Some good choices there lads. Going by both of your picks, I'm guessing you's might like the sound of "Molly Half Dead." Good to hear The Chameleons getting a mention. Any chance of a "Top 5 Liverpool bands?"
The Chameleons - definitely one of the most criminally underrated bands. What Does Anything Mean, Basically? for me stands as their high point. Dave Fielding had a guitar sound like no other. Magazine - post punk/new wave? i hear elements of prog especially on their best album imo 'Secondhand Daylight. Love The Smiths, and Morrissey since the split has earned even more respect from me with the insight and courage to speak his mind on the state of the nation.
Spot on about the Chameleons. In my opinion the reason they didn't make it really big is that they emerged in Manchester at about the time Factory were dominating the Manchester music scene, but they weren't on Factory. Still going and usually do a concert in December in Manchester.
One thing the bf and I can agree on is that Blue Monday completely blew our minds when it came out and he was a huge Joy Division fan. That says a lot. Although I was never a fan of theirs I am still amazed by how they transformed into New Order. Two unbelievably talented and opposite sounding bands. Nice Black Flag flyer. 😊
Closer, that final Joy Division album, is an album that hits the nerve. The whole album, not just side 2. As someone who has lived with mental health issues all my life, it speaks to me and I'm sure that I'm far from the only one to say that. The Smiths I got into later on and could connect with them, though Morrissey has been a let down since. Agreed that The Stone Roses album is fantastic, but what about Second Coming? I don't have an issue with that release, other than it should have been put out a lot earlier and not compete with Oasis, Blur etc.
I was just listening to The Fall Totale's Turns last night. Brilliant band. Also been reading Henry Rollins’ most recent book and he goes on and on and on about The Fall and for good reason.
@@thomasandersen6719 Thanks for the reply but I was just joking!! Everybody knows 'The Smiths' are by far the best band to, not only come out of Manchester, but to come out period!!
Bolton is Manchester. Greater Manchester is Manchester/stockport/oldham/tameside/wigan/bolton/bury/rochdale/salford and trafford. Just like to you lot Liverpool includes all Merseyside. To Manchester it includes all greater Manchester area
