You are quite the young lady. A true farmer. Not intimidated to get your hands dirty with anything. I and lots of others who follow you admire you. Thank You. 😊
I highly recommend nitril gloves for milking and jobs like fixing the gutter cleaner. My wife and I milked cows in a parlor and she did most of the prepping and clean up. Her hands cracked and got very sore. Someone told us about the nitril gloves and we loved them for milking and nasty jobs.
Great story Brent about looking out the window. I know you are much smarter and have more common sense than most graduates today who wouldn't know how to change a light bulb. Thanks for sharing and teaching Taylor all you know because I love milk and know where it comes from.
I spent a short time as a us driver. But that was only until I had to unplug the drain on the onboard toilet. I have nothing but admiration for how you face you tasks. But Brent seems like a great person to work for, too.
Another great viedeo that reminds me on our old barncleaning system. It was a pushrod manure removal system and it frequently broke down and then we had to shovel out the manure by hand until the system was repaired. 💦
You and Brent are hard workers. I was a kid that looked out the windows, also would go to use the bathroom and go outside to play instead of going back to class. A few years back when the price of metal was up the barn chain was hauled to the scrap metal yard, in the old barn I had worked in as a kid. It was not the same type as yours but it was over 200 feet long. Hope you all are staying safe and healthy.
Boy! You both were in it up to your elbows today! 💩 🐄💩 🐮 Taylor, have you ever made a complete video of the milk truck picking up? I don’t recall seeing one from you? Thanks so much and have a great Sunday, Taylor! 🏍🇺🇸🎒
Good morning Taylor. If you are going to be a farmer it is expected that you will get your hands dirty. On a large farm a cow with udder problems would be gotten rid of but on your farm you take the time to care for them. And that’s a good thing. Thanks again for another informative video. Keep smiling, keep farming, and stay positive.🚜🇺🇸🐄😉
Hi! Yup, I always say if ya got clean hands on a farm then you’re not working! ☺️ I could never work on a large farm because of that very reason. I get so invested in a cow that it’s hard for me ever give up on them, if we do it is slightly comforting to know that you did all you could for them. Thank you so much for watching as always, hope you have a wonderful upcoming week!!
Hi Taylor and Brent. Another great video. For the milk truck. It’s a rubber or stainless steel impeller in a pump housing that turns fast by an electric motor that creates like a vacuum that sucks the milk out of the tank into the milk truck tanker. The butter fat from the milk keeps the rubber impeller lubricated. Hope that helps explain things. 😊 Keep up the great videos. I enjoy watching you guy’s work together as a team. Always enjoy listening to Brents saying’s or expressions. To funny. Have a beautiful Sunday.
Thanks for another awesome video!! I admire the fact that you jump right into the thick of projects and get your hands dirty!! I'm happy to see that your injured cow is healing! Wow...that's some expensive chain!!
Good job again Taylor like usual, glad you got your cleaner working saves you alot of scooping. Your calves sure look good should make some really nice dairy beef to finish out. Take care and be safe !!!!! Stan. Ia. 70 degrees here on Monday warm weather coming for you. Some fld work going on here and manure hauling.
The barn/gutter cleaners are a pain but a lifesaver at the same time. Regular maintenance/tension, keeping the corners cleaned an greased make a huge difference ❤😊 happy farming
In looking at the chain it is clear it needs to be replaced. Worked with Patz barn cleaners for 18 years and when the chain gets that worn out you have constant problems.
That was me in school, Looking out the window wishing I was home doing farm stuff! That's how you tell if a coffee cup has a crack, or any other China, you ping it, if it just goes thud, it has a crack, if it's good , it'll ping!
FYI When pouring a 5 gallon bucket the contents leave the vessel faster and more accurately if the opening is on the top of the pour not the bottom this allows air in easier. Try it you will see.
Tay I gotta tell you we just went and bit the bullet last summer we were constantly babysitting and reapiring our old gutter cleaner. We went to our local Patz dealer and they were able to get us one that was used for 2 years and was laying in the grass for 15 years but it was basically brand new. The best investment is in the things you guys will be using more than once a day everyday. I plan on uploading a video of the new cleaner when I have it painted up later this spring. Best of luck.
What a great video. I remember when my uncle finally put one in our barn. His barn wasn't near as long as yours and had a wider, gap from side to side. So we didn't have much of a chain. That thing worked beautiful. Saved a lot of manual labor. We used to hand shovel and scrape the manure into a wheelbarrow and then run it up a little ramp to the spreader. Hard work and took a lot of time. That was one ugly udder. But glad it is starting to heal. Have a wonderful day, say hello to everyone and God Bless.
There's also the vac trucks used on lanes, nobody really makes them small tho there are attachment units for slurry tankers to do it but you have to add water in. Small landmoving pans work fairly well for scraping lanes but those are a hassle to get into the spreader after and you can't really pile up with them. Once saw a guy weld paddles onto a rock collector and use it for lane clearing. In the end the paddle-chain system ends up being the least disturbance and often the cheapest system.... it literally runs on worn metal.
Good Sunday morning Taylor and Brent just finished watching video very interesting work on chains looking 👀 like hard work but you done it plus you don’t mind getting your hands dirty and as always you and Brent be safe 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks for another awesome video Taylor, no-one can say that you don't get your hands dirty. Let's hope rearranging the chain ⛓️ will sort the problem for a bit. Thanks again take care and stay safe 👍 😊.
THNK YOU...for takng the time to record what we sometime wish we could do...as I watch utubers who do "farming " of diffent types I really come to the realization that milking is something I can forsee me doing...not bcuz its me..but it's all about the circle...crowng corn/silage, feeding the cows, milking cows, and takng their manure to feed the soil that feeds the corn/silage. My future inlaws are now cows for meat and their daughtr talkd about the realization of to..raise, buy, and replenish them to keep the breading clean. Whereas as milking meat is not the "goal" but "milk&breading". Thnks. I also watch 10gendairy, geirockfarms, trinitydairy, and most recently pedvand in ND and im amazed how each gets same outcome by diffrnt means. God Bless
Taylor, one farm I make hay on quit milking ten years ago and has a Patz gutter cleaner that I can get all the parts from, get me a series/part no./dimensions so I can check it. I'm in East central Ohio.
Really funny "Throw in the Towel" !!!!! When I was a kid on my uncles farm a 20 stantion. A bucket on a rail hand shovel the manure into it. Push the bucket outside trip it and the manure would fly all over. Hope Brent can find a good price on replacing the chain.
Taylor ,,in the plumbing department there is a tool for stretching pex water pipe ,,just like a battery powered drill it inserts in to any pipe and stretches it by the pull of the trigger very fast and very easy ,,get you one of those for changing the new hose.
Theyy do work nice from what i have seen. First though, I would probably try putting the hose ends in hot water for a couple of minutes to see how well tht works.
Great video Tay 😊 It’s always something when farming isn’t it.🤦♂️ the fresh cows look good and calves as well. Hopefully you can find barn cleaner chain in good shape to replace that one. 🤗
Tay! I marvel at your fortitude! Watched episode where you're bent over cleanig a cow's teats & all of a sudden the cow behind started urinating & then pooping! It didn't faze you! You're a real star, little lady. I'a a man & I think would've suddenly it'd distract make me jump up and run for cover! Keep up the good work, my dear!
Grungy hands and clothes go along with farming. Not an occupation for anyone afraid of getting dirty. You dive right in and get unpleasant jobs done. Glad to see the attention given to individual animals with issues...they respond to careful handling and a calm demeanor!!!
Fram’s fluids are made by Amalie which is a good product. The hydraulic fluid’s color is naturally clear and it changes color and darkens as it picks up contaminants which become suspended in the fluid.
The dairy operations near us in Northern Vermont are huge. Conditions for the cows and the environment should be an embarrassment for the owners and the community. I was milking cows with my grandpa in the 50s and cared for my own animals for many years. These conditions have me rethinking my consumer choices. Thanks for showing folks that there is a humane way to produce dairy products.
Hey like your videos. But I just have to tell about some safety things I see.when someone is holding down the flites or in that room were the motor is there should be someone with there hand on the switch if he would passport or fall in that chain it would not stop you need to stay right there with your hand on the switch or move the switch to were he could shut it off or better yet he should have a dead man switch.
Good morning Taylor ! First of all I want to say that I really love your videos and the way you farm because I love cows❤. Seeing Spice I think she has kind of a 'round' back as we say here, did you already give her a magnet? Maybe she has a piece of metal in her rumen. Greetings from Germany and keep on farming 🐄🐄🐄😊
To make the hoses more flexable, try using a heat gun. It might be more handier than hot water. I got mine at a hobby shop for making the wing covering tight on model aircraft. Im sure that amazon might have them too. Also there are no end uses for a heat gun, especially in the winter. Jer
One day these problems are going to be all yours, so it's good that you are learning to solve them now. Are the links and flights forged? Could you weld them back together? After you warm up that tubing and just before you try to slide it on to the connectors try dipping the end of the tubing into isopropyl alcohol. It should make it slide on easily. And it evaporates quickly so it won't slide off. Hope it works for you, cheers.
Just a thought... there are a lot of old dairies that are no longer dairies in Ny, Wisconsin and Minnesota... Hopefully you can find some newer chain...
Hi ifyou're not sure about the oil,put a little in a cup and see what it mixes with oil with oil but not water with oil, cant always trust what a can says
As someone who shoveled gutters out, price of a new chain is nothing when you got to do that with a shovel daily. Its nice to see people getting their hands dirty and not trying to be doctors with nitril gloves on, those things drive me nuts, my neighbors always wore them, my dad said they should have been proctologists and not dairymen. They usually were torn by the time they finished milking so what exactly was the point? I guess that is what the cool kids do............I rather get dirty and use hot water and dawn to solve the problem.
Must be lots of patz chain in the US? I know lots here in Canada! Give a shout out. Might b closer than u think! We bought 100 feet of new painted chain then we stopped milking cows lol good luck
Hii Taylor .the best with the swolen teat is .that you cut it of . Mostly ist the dash channel from the teat hurt .the milk comes not out .germs come into the udder quater and it ignites . In that case is it better early .when a teat is damaged .to cut it 2cm under the udder quater off . The milk came then at least out the udder quater .but yes the quater ignites than too .but not so hard an it drys better back . A cow can also give many milk with 3 teats . Best greetings from East Frisia in North West Germany from Bert !! East Frisia is the county .were holsteins cows first time were bred ass a race . We describe since centuries as Black-white cow . The name "Holsteins" for this race originates incorrectly from USA and Canada . Best greetings !!
If you cut a breather hole in the lid of the oil bucket, it wont glug so much, might be easier to use... Just a thought... I usually use a fixed blade to stab in and open up about 1/4" hole on the opposite side of the cap when i know im going to use a whole bucket... Ok, color me curious, and sorry if youve answered this before, but those flights look like mild steel angle iron available at basically any hardware store USA, i know you've got a welder... With my wire feed id run about 22 volts with a 140 wire speed and weld up that crack and take my time, and id give a shot to similar settings with welding angle iron to links and make some flights if you have decent links to spare. Try it on a screwed up one first... They call em a hot glue gun for a reason lol. Have you guys had that thought?
It gets dangerous trying to keep wore out chain going. Too bad Maine is so far away from Pound Wisconsin. Shipping probably be nightmare on a couple gaylords of chain. Most used chain is in same shape as yours. New is high and farms on way out ran theirs till shot then sold cows. Stay safe
Brent's comment about he should have paid closer attention in school is funny, but anyone that has farmed, been around farming, or cares about farming knows that to stay in farming, you can't be stupid, less intelligent, or uninformed. There are worse things to have your hands in than cow $hit. Like not having anything to put your hands in! You said you were spending a lot of time in the motor room (not sure what you called it). Kind of a "Tay's Timeout".🤠 Very interesting what you did with the chain! See, you can't be uneducated and figure out how to extend the life of the gutter cleaner!! Keep up the great work Brent!! Of course you too Taylor!!!
ive seen gutter chain so worn those oval pads on flites completely gone but that farm 88 stall barn torched all the flites half length he said it's the original chain from 1979. until you win lottery loosen motor drive belts just enough but no more
You would be better off calling the concrete truck and filling in that gutter and cleaning everything with the skid loader . I was born on a dairy farm and spent the first 18 years of my life there and never had to get cow waste on my hands or clime in waste deep in cow sh** . You guys must like it cause you sure spend a LOT of time there !
