Tagging calves before they head off for grazing and the digger has made some awesome improvements on the farm!

Hey I’m Andrew The Once A Day Farmer, I farm alongside my father on my family dairy farm in New Zealand.
Our Dairy system is quite unique as we only milk our 320 jersey cows Once A Day (hence the name), and they stay outside on grass for 365 days of the year!!

Always interesting to see people tagging procedures. We tag with heifer tag in the paddock when collecting calves then nait tag at 2-3 days old.

Awesome video as always my friend. Beautiful sky to wake up to, what’s the temperature at the moment. Machine man Phil is doing a cracking bit of work, say hello from me, as I’m also a 360% operator so I no a good operator when I see one. Fantastic drone footage of your paddocks, looks awesome mate. Looking very different around your house now it’s been levelled up, can’t wait to see it when it’s topsoiled up. And I think your right, rip up that last piece of concrete, it’ll look better as a garden, tell your wife i said so. Thanks for sharing mate.

Thanks Steve! It gets to around 18-20 degrees in the day and is cooling down at night now to single figures around the 3-6 degrees. Unfortunately I had to leave the concrete but one day it will come out for sure and Phill is one of the best around 👍

Your Cattle look really well. Do you have friesian Cattle in New Zealand too?

Thanks! Yes we have a lot of Friesians, the most popular cow breed in NZ would be the Kiwi cross I think (mix between jersey and friesians)

What product do you use to spray out weeds in the paddocks so not to kill the grass and clover ?

We use Baton, but there’s a guy at farm source in town called John, if you have any questions regarding spraying ask him, he used to be a spraying contractor and knows his stuff!👍 I ask him stuff all the time 😂

Can’t fit all the cows on the feed pad together unfortunately and it’s in the wrong spot, it’s not close to the milking shed so only one herd goes on it

No worries that’s all good, that’s sort of thought you meant. They are on milk for about 3-4 months and get hay, meal and grass as well, then once there weaned they get grass and maize 👍
