I don't know if its my cheap chinese tig welder or my lack of welding skills, but my welds always burn through, or if I'm trying to lap weld, the top piece will burn away instead of melting into the bottom piece

Would to see a video of dialing in the setting on tig welding aluminum for a nice clean shinny bead like you have or something to help some of us out that are doing our part to clean for the best weld but still end up with junk after all said and done
@5thStreetFab
@5thStreetFab 5 лет назад
Ok I'll try To put something together. Usually that means bad gas coverage. Either From needing to turn up the gas or from your torch being too far away
@antikoolaid9891
@antikoolaid9891 5 лет назад
Without a huge gas lens/cup my laps joints on sheet metal always end up bbqed unless I weld at superlow amps and do like 3 dips at a time .
@5thStreetFab
@5thStreetFab 5 лет назад
It should look like it does at 7:10 if you're not using a large gas lens. If it's chalky looking it's roasted. If you can try to atleast put a piece of aluminum under it or clamp it to it

When fusion welding do you keep the amperage and travel speed consistent or are you pulsing or moving the torch around?
@5thStreetFab
@5thStreetFab 5 лет назад
I keep a consistent speed and amperage but you can push forward and pause or pulse with the machine or pulse with the foot pedal it's really personal preference and what your customers/ boss wants
@jockellis

@@5thStreetFab I was thinking about getting one for old aluminum. It seems like the people I been asking prefer a gun over TIG for old aluminum. (boat, pontoon, trailer, etc repairs) whats your opinion?

@@unitedstatesofbuild4915 ya we do most of our repairs with MIG. Mostly because it's way quicker. There's a bit of a learning curve though.

do you push down with your tungsten before stepping on the pedal or keep a gap between the tungsten and work pice?

@@5thStreetFab Ooh.. I am not sure I understand the question and the answer. It got me confused. You have HF start, right? Do you, 1.touch the metal, 2. lift 1/16 up so that you have a feel for the distance, and then 3. step on the pedal? Or you touch, press the pedal, and then lift the tungsten. What is the sequence and for what purpose exactly?? Signed, A confused noob. :)
@5thStreetFab
@5thStreetFab 5 лет назад
@@danl.4743 yes your first answer haha I just touch it and then back up to make sure my arc is going to be in the right spot and to get my tungsten distance right, then I step on the pedal
