I’m a freshman in high school in welding 1. We are doing mig right now and out teacher is giving us your videos for homework and they have helped me a lot. I’m not the best welder but I’m decent and I love welding. Thanks for the help.

If you like welding, stick with it and learn it as best you can so that when your classmates go off to rack up student loan debt in college, you can start dragging in over $30K/yr the day after graduation and be making closer to $50K by the time they come out of college and have to start paying those loans off. Also, go to Jody's website. It's a lot easier to find videos classified into what you are looking for than trying to sort through the RU-vid channel. Watch as much of his stuff as you can, and if you still need to learn more after that, you can always get some trade school classes. But I'm serious - good welders are in very high demand and make pretty good money.

While in shop class, each student ran 2 runs of stick. That was it. Hindsite is 20/20. My 50th graduation party is coming up. I took a couple of welding classes 2 years ago. I wish I had continued with the skill of welding. Now, it's a fun hobbie. I'm on my 3rd log splitter and second rocket stove. Watch the early chucke. 5 or six years ago he was just out of high school and possibly in welding school. Lots of info on his channel too. B4 my welding school, I'd ask questions and Jessy would always respond. Your teacher chose well. Good luck kid!!!PS So important not to breath the fumes. From a 68 year ol-dude.Lite-m-up!

I love my clear cup and tig finger. Bought a CK flex-loc 250 water cooled torch years ago after melting several air cooled heads and wouldn't have anything else now. Still running an old dinosaur Syncrowave 500 without the bells and whistles but a dependable old workhorse for what I do. Keep up the good work Jody.

Although I can do multivariable calculus and differential equations trying to TIG weld is something that has eluded me for 20+ years. I took a class when I was a senior in high school up at the college, but I never got the perfect rhythm of torch movement, Rod dipping and pedal control. I think my biggest problem was actually that I was trying to do it based on Rhythm rather than doing it based on the puddle. I don't have a strong need to learn how to TIG weld in my life but it's just one of those things that I put on my bucket list such a long time ago I can't give up now. Anyways I really love your videos because you explain it to someone like they have no idea why you're doing what you're doing, which is how all great instructors should explain things

I've been learning how to TIG aluminum this past year and you have been a critical resource! Thanks! Maybe you could do a hollow aluminum cube made from 1" square tubing 1/8" thick or 1/16" thick. Already been practicing on my own to build a van galley for my Sprinter buildout but it would be awesome to see you do it. I guarantee that from your commentary, I would find a bunch of golden nuggets of tips and tricks!

Thanks so much Jody, your advice has been very helpful to me for my TIG class, and your TIG Finger is popular with the instructors, and your videos recommended, but I have already been following you on youtube for a couple of years! I am having the most difficulty with "square groove" welds on aluminum, getting full penetration without blowing through the material. I don't think i have seen you do that one yet.

Wish the welds had break bend tests to compare filler alloys? Also descaling vs raw mill scaled metals would show that surface prep makes a world of difference in final weld strength/failure. Like a polished etched section of coupon; a break-bend test gives a real world summary of weld strength as applied in different alloys and surface prep sequences.

Lincoln 205t Invertec: Can any one help with settings? My arc is way too ~violent, sporadic, jumpy, crazy. I file the tungsten to a point (believe Gold 1.5%) , pulse setting off, everything from ~10-20"s of gas....turning down the amperage I can't get a puddle...so I guess I need the two other settings balance & frequency. I'm welding all automotive applications: weld on AN bungs, tanks, nipple barbs, coolant pipes...so nothing heavy.

You said you were using Argon welding Aluminum. Why not use Helium? I may be showing my ignorance, back in my Boeing days my tooling welders always used Helium when welding aluminum, and Argon on steel! You also made a statement, which is a great idea. One day you will have a heads up display inside your helmet. That would be nice, as long as it stays out of your field of view.

Is it possible to mark the rod, with inch marks or something? A gentle etch, or marking of some kind that doesn't affect the weld. Just an idea. Thanks!!
