Somewhat similar to how aldridge left portland, saying he wanted to be the greatest blazer ever, then signing with the spurs instead. Except he never won a ring, and he had a chance with that team in Portland.
Watching this video made me side with A Rod lol fans are stupid tell the owner to match (or exceed it no state tax in Texas) it’s not good to be a hater
There was never a comparison if they were on the same level the only thing they had in common was they got drafted the same class and that’s it you don’t mention Ray in top 3 SG’s so don’t compare him to arguably the best if not 2nd best SG of all time
The perks he was asking for wasn't really crazy and it was probably more Scott Boras than it was him. I had a big time NBA agent tell me once that he didn't hesitate to ask for things like that because all the team could say was either yes or no, so why not ask?
Gotta feel for Tarkenton. He should be thought of as a top a QB. But no ring and not in the conversation, despite the fact he held all the passing records that Marino broke in the late 90’s. It took the league evolving a lot, and the with the passing especially, for records to be beaten. Best Qb of the 70’s, and I’m a Steelers fan.
Ranger fans never attached to him. When we sit around and make all-time teams, he's seldom mentioned. It's not really for hate, but more for indifference. He was here, played well, but it always felt like it was ARod and the Rangers, rather than the Rangers and ARod. Now when he's here doing postseason stuff on TV, it's kinda hard to remember any individual moment he had. In fact the moment most of us remember most is when Neftali Feliz struck him out to send the Rangers to their first World Series.
This was the first big moment in women’s sports that I could ever remember (I’m 24 now). Rhonda and Connor McGregor we’re blowing the UFC up on a massive scale and then her run ended in one single night. She was seen as being 10 times more dominant than we ended up seeing Amanda Nunes be. She was like the woman’s version of Khabib, but in one night it was completely derailed.
I’m a Steelers fan, but I always thought Bud Grant was a top five coach in history. POTENTIAL SPOILERS COMING:::: Because he doesn’t have a ring, no one ever puts him up around the top. But from talking to my dad and uncles, they were the most united team in all senses, especially racially. White players back up black leaders, especially the best white players, which says a lot. I’m glad they didn’t beat the Steelers, but I wish they would have gotten one of the other 3.
An athlete messing around with the job base in their market, current or former, is one of the most disgusting things they can do. It's exactly the reason I hate the franchise player of my hometown team in the one sport I care about. He's the best player they've ever had and I love seeing him lose.
The Mariners whole brand is "We're not that good, but we are a bunch of good guys." The team has always sold the players personas rather than a playoff appearance. It was inevitable for that to turn sour when the curtains fell.
I normally don't like patreon stuff for youtube content, but I really like how you guys are approaching this. Making the same content available, but only later for free users. I hope this ends up being a home run for you guys, you make some of the most interesting stuff on youtube, even for a non-sportsfan. I think of all the videos you've put out, your team history videos are the ones I enjoyed the most. But they also probably take the most work, and are definitely the longest in running time. So I understand if you can't really pump those out more than once or twice a year. They're worth waiting for.
I was at Safeco for the return of Alex in 2001. The amount of hate and virtriol was palpable. People hung out after the game to sling back beers and call him every name in the book even though he had long since left the field. It was great.
I think you can make a Beef History about A-Rod and Boston too, then again, you can probably do one about A-Rod and any city. But watching this, I realized one thing. A-Rod betrayed the Mariners, the very next season they tied the Major League wins record (pity about the ALCS though but still), then in 2004 he wasted the Red Sox time and all they did was reverse the curse. So for that, thanks A-Rod!
I grew up loving Alex Rodriguez back in the late 90s when I was just a young Mariners fan and I also grew to hate him after he left. Now that I'm older and wiser, I can confidently say that Mariner fans need to let go of the A-Rod hate. Yes, he made a decision based solely on greed and he's a very egotistical person. However, I'm not entirely convinced the 2001 season would end up the same or better with A-Rod on the team taking up that much payroll. A-Rod has been out of the league for years now and seems (or at least acts) regretful of his decisions. It's time to move on from the bitterness and embrace A-Rod as one of the greatest players in Seattle history.
