WWE's Royal Rumble might just be the most beloved wrestling PPV event on the calendar, and with the 2021 Royal Rumble fresh in our minds, it's time to take a look at some of the most surprising entrants to grace the hallowed match.
From the dramatic return of Edge in 2020, to the predebut of NXT talents such as Rhea Ripley, Adam Cole and Pete Dunne, from Nia Jax going on a tear in the men's match of 2019, to a D'Von-less Bubba Ray's homecoming in 2015: This is the WWE Royal Rumble Surprise Entrants Tier List!

In regards to Haku in 2001: he won the WCW Hardcore Championship literally one week before the Rumble. He won the Title then a week later went "fuck this" and jumped ship to be in the Rumble.

With the Three Faces of Foley entrances, I've always wondered (if it was a shoot) what would have happened if Cactus was still in the match when Mankind's number came up. Would Mick get "an extra life" for each character?

That would be a cool new day spot idea actually. Xavier and Big E (or since Big E is getting his push now maybe Xavier and Kofi) give their spots to the final member, and that person is allowed to just immediately get back in 2 times after they've been thrown out

AJ was the biggest surprise for me, I had taken a break from wrestling for quite a while by that point. I wasn't following any rumors and when I saw him I was about to explode. With Edge, I was hearing the rumors of him returning since Summerslam. The rumors didn't died out for months and my conclusion was, if the rumors aren't dying out for so long, then they're probably true. When he returned, I wasn't as surprised as most people. Christian's return this year surprised me more than Edge's return.

Fun fact: by the 2001 Royal Rumble, Big Show had already turned from heel-to-babyface-to-heel NINE TIMES! That's 9X within a 2 year period from when he debuted to this Royal Rumble, 2 of those happened at this event.

Oh boy, Rumble returns...I have 3 that spring to mind as my personal best. First, Edge in the 2010 Rumble. I remember sitting there towards the end and suddenly thinking "Hey, Edge got injured a while back, how great would it be if he came back and eliminated Jericho"...needless to say i was shitting my pants a few minutes later. Secondly, Chris Jericho as #2 in 2013. For this one i was sitting with a couple of friends watching the Rumble when all of a sudden Jericho's music hits and i swear time stood still for just a second and me and my friends all turned and looked at each other in complete silence before bursting out laughing. And finally, Mick Foley in the 2004 rumble, i must have been 11 or 12 years old and i lost my mind when he eliminated himself and Randall Keith. Great vid as always fellas

AJ Styles’ is the most surprising entrant in Rumble history. The man who’d you’d just come to assume would never work for the company (aside for his pseudo-developmental run), and then he comes in at no.3, and is allowed to dominate and be a star. He’s the only person built outside the WWE that’s been allowed to enter at the top as a star since the WCW days. Torn between AJ’s Rumble or Sting’s Survivor Series as the most surprising debut of all time.

The whole intergender wrestling thing is kind of funny to me. If you had say, Braun versus say Nikki Cross and he just demolished her, people would have a fit, but replace her with Marco Stunt (ignoring companies for a minute), who is much smaller and "weaker" and most people would be fine with it.

Great list to do. Having only got to Molly Holly, but should have used her entrance from 2018 when both myself and a friend of mine, who had never seen Molly, had a massive pop when she nailed a Molly-go-round. Amazing to see her back in general but that was definitely lovely lovely lovely :)

The biggest thing about Christian's return was that in 2020 they teased a match with Randy Orton during the feud with edge but said he wasn't medically cleared. That's what made it so crazy. Cause it was implied never happening

As we are in lockdown meaning that we are in our houses, could you do a tier list of In Your House events from the first one in 1995 up to St Valentine's Day Massacre in 1999. There was also an NXT version if I remember correctly.

The only one I disagree with is Victoria,she should have gone into lovely lovely. it seemed like she was suppose to come in last year but she didn't and it felt like she never would. She felt like the last of the Diva era wrestlers who 100% deserved to be there but may have not got in there. She looked great, held her own and really added to the rumble.

Before watching, Edge 2020 deserves to be THE top spot. A 9 year retirement due to legitimate career ending injuries he SHOULDN'T have been able to heal from. By far one of the most emotional returns WWE has ever had. Can't even think about it without tearing up. Cena should also be pretty high up, coming back from his pec it was absolutely superhuman he was able to make the rumble. The pop proved that.

Edges return will never be matched for me, I was going out that night not even watching the match and my dad who isn’t even a wrestling fan happened to be watching it and called me down because Brock was wrecking house. My friend was coming by to pick me up and he came in to watch Brock bully everyone. And when Edge came out I lost my mind, my friend was like “wtf, I thought he retired? What is he doing here? When did he came back?” asking me a million questions while I was in shock. Him almost winning made it even better.

Seriously shocked that Becky's entrance in the 2019 rumble wasn't considered. She wasn't advertised for the match, up until the match her participation wasn't confirmed, and she was a last second replacement like Foley was when he took out Test (and that was counted here). The pop was bigger than Cena's return by far.

I usually agree with the lists but this one is really bad, you guys have Kacy Catanzaro on this list but not Andrade when he entered as NXT Champion the night after having a 5 star classic with Gargano. That’s one of the greatest surprises in royal rumble history and it’s not even on this list

I think this would of been a much better list without all the NXT surprises. Adding people like: Mr Perfect (Lovely Lovely Lovely) Road Dogg (Lovely Lovely Lovely/Alright) Boogeyman (Alright) Mabel (Alright) Jimmy Snuka (Just about Bearable) Mil Mascaras (Just about Bearable/In the Bin)

You know you think just once,You have a jobber or or a bottom card guy win the rumble. Obviously you have to pick someone who’s a good ring hand, But have them get knocked unconscious at the beginning and go under the bottom rope and then just come in right as the other guy thinks he’s won and push them out. Build the mania Match from there and see if you can get them over
