Tiger Woods’ glorious comeback at the 2019 Masters deserves a deep rewind

This could be one of the greatest comebacks in sports history. It’s Sunday, April 14th, 2019. Were in Augusta, Georgia, for the illustrious Masters Tournament. Tiger Woods is on the 18th hole with a chance to snatch his 5th green jacket. He's staring down a gimmie putt, but if Tiger doesn’t drain it we’re headed to a four-way tiebreak. But before we see what comes next, it's been quite the journey for us to get to this point. Let's rewind!

If we as a people cease to believe redemption is possible, we are well and truly lost. None of us perfect, and we should often think twice before condemning people - we all have our wars to fight and it is foolish to think we always beat them on the first try, without scars.

The full magnitude of Tigers dominance is really tough to articulate. No one, and i mean no one, has grown their sport and brought so many people to the game like Tiger. And that 2005 shot on 16 is hands down my favorite shot of all time.

@Fermion. Месяц назад
@@scooby149999 I'm not so sure about that. Tiger's 10 year reign of dominance was absolutely incredible. Not taking anything away from Tony Hawk, but he hit the epic 900, and was the king of skateboarding for about 3 or 4 years, but the field eventually caught up and surpassed him with crazier tricks. I don't think golf will ever see a decade long span of such absolute dominance again. Tiger in his prime wasn't a question of is he gonna win, but how much is he gonna win by. I know some people will never understand it, but i cried like a baby that day. There's something about an imperfect hero that just gets us as humans. Kids today will never understand the way this man completely transcended golf. It went from a bunch of talented golfers who were fun to watch at times, to a bunch of 4 and 5 star athletes who could've played any of the major 4 sports. He brought in millions and millions of people as spectators who would not have been otherwise, ntm the thousands, maybe millions, of kids who picked of a golf club because of him. Many of whom are PGA tour members today. There is just something about watching greatness. And very few athletes have ever truly achieved it. Maybe none the way Tiger has.

I think many kids became hooked; even his 2008 U.S. Open tournament (which I don't remember if it has its own episode, but I hope it does if not) was seen by many as him at his top form. But when Y.E. Yang rallied to beat him in the 2009 PGA, that was when the wheels started coming off. So, to see him in '19, I can't say I wasn't smiling.

One person in the car liked sports not necessarily golf knew what it meant so he agreed with me and convinced the car to stop at a sports bar 5 miles down the road when we arrived the whole bar had the TV’s on the masters and no one was sitting everyone got to be apart of an awesome moment in sports history with complete strangers all rooting for Tiger to win. Not to mention Gerrards 25 yard last minute screamer to get them out the group stages, luis Garcias ‘ghost goal’ in the semi final to beat a amazing Jose mourinho Chelsea side (that gerrard nearly signed for before the season) or the fact all that meant Liverpool were the last team to win the champions league trophy for keeps (which you used to get after winning it for a 5th time in club history).

Growing up in the late 90s and early 2000s, it was special to be along for the ride in Tiger's prime. Personally, Tiger was the reason I liked wearing red when golfing as a kid. I made sure I wore Nike gear and played Nike golf balls because of Tiger. Heck, the reason I chew gum playing golf today was inspired by Tiger at the '19 Masters. When he won that tourney, it felt - even for a moment - like he was back. The car accident a couple years later was a major bummer, probably the final nail in the coffin to the wild ride that his career was from '09 onwards. As invincible as he tried to be, sadly, he turned out to be mortal after all. Even though golf has its stars now, and still will down the road, I'd be shocked if we see another like Tiger for a while, if ever again. But it's fun to reminisce and look back on wins like this one. Kudos to you, SB!

This is the last golf tournament I remember watching. Started off the Week thinking “well there’s no way Tiger is gonna comeback and win this thing”… but he just kept advancing up the leaderboard… never been that compelled to watch an entire 4 day tournament like that again.

It was my birthday and it was God's gift to golf that delivered - Tiger Tiger Burning Bright. I'll be cheering him on this year as always - Go Get em Champ!
