I agree with you about the smut levels. I've read so many sex scenes in my 40+ years of reading adult books that they're just not that interesting most of the time. I'm reading for the relationships. I too want to be convinced that the couple belongs together, and I want to like them enough to enjoy their journey.

At some point, I skip them if they happen in a book too often or the scenes aren’t interesting. Sometimes it’s really good though, especially if you feel the chemistry between the couple but I definitely think the romance and relationship itself is more interesting (to me at least)

Totally agree with the annoyance at all the smut-focused romance. If you're looking for another KU sapphic author, I just discovered Haley Cass and LOVED her holiday romance "When You Least Expect It". Both heroines are in their 30s and the one heroine is getting divorced from a crappy man, and wants the other heroine to be her divorce lawyer. It was so refreshingly sweet and romantic.

I feel the same way you do! Like honestly smut is just boring if there is no actual relationship development or romance behind it. I just will not care. That’s also just not a reason I read romance. I like reading romance for the pining and the emotional relationship arc.

Definitely agree with the smut comment! In an earlier video you said that Talia Hibbert writes some of the best steamy scenes (which is true she is a Queen) but she also writes great ROMANCE. I personally don’t want one without the other. The reason I thought Chloe and Red in Get a Life Chloe Brown were sooo freaking hot together was because I believed their romance from start to finish. I think that aspect has been missing in a lot of the books I’ve read this year

I love your tier ranking videos, Chandler. I just finished reading Check Mate by Ali Hazelwood and was throughly charmed by it mostly because im a big fan of her dialogue and writing style. The story is YA so it's pretty predictable, but the characters were fun so check it out if you're a fan of hers.

Given your love of small town/country romance, it would be interesting to hear your opinions on similar genres but set in other countries e.g. Australian Outback romance (and I'm sure there are similar in other countries). I would be interested in what differences you notice compared to the American counterpart, like turns of phrase and language used, and whether that was refreshing or annoying. Possible video idea??

Lost my shit at "Neigh up in this bitch". And as someone who finally subscribed to KU and binge-read at least 300 KU books this year, i too am banged out. But I find that if i take a break and read some fantasy that's more plot-driven, it makes a good palette cleanser.

For the author Katharina, you should try Bittersweet memories and Professor Astor. Is an interconnected series but I didn’t love the 1st 2 books, loved the 2nd two

I am trying to decide if I want to keep KU. It seems the majority of the books I read from it are 3 star reads. 3 is ok, but I think I need to find more higher star books in order to keep this. I enjoyed this video and see a few to check out.

Finally someone who feels the same about The Wrong Bride as me. There was just too much that didnt make any sense in this book. And the resolution made me actually vocalize my frustration that i had to go into deep detail the issues with this book with my poor husband. Everyone else RAVES about this book and it honestly made me not want to read anything else by her because i felt lime i was lied to.

Chiming in to say that I am also over smut focused romance. Would rather have a swoon worthy romance with maybe some heavy petting. ✌️ but most importantly, PINING and a plot of some kind.

A Not So Meet Cute by Meghan Quinn isn't an accidental pregnancy book, but I can see where you're getting confused aha. The MMC needs someone to pretend to be his pregnant fiancee (enter FMC), but she isn't actually pregnant; because of this, the book involves multiple parenting-related activities (eg. parenting classes). I wouldn't say you missed out by DNFing tbh. In my opinion, the MMC's actions in the latter part of the book weren't redeemable and their relationship was quite toxic.

I think I may have been one of the people who commented convincing you to try Emily McIntire again! If so, then I would highly recommend Scarred (Lion King reimagining), the second book in the Never After series. The books in this series are not connected at all and you can easily read them separately (as they all follow different fairy tales).

I don't think Emily McIntire is good, honestly. I wouldn't recommend giving her another try. I read Scarred by this author and found it deeply irritating. And other books of hers seem even worse.
