If you really listen closely to what Phil has stated, this competition could make the PGA reevaluate their long standing policies. That in effect could make things better for the professionals on the PGA Tour. You know the old saying and it’s true, competition builds excellence.

At this stage in there career especially phil they would be nuts to not consider that kind of money and what little golf they have to play to earn it I think the PGA is just butthurt about all that lost revenue they even have golf digest writing hit pieces on liv.
This shows you how much Greg Norman knows about his fellow golfers. The only thing Tiger Woods is interested in is history. There’s no history over there to be made
Woods only said he turned down an offer. He has never stated how much it was for. Only Norman has stated the number. Now suddenly everyone believes everything Norman says.
Good for Tiger, some people have integrity and all the money they need, also appreciate living in this country and what it’s helped them do with their life.
just a shame he did not have the same integrity for his ex-wife and very young children. Stop sugar coating the reason, his injury is in such a state that he knows he's playing days are over.
Very funny calling him a man of integrity! He got rich from taking money from Nike! Nike! Well know child labor user. China has been making him rich for years. The same country using slaves. He would know what leads to problematic consequences if he joins the LIV. Seemingly, he is determined to stay cautious to protect his reputation as much as possible. People still love him, though. I think the main reason Rory McIlory refused joining the LIV is that his wife worked for the PGA tour in the past - a moral decision.
Tiger is not in hurting status when it comes to how much money he has. His current health could be a contributing factor far as how much can he walk and not be in pain with his legs in the LIV tour. Will other Pros slowly bow out of the PGA to go to the LIV, only time shall tell.
Tiger has secured his legacy at the top of the list of the great golfers ... Nicklaus, Palmer, Player, on and on. In my mind those golfers who left have erased their playing legacies and reduced it to 'More money ... More money'. So sad. Showing their true colors. Not interested! Whose turn is it to win next week?
Tiger is already a Billionaire, why would he use up some of his freedom and time to be stuck in a contract to make a show. Tiger has some loyalty to the PGA, as he should, it made him 1.5 billion so far. Great move Tiger, I'm proud of you.
$2.1 billion. He's not desperate. I've always respected Tiger Woods, but this made me respect him even more. Shows how much of a class act he truly is.

Legendary is an understatement. This golf idol changed the way of the game. He's the undisputed face of golf. He's not stupid enough to destroy his 82 win career.
Anything "Saudi backed" is a no go for me if I had PGA Tour talent. However, the PGA Tour is not a dictatorship. They should quit crybabying and let them chose where to play without repercussions.
I am a bit sad as there are a few golfers that went to the LIV tour that I will miss seeing play as I will not watch those slimy fools. They will take their large payday and when it fails the poorer players will have nowhere to go.
I was wondering why Mickelson moved from California to Florida. I knew it was a state income tax reason so I figured he was planning on a big taxable income payday. Now I know the reason.
Here’s my 2 cents. Professional bass fishing tried the same type of thing with MLF and Bass has seen more than one of those pros return. I personally don’t watch MLF because I don’t care for the format but I think there’s a certain loyalty to BASS and it’s events that has stood the test of time. Do I hate the ones who are taking huge amounts of money to join LIV golf? No. I do however think you will see some of them regret it.
What where the conditions the LIV gave Tiger beside money, What was the contract? And what did thePGA offer Tiger to not jump ship? Plus how long will;l Tiger be playing? Will Tiger surprise us with super health recovery ? If some of the big name don't join LIV how strong will the LIV be in the future?
If you knew about Tiger. You would already know he's NEVER been about the money. He was is and as long as he can be competitive. Will always be about the majors. That green jacket being number one on that list and Jack's record. At any rate no way he throws his legacy away for money.
Not just his but if he joined could you imagine what his son would go through. You know as a father he wasn’t going to do that to his son. He’s a good father and no amount of money will change that.
Tiger of 15 years ago...Later PGA, and they would still let him play the majors. And the guys that left for LIV will play them too. That's is all the modern player cares about.
When I first got into golf I was crazy about the sport or game if you will and got the golf Channel on my satellite dish. I listen to the guy named Kessler I think he was back then and all about the history and I soaked it in and it permeated my golfing soul. Now Norman would have us sell our souls to the devil for the highest price. I will not pay any attention to the liv tour. My money is on the PGA tour and the history of the game and the pleasure that it brought me to play a game when I understood the history at the same time. Stick it up your but Norman

The big joke is so far is the LIV sould be called the over the hill gang tour. Phil should be on Champions tour. Even tiger is basically finished at 46 especially with all his bodily wear and tear. The only exceptions would be DJ and Bryson. And DJ hasnt done much lately.
The Asian Tour, the European Tour, and the PGA Tour can play with each other without restrictions, they want to ban LIV Tour because of what? They offers more money? They can’t compete?
Tiger has only completed 1 tournament due to health issues in the last two years. A fit Tiger decision might have been different. What I’ve read about Woods he’s notoriously tight when it comes to money. He’s accepted million dollar appearance fees for small tournaments. He’s 46 now maybe he’s maturing with age he made the correct decision. I doubt he’ll win another golf tournament so I’m surprised he didn’t take the money unlike his great rival mr mickelson.
Because Tiger is all about winning Majors and having allusive 19 Majors which Jack Nicklaus has. He might not break it,but his loyalty to the PGA is solid. No way his going to taint his Legacy by switching to the LIV association.
Phil made 180 million in 30 years while the PGA makeing 750 million a year .........Now he got 280 million for a year of play just contract not counting all of the 25 million per tournment he can win if he practice an play good.NOW HE PART OF THE FAMILY what use to be important to AMERICA not anymore though
I'm neutral on this. I believe it will open up avenues for future golfers to compete. Golf is a free enterprise, the PGA's hard stance against it is wrong. They don't own golf.
True. But they think they do. How many “PGA certified” instructors have fleeced and ruined many an amateur’s game regurgitating the same ol’ slop, year after year?
So golfers making 125000 pounds for Finnishing last is OK with you if the worst player in the living is a millionaire surely when he plays other tours the pressure is of on making the cut so you will end up with players who don't have the bottle winning.this is the problem..
First, it is the PGA Tour, not PGA. Two different organizations that have nothibg to do with each orher. Second, did the PGA Tour prevent Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, and other former PGA Tour members from.playing the first Saudi event? Did the PGA Tour prevent Charl Schwarzl from winning the $4M first prize? Answer: No. What the PGA Tour did do is suspend those players privileges (not right) to play on the PGA Tour for violating its by-laws, which all Tour members agree to (in writing) to abide by when they become members. Why are you talking about the PGA Tour doing something they are not doing, but you are not talking about the players violating an agreement they agreed to abide by when they became members of the PGA Tour? The consequence of violating their agreement to abide by PGA Tour by-laws is not that those players can’t chase the ridiculous money being handed out on this Saudi tour. Nobody is restricting them for doing that, as those players did play in the Saudi event. But rather, the consequence of violating the Tour’s by-laws is that they can’t play on the PGA Tour. I don’t know where anybody got the idea that anyone can be an employee/independent contractor or a member of an organization and think they have an absolute right to work for any employer or be an organization member and, if hired/admitted, they have zero consequences for not abiding by the employer’s/organization’s rules, especially when those rules were agreed to. Now, tell me in what world that situation exists; that situation certainly doesn’t exist in this world. The PGA Tour and its rules can’t physically restrict anyone from playing on another tour, just like the maximun speed law can’t physically restrict anyone from driving faster than the maximum speed limit. You can choose to drive faster than the max speed any time you want to do si, but if you are caught by police driving faster that law provides for consequences. The same is true for the PGA Tour’s rule prohibiting its members from playing on another tour….which every Tour member agrees in writing to abide by (as well as all other Tour rules) when they become a Tour member (which people conveniently fail to acknowledge). Golf may be a “free enterprise” (whatever you mean by that), but the PGA Tour is most definitely not a free enterprise; it is a private member organization. Nobody has a free or absolute right to play golf on the PGA Tour, just like nobody has the free right to play golf on this new Saudi tour. Actually, playing on the Saudi tour is more restrictive, as its events are all invitationals, with no rules governing who is invited to play, which is up to their complete discretion and those invited to play can be disinvited at will. To be a PGA Tour member, one of several qualifications had to be met (finishing in the top 125 in prize money won the prior season, qualifying through Q school tournament, etc), as well as agreeing in writing to abide by all PGA Tour by-laws. Every employer has rules that anyone working for that employer has to abide by as a condition to continue working for that employer. Employees and independent contractors don’t have a right to work any olace they want. They have a right to pick which employer they want to work for, but that employer is not obligated to hire them and, if hired, continued employment can be conditioned on following the employer’s rules. Your “free enterpruse” argument seems to imply that a person has right to work anyplace they want and that employer has to hire them with no conditions or rules that myst be followed in order to continue to work there. You are talking about a fantasy land that doesn’t exist. There is no place or job that anyone has a right to work for. No employer has an obligation hire any person. There are always conditions to being hired and conditions to remaining hired. The players that grabbed the big money to sign with the Saudi tour are obviously making a choice about what is better for them, which nobody is prevebting them from choosing. But if the big money of this Saudi tour is so good for these players, why are they threatening legal action against the PGA Tour for not being able to remain a Tour member? If the Saudi tour and its ridiculous money is so good for these players, why do they want or need the PGA Tour?
If Phil received $280,000,000 to play on the Liv tour, that's a 9 figure number. $1b is an order of magnitude higher. No one, not even Tiger, is having $1b thrown at them.

Any contract can fall apart. Saying we will pay you this or that only matters if they do so without you having to take them to court. Plus, there have been countless leagues that have folded through the years. The PGA is a known and historic league. Tiger can always join the LIV at 50 if he wants.
Except he's not. I don't think Tiger Woods will be desperate enough to abandon not only his endorsements, but the 82 wins he accrued in his entire career, let alone his billionaire status.
Tiger doesn't need the money at all. At this point in career he only cares about one thing and that's breaking Jack Nichols record for major titles and only thing that keeps him going.

It’s been reported that Tiger is already a billionaire, so I assume saying no to a nine figure offer isn’t as tempting as it might appear to someone with considerably less assets. Professional athletes play their particular sport for the enormous amount of money that they’re paid these days and, of course, their celebrity status. Pro sports is a business first and foremost. Their loyalty, for a lot if not most athletes, is always for sale to the highest bidder. And why shouldn’t it be? It’s a business and their time to earn such huge amounts of money is limited and another athlete is always looking to take their job.
Apparently Tiger was offered a billion to join LIV. That is 10 figures. Even if he is already a billionaire, he is 46 years old and his days playing on, much less winning on, the PGA tour are numbered. I just don't see how he could have turned such an offer down. There has to be more to the story.
@@plembonicities6263 I agree. It appears that Tiger’s injury, at least for the immediate future, has ended his ability to play championship level golf on the tour. That noted, he’s still the biggest fan draw on the PGA circuit and that is likely the reason the LIV tour offered him a billion dollars to join them…. but did they really make such an offer based solely on his celebrity status? Tigers loyalty to the PGA is the supposed reason he turned down the money. I’m with you, there has to be more to the story than what’s being made public. The PGA really couldn’t afford to lose their biggest star, even if he isn’t the same Tiger Woods anymore. If Tiger left that could break the damn, and open the flood gates for a mass exodus to the LIV tour. Is it possible the PGA matched the LIV offer but is keeping it private with an NDA? I watched a bit of it it's more like a golf demonstration than a real competitive tournament. Nobody gets cut seriously reminds me of kids sports where everyone gets a trophy. Why would Tiger want to play there he doesn't need the money so it's a no win situation in his case.
Tiger isn’t playing there because the big contract would require a big commitment to playing. He doesn’t want to deal with that schedule at his age with his injuries. I suspect many of Tigers injuries are related to his steroid usage.
Greg is a Richard, as is every player that has gone to the LIV tour except for maybe Dustin Johnson, I mean Patrick "known cheater" Reed has got to be the biggest Richard there is.
The crazy thing is that due to the injury, Tiger doesn't even plan to play much if any on the PGA Tour anymore. All he cares about are the 4 majors and that's USGA where the PGA Tour doesn't have any control over. If it wasn't for the loyalty aspect, Tiger could and should switch over to play the more lucrative LIV and still has a chance with the 4 major and go for the 18 majors legacy.
I doubt he will ever win another major. Age, bad leg and back, and better younger players like Will Zalatoris will win a major before Tiger. You only get one body, and there is no magic to bringing it back to OEM. He needs to stay out of the limelight and keep his opinions to himself. No one on Tour came out and criticized him when he had his "marital" problems, he shouldn't be stabbing others in the back either.

AND... LIV is free free to watch unlike the PGA... seems the Scottish Reich could be losing it's monopoly...⛳
Indeed, there are at least 15 guys on the Korn Ferry tour who would do very well on the LIV tour. If they wanted to give up on their PGA dream they probably could get some of Greg's money
I have different opinions on this, I can't blame some of the pros going for the guaranteed money in LIV tour with no cuts. Just look at the LPGA, they are being dominated by the Asians who for years stayed on the Women's Asian tour for women, then saw all the money in America and the rest is history.
I was on the PGA's side but have changed my mind. The way the pga is acting to current players wanting to try the LIV league out, I'm on the players side. The pga is acting like a bully and threatening the players. The Open Championship is not a pga event even though the pga and R&A work together. I'm not a 100% on the liv league and do understand player's staying on the pga, but that doesn't give them (pga) the right to ban players that want to go to the liv league. The pga to me has become to big with non-player's running the show. There's to much money in the commissioner's pocket and others. To me the pga is acting just like government's, not enough bang for your bucks. Have a good day all.
I agree with you and believe the banned players have a great class action suit for restriction of trade despite being against the contract with the PGA. The restrictions in the contract are illegal and therefore should be unenforceable.
This new tour appears to me to be a good place for golfers entering the late stages of their careers. nostalgic tour where you go to get money you could not get playing against the best. Greed and lack of loyalty is apparent here. If you want a tour in another country then play it in that country. I bet this really hurts Mickelson to the core. he will never be on the same level as Tiger.
Tiger will never be on the same level again - he's finished. When you accuse others of lack of loyalty and greed YOU FORGOT McIlroy and dozens of Euro Players turned their backs on their tour )DP World) for big money on the US Tour (big lack of loyalty) then they only come back for the big money events in DP Tour (serious greed). YOU most likely think that these Euro players are americans !!! typical. YOU and McIlroy and the US PGA preach about loyalty BUT many of the Euro Players won't play on the euro tour premier event the BMW at Wentworth AND McIlroy won't even play in HIS OWN National Open --- hows that for loyalty ??? Looks to me like a lot of players and fans are being misled by this rhetoric of LOYALTY AND GREED when the only issues are US PGA protectionism and their very real fear that they will lose the cash cow that pays their wages THE PLAYERS.
You are kidding. It was a third grade tournament with a very limited number of mostly very mediocre players. The average world ranking were around 100 and that showed in the scores. 27 of the 48 players scored from 6 over to 24 over in just three rounds. A boatload of money doesn't change that. It just provides an opportunity for a limited number mercenaries to cash in and won't do anything to enhance the sport.
TW has made his money...it's going to attract the young studs though. They are hungry and a huge bump would go a long way to retiring early... If LIV pulls enough young players TW winning chances go up.
For me, I don’t care whether Phil or Greg or whoever take or don’t take the money, but like as I said here and other post previously, my purpose was/is to say that Phil and Greg were assholes before, during their careers and still are….period! End of story!
Have another look. If you're referring to the fact that they're playing in the US Open, then people that played in the LIV tour can play in it as it's not a PGA event.
Yes, it is. And disruption is the fuel for any wily entrepreneur. So hopefully now the PGA in turn will up their game....INNOVATION? Let the games begin!!!
That's what happen when for decades you think you are the only one in the world and nobody deserve to compete against you...I can't wait that the same happen to the financially discriminated female golfers of the different tours...
With so many top ranked players jumping ship, the competition on the PGA Tour might have eased up some. Tiger’s chances at more victories and possibly more majors just got better. Likewise, the players who left the PGA left behind a lot of top ranked players that they won’t have to compete with anymore. It might take a bit for the talent pool to thin itself out and the cream to rise to the top.
