In Nepal, we stayed at Tiger Tops Tharu Lodge. It was great, so we would like to share what we did.
Here is the website.

This video shows "Jungle Walk" activity.
There are 2 types of Jungle Walk at Tiger Tops.
①Jungle Walk with Elephants - duration 2 hours
Tips of this activity:
*Walk in a line
*Don't run when you encounter wild animals
In this activity, you walk through a jungle with elephants. Actually it's one of the elephants' daily activities and you get to participate.
We walked with our naturalist, Gyan. He is really knowledgeable and we're happy we had him.
But...
How can the elephants protect us??
Because...
We were nervous about being close to rhinos because on safari in Africa in 2021, we were charged by a rhino in our jeep and I dropped my phone in a jungle.
At Tiger Tops, the elephants warn other animals not to get close with noises, so don't worry!!
There are 8 female elephants at Elephant Camp by Tharu Lodge. At Tiger Tops, the guests don't ride elephants. They stopped elephant-back safaris a long time ago due to the stress it caused elephants. Instead, we have an opportunity to walk with them. We see them closer, touch them, and watch what they eat.
We saw some tiger tracks. Gyan knew how long ago they were made and male or female.
While we were walking, the mahouts spotted something and we followed them.
Gyan told us to go to that way, then one horned rhino was there in the misty morning.
The rhino was amazing.
We had an opportunity to see how the elephants reacted to the rhino. The elephants protect us and allow us to see wild animals up close on foot.
The rhino was eating mud and he didn't see us well because it was still misty and rhinos have bad eye sight. It was like watching a dinosaur in Jurassic Park.
When it's clear, it looked like the rhino saw us.
「Will he charge us?」
He left while he was marking.
②Jungle Walk without Elephants - duration 3 hours
Started by crossing the Narayani River by boat to get to Chitwan National Park.
Tips of this activity:
*Listen to the naturalist
*Don't run when you encounter wild animals
*Tigers live there too
We saw a rhino on the other side of the pond and Gyan knew that the rhino wanted to cross the water, so at first he told me to hide.
He crossed the water and came to our side exactly as Gyan said, so we were safe.
And we saw another rhino. He was injured and he had cuts on his body and blood was flowing out.
Gyan said he must have fought with another rhino. They normally use teeth to fight.
We relied on Gyan without the protection of the elephants. He knew that the rhino was relaxed and we were at a safe distance. What an amazing experience to see these animals so close at Tiger Tops.
I want to go back to Tiger Tops someday again!
