Tie the 'Windsor' knot

The Windsor knot, also (wrongly) known as the "Double-Windsor" (a non-existing enormous 16-move knot), is the most well known knot in the world.
The Windsor is a large, symmetrical, self-releasing triangular knot. The tie was named by Americans in the 1920-30's after the Duke of Windsor. The Duke was known for his fondness of large triangular tie knots, but didn't in fact invent this particular knot. His secret was a specially tailored tie with an extra thickness of material.
There are four tie-versions that result in the "Windsor" knot; two self releasing, and two non-self releasing. This version filmed here is considered as the original (self releasing) version.
The video is to be viewed as if you were looking in a mirror.

I saw so many unhelpful videos with prolonged instructions when all I wanted was a silent video from point A to point B where i could repeat whatever parts i was doing wrong. This video was better than the 10 or so vids I went through. Thank you so much

These are the best tie knot videos on RU-vid. No confusing talking, no bullshit, just someone tying a fucking knot slowly and step by step. Easy.

Smart. Cavendish makes the exact same asymmetrical knot triangle as Four in Hand, only bigger. Asymmetrical knots are actually quite cool, especially if they are slightly exaggerated.

Thank you very much for the video.... It is good... it is clear and slow enough to grasp the tricky parts. And I think whoever posts any thing on RU-vid to help people out deserves a thank you minimum... I think it is kinda lame and off taste to post negative comments on something meant for helping others!

Pretty nice; I never knew how to tie a Windsor, and some written instructions with some rough diagrams didn't really cut it. After a few tries (knot too big, too lose, too sloppy, etc), I finally have it down! It just takes some practice to get the motions down; a lot simpler than I imagined.

The knot is often thought to be named after the Duke of Windsor (King Edward VIII before his abdication). It is, however, named after his grandfather Edward VII. The Duke preferred a wide knot and had his ties specially made with thicker cloth & linings in order to produce a wider knot when tied with the conventional four-in-hand knot.
