet they're both vibing with it together! She's feeling sexy in it just as much as he's finding her sexy, it goes both ways and they're both just in this moment. A rare treasure, this song
I’m so grateful we got this as a deleted scene if we couldn’t have it in the actual movie. I’m slightly devastated that it was cut because Alex and Andrew are both spectacular in it and we really get to see their desire for each other in such a fun way. Their chemistry is fantastic throughout the whole film, but them having this duet and this moment to just shut everyone and everything else out and focus on each other… it’s a great contrast to the rest of the film where there’s seemingly never enough time for them to just be with each other and prioritize their relationship. Also, they completely nailed this choreography. Wow.
@@anita_daphne_ it's after the party in "boho days". the jacket she wears in this scene is the same as the one she wears in "boho days" and lin-manuel miranda confirmed that the jacket is covering up this green dress.
Love this scene but definitely agree it with it being cut. I think the movie flows perfectly as it is, and I like the fast transition in the movie from the roof to them hooking up to Michael hearing them and being annoyed.
I honestly kept imagining this song play out just hoping that they released a version where they recorded during singing the track or so. I am so glad this exists. The amount of trust they had in each other for the entire sequence was so good plus it really did establish how much they loved and desired each other. This is something I know I'll be returning to multiple times to just feel good
Can we give Alexandra Shipp the appreciation she deserves? She's such a talented actress, her voice is so beautiful, I first saw her in "Love, Simon."💗
This is so good. The way Andrew moves is something... he is aware of and in control of every cell of his body. It's genius. I am glad this scene is not in the movie and I am glad we have it here
Sexiest choreography ever. It perfectly shows how well established as couple they were, and how comfortable they felt with each other (as we know, they had underlying issues, but they loved each other greatly).
After watching this, I agree it’s better that it was cut from the film. Though this scene alone is actually good. The full song and choreo are great! I thought first that the full song was only a bonus gift on the soundtrack for fans.
This is a perfect deleted scene. Fun to watch and well made, but doesn't belong in the film. Cutting it was the right choice, and releasing it as a deleted scene means we get to enjoy the song and the choreography and a little extra bit of the actors in these roles.
Interesting how they have those bits of "Come To Your Senses" mixed in. I've always found this song so cute, and it works great in the stage show, but I understand why it wasn't included in the movie.
Oh my gosh this was even better than I imagined!!!! The choreography, the attitude, the chemistry, I’m so in love!!!! I totally get and respect why they cut this, but it would have been a CRIME not to release this as a deleted scene!! I love this so much!!
Love how his suspenders keep going on and off (starting around 1:26). I know it’s probably because the scene wasn’t in the film and they therefore didn’t had to make it like perfect-perfect. Buuuut this movie is a MASTERPIECE and little mistakes like that prove that it was made by humans and not some superhuman species! Because to be fair - this movie is so freaking good that it wouldn’t be surprising if the whole team and cast were superhuman.
Garfield’s coat throw/thwip at the beginning is how I’m going to put jackets on from here forward. So it is decided, so it is written. Looove this number-thank you for such a gift. I wish they would release an extended version with this scene in the movie. Garfield’s dance hand movements bring my soul such joy.
100% the inclusion of this scene makes the film stronger. Establishes the desire between the two. Excellent choreography. The song is a great energy filled tune. Extended version of this film puts it in my top 50 ever imo
I've been WAITING for this. It was absolutely the right move to cut it from the movie but also the RIGHT move to have it recorded for posterity. One of my favorites on the album...
I LOVE THEIR VOICES IN THIS! I feel like Andrew's voice definitely fits musical theater, same with Alex's. This sort of music doesn't really fit the film, but outside of it, definitely a good song. Also the CHOREO! Oh my goodness, so glad that they released this to the public.I've always liked this song, so I'm glad that they did this. Definitely didn't fit into the movie, though. So I'm happy with their decision :)
Although I adore this song, I’m glad they took the approach that they did. This would’ve been one of the cheesy “break out into song like any normal movie musical” but the scene they chose helped them keep their neutral approach which makes it more enjoyable for somebody who wouldn’t traditionally watch a movie musical to see. I’m so glad they released this scene though
I can't help but think that this scene alone would have cemented Andrew's OSCAR chances. And to think this is not even a finished scene... Alex is so great & so much fun too. Mindblowingly amazing scene. So happy they shared it with us. :) ❤️
omg! This is amazing! The choreography the singing, everything is top notch! But, I really see why they deleted it even it raises the chemistry between the characters so much more. Lin made the right choice.
ANDREW GARFIELD IS ONE OF THE GREATEST ACTORS OF ALL TIME; HE DESERVES THE OSCAR FOR BEST LEAD ACTOR! HE PLAYED JON WITH ALL HIS HEART AND SOUL, AND DESERVES IT!
i got super excited when i heard they were going to release this song, because it's such a fun song and i just wanted more happy-couple scenes with alexandra and andrew because their chemistry was so great, but this delivered in a much bigger way than i was anticipating. like holy crap, the choreo???? TOO CUTE. lookit these nerds!!! anyway, I definitely don't get why LMM cut it, although i guess we didn't need a reason to cry even harder at the end, so that was... thoughtful of him, hah.
THIS IS SUCH A CUTE SONG WITH SUCH A CUTE CHOREO. I'M SO SAD IT'S A DELETED SCENE, BUT I'M SO GLAD I GET TO SEE IT!! It definitely changes the vibe from just listening to the song XD
I really would have liked if they kept this scene, even though I understand it doesn't fit in the bigger picture, but the moment is *chefs kiss*. It shows the chemistry and understanding these two people had for one another and how much they wanted each other. It pictures a fun, consensual and familiar, intimate interaction while also taking the pressure off of the fact of having sex. Plus, I think it is very important that it teases Come to your Senses but in a kind of ethereal vibe, not the more dramatic and nostalgic one it has in the end.
That made my day!! OMG that choreography is insanely beautiful and humorous! I mean the chemistry between Andrew and Alex! My mind was exploded!! Thanks for showing it! Would be so gutted without watching it!!🍀🍀🍀💚💚💚
I’m fully convinced that if this scene was in the final cut, Andrew would have won the Academy Award for Best Actor. Alexandra Shipp is absolutely incredibly in this scene as well. I watch this video at least several times a week - it brings me joy 🥰
I'm glad they kept the song in the official soundtrack. Green Green Dress is one of my favourites. I do enjoy the hints to Come to Your Senses, but it doesn't have the same tone to the rest of the film. I agree with it not being in the film, and so I think this is a great outcome and we still get to enjoy the song.
Oh my these two are HOT! Garfield and Shipp have AMAZING CHEMISTRY!!!! The song is fun and playful and busting out all over with desire! It's a wonderfully choreographed. So well done. Wow. I do like that it reveals the part of Jonathan and Susan's relationship that we otherwise never see in the film, that they actually like and love each other. Totally understand why it was cut, but glad this missing scene was release and didn't stay on the cutting room floor. I've already watched it 15 times!!!! Perfection! The song does sound a wee bit 'canned'. Assuming that they would have either done this live, or re-recorded it. But so glad we get to enjoy it anyway.
This is my favorite song and was so happy when I saw the green dress, ready to sing the song only to see that they got rid of it 😭 I ‘m glad that this clip exists
To still have the flow of the conversation they have instead of this song, as well as keeping this song, perhaps they could've instead of panning away, have some close up shots of then almost kissing while gently singing the last of the lyrics while inches apart. After the song have a little cut to Micheal rolling his eyes or something and putting music in, then cut to the scene that's in the film of them kissing and having that conversation about her job. I reckon that would allow things to flow and still add the song in
Such a shame this scene was cut. The melody and rythmn are so evocative of Jonathan Larson and the movement and balletic choreography are perfectly suited to the characters and the moment.
