I feel like Fall Out Boy's record is pretty hard to defend because some tracks are just kinda dumb fun but then again, FOB in general has always been a dumb fun band. You either get it or you don't, and I'm glad to hear that you do.

Ah, classic Crash was what I needed this morning.

I'd add RAYE's "21st Century Blues" to the conversation as well. What a gut-punching, chilling pop and R&B album. Completely agree on "Weathervanes". So far it's the album to beat this year in my mind.

You've gotta try out the new Mckinley Dixon my dude. It's my aoty easily (Paramore and Algiers finish out my top 3).

Even a Fall Out Boy hater like myself can admit that this was a surprisingly decent year for them.

I saw Nuovo Testamento open for Molchat Doma and they burned the house down. Incredible live set one of the strongest opening acts I've ever seen

Skating Polly's Chaos County Line is way up there for me this year

My personal favorite album of the year is Charlotte Cornfield's Could Have Done Anything. It's just a really good alt-country/singer-songwriter/folky album that I really enjoy.

Even with some heavy hitters it’s going to take a lot to top that Jason Isbell for AOTY

You forgot to mention the band name or album name lol. I look for albums by artists recommended by critics like you and Luke in my local library district as a way to introduce myself to new music.

I haven’t heard too many of those but the only ones I’ve heard that I actually enjoyed were Foo Fighters, Metallica and Jelly Roll. I understand if the Jelly Roll album can come off as too preachy in places but that’s my personal opinion.

My favourite so far came from cheerily depressed and angry post-hardcore-ish Scottish band Slime City, who accurately describe themselves as a band for people who "like singing and also fighting". Their debut album Slime City Death Club includes some of the best songs from their previous single releases, like "Dial Up Internet is the Purest Internet" and the existential anthem "You and Everybody that You Love Will One Day Die", alongside great new tracks like "NASA T-Shirt" (I see you wearing your NASA T-Shirt, so name five of their bureaucratic missteps!) and "Glasgow is a Shithole" which is a blistering indictment of, and ode to, their hometown.

As a rock fan I have only heard five albums from this year but I am looking forward to the new blink album if that comes out this year that is and the last Sum 41 album but my ranking for them is 1. But Here We Are 2. In Times New Roman 3. This Is Why 4. So Much (for) Stardust 5. Cracker Island
