So the appraiser recommended to replace the chain which will cost abt $200 but will have to be repaired by a Tiffany lamp specialist and the value will go up a whopping $500 wth a profit of $300. For a $40,000 value estimate, I wouldn't risk moving it for an extra lousy $300.

Yeah, just leave that to the buyer! If they're buying a $30,000 lamp I'm sure they've had it done before.

Found a box of my husband old toys not too long ago. GI Joes, transformers that are actually metal, Garbage Pail Kids cards, and a Dukes of Hazzard Lunch box. It was like finding treasure!

My Mom and I enjoy watching this show together and we've noticed the same thing! Especially with paintings! As my Mom says, "If I wouldn't hang it in an outhouse, it's got to be worth a million dollars!" Lol!

The excitement is always the value monetarily as opposed to the beauty of the lamp. Sad.

I disagree. I think it's more about something that you already have loved for years and finding out it also is worth a lot of money. In a lot of these cases, people bring in things they have had for years so they obviously already find them beautiful. People don't come on the show to decide if something has beauty or not, they want to know more about it.
