Tiger Stripe Camouflage Effectiveness

In this video I talk about the camouflage pattern Tiger Stripe. I'll talk about some of the different variations of it offered by multiple different companies on the civilian market. I also throw in some examples of concealment and movement while wearing two different versions of Tigers. Keep in mind my goal in this video is not to completely conceal myself from the viewer, but to merely show the potential of tiger stripes effectiveness, as well as demonstrate some of its limitations. Tiger stripe works best in the deeper darker and more dense areas of the woods. Notice how much I stand out when I'm in the more light filled open woods. It's a great pattern but definitely has its limitations.

As cool as tiger stripe looks, it wasn't very effective and short lived in the US military. Horizontal lines are easy to pick up on and its to dark most of the time. Lighter camo reflects light and darker camo absorbs it. Bow hunters know this well, came patterns like Asat and Predator are vastly superior .I was issued left over tiger stripe uniforms in Honduras and Panama, but we usually just used the solid green o.d. jungle fatigues or woodland that seemed to work better.

Well, I'm afraid I am going to have to disagree with you about tiger-stripe. It is WAY too dark for your particular 'jungle.' Try an SS 'Oakleaf A' pattern (which was stolen by the Russians and is now called 'Partizan'), or possibly even an SS 'Palm tree,' or maybe 'Plane tree.' You will have MUCH better results than tiger-stripe, and they are all reversible to an outstanding autumn pattern as well.

Yea they all have their time and place. This very lush green environment may not be the most suitable for it. However, I live in Florida near the Everglades and it would be absolutely suitable given the dark veg like moss plus the muddier swamp environments has a lot of of dark lines and blotches. So it’s very effective here and even more effective if it starts getting dirty

Good vid, my old man ran LRRP missions in Vietnam, he loved tiger stripes. He told me " movement" is what catches the eye more than anything. He said, "Victor Charles" wore black silk pajamas very effectively and blended well, while the NVA " Regulars" wore all tan uniforms, either one worked well as long as they stayed still, he always stressed movement, stay still and you will not be seen.

Tiger stripe works great as long as you have the right pattern for the right vegitation, on the subject on vietnam era camo ERDL works very well too, and it's a little forgiving when it comes to the vegitation surrounding you. Of course standard OD works great too as there's no design patterns that can outline your silhouette. In the end it also comes down to how well you can conceal yourself. Some NVA had blue uniforms and they made it work just as well as anything

Cool looking gear. I have sometimes wonder, a tiger has stripes, so do a zebra. And many other animals have more or less that to break up their shape in the wild. These uniforms also have stripes, but when a human stands up, these stripes are not vertically from up/down like the animals, they seem to be " the wrong way" compared to grass trees and the way the animals wear them. Did they really not think about that or is it some explanation for it ?
@Tarsibu
@Tarsibu 3 года назад
I do know in the case for Zebra's specifically, when out in the wild the black & white stripe pattern became evolutionarily beneficial specifically because it aided the Zebras in survival when attacked by a lion or similar predator. When clumped together, the patterns make it harder for ambush predators to identify an individual zebra; one reason why tigers tend to hunt in packs.

Tiger stripe definitely excels in most woods/jungles as long as you stay under the canopy where the trees cast shadows. But in open fields where there is little to no shadows and more direct sunlight it lacks due to how dark it is. Here in pa its definitely a solid choice in the summer. Winter I'm a fan of multicam do to it being lighter and more earthy colored.

Mate I have seen reproductions of that uniform on eBay. Reversible from a rusty brown fall side to a spring green side. Keen on getting a set myself. Search 'Mitchell camouflage':This was the least expensive set:www.ebay.com/itm/VIETNAM-WAR-US-MITCHELL-CAMO-UNIFORM-P53-FIELD-JACKET-AND-PANTS-TROUSER-XL-33599-/232242564827?hash=item3612bc4edb:g:6Y0AAOxyA9dSZ4venext was:www.ebay.com/itm/WWII-US-MILITARY-ARMY-MITCHELL-CAMOUFLAGE-UNIFORM-JACKET-SHIRT-AND-PANTS-TROUSER/142266682703?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D41394%26meid%3Da91ddef56e2e4643b8a3fcf3506e3f67%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D162236207344 I also saw shelter halves and copies of the USMC multi-pointed 'cover'. Still not inexpensive.Also, much of the clothing doesn't look like it is set up to be reversible, even though the brown side is printed on There should be more reversible camouflage clothing in the world. Whatever happened to that idea?

i would say that tiger stripe is a pretty good woodland camo during most of the year, better than m81 IMO

"better than m81 IMO" who says something that dumb? tiger stripe sucks. it's too dark for spring,summer and fall. and it only works at night.

I'm glad your just playing soldier cause the camo is no use at all, you stuck out like a sore thumb every time. Maybe that is why the US military dropped it very quickly. Enjoy your anyway.

Tiger stripe pattern is almost invisible in the thick, dense, multi foliage layers forests of Indochina. I’ve born there, I knew.

Nope I’m not down with it for use. Just using cover seems more effective because when he moves out of cover he stands out like a bulldogs bollocks. That being said it looks cool so ya gonna wear it 😎

I prefer the Italian Vegetato camo and for high grass i would take OD or Atacs FG because Tigerstripe is ti dark, there's no black in the nature.

I live in a temperate rainforest. Lots of Greens. Then sudden browns. Which is why tiger stripe is great. Wouldn't wear it over cadpat though.

Tiger stripe will be good for Washington forest. As there's much darker shadows and greenery along with alot more brown and diverse foliage

The problem with this is that you are not in the Vietnamese jungle. Testing tiger stripe on your land at the time in the conditions shown here would be similar to testing desert camouflage on your land in these conditions. The only thing we can learn from the video is the obvious, that tiger strip e is obviously not suited for this environment. But it does not demonstrate whether or not tiger stripe would work in it’s intended environment.

well, not an awful camo concept as pattern but sincerely ok disruptivitiness but note the real absence of medium / light green color (instead the too dark black or similar) that in tropical and subtropical environements is or should be of default,for a camo drop

have you seen or tried asat camo what do you think about it. on a military point of view and a hunters ( if you hunt ) point of view.

In my opinion it is too dark. In most shots, you almost appear like a black hole in the environment where there's just a random black spot. The only place I find that it's really effective is either near a dark tree or in a shadow.
