Watched the movie tonight, already for the third time, in honor of Jonathan's birthday. After 1st, 2nd, and 3rd watches, nothing has changed, I still claim that Andrew's performance is the most outstanding from what I've ever witnessed. To dissolve seamlessly into the character and act in every scene as if possessed by him...Not to mention the skills needed for singing, playing the piano, and swimming...I've never seen anything like it on screen before.

This movie is the prime example of why only a select number of people can direct a proper movie musical. And also why you need musical theater eyes on a movie musical. To take this question non-rhetorically, it was due to permitting issues. This song, along with Jonathan's other unreleased works, is archived in the Library of Congress. Lin had to get special permission in order to put a segment of the song in the movie, but he did not have the permission to record the full song for purchase with the soundtrack.
