Why the bridge isnt bigger is mostly answered with "it was more than big enough when they built it" the current bridge was plenty wide enough for most yachts when it was designed and built but yachts have since got on average substantially bigger in all ways so have a hard time fitting... Re building would be hugely costly and I imagine the businesses and property owners either side would not be happy about loosing space to the construction.. Add to this that the bridge is a lifeline connecting the two sides of the island and it being out of use for any time is a major headache for locals only adds to the problem as ideally traffic would have to be maintained while doing the work.. The approach channel would also need to be changed and dredging and even blasting to straighten and widen it would be bad for the local ecosystem... Is there a solution? maybe... but it would be complicated and costly and maybe not the best use of the islands resources
