Man, I don't use social media (unless you count youtube) and my only connections to the hip hop community are through old school hip hop heads. I had no idea that anybody talked about drake like that. I thought everybody knew him as the shallow, fun dance club music guy. I felt like I was going crazy when the whole beef jumped off and I started seeing comments on here from ppl who think he's a top rapper. As far as I'm concerned, if you use ghostwriters, you can't even be brought up in that conversation, much less claim that you're the best.

If Drake switches and releases another full pop record, then he'll get mocked for following Kendricks preference/advice. The only way he could try and gain credibility back in hip hop culture is to release a focused rap album that has some substance rather than what he does now with bloated albums to get stream play stats. But I think most people seem to agree that he isn't capable of that.

Kendrick endeared himself to the culture. Drake is daring the culture to stop him. This is the biggest reason why it might be over for Drake - at least in HipHop. He's moving in a way that spites the values of the very art form he hopes to be respected in.
I'm not sure Drake still wants to be respected by hip-hop culture. Seems like he gave up on that a long time ago (what with all the disrespect and downplaying we gave him). Now it's all about proving what he can accomplish without their approval.

To be real, I think Drake should just keep doing his pop star thing, 'cause let's face it, he's not a true rapper. Sure, he's got a nice flow and sometimes drops some decent bars, but that's mostly thanks to all those ghostwriters, right? He's not always pushing himself to spit the hardest lines or anything, and he's just trying to stay on top in the rap game by using whatever he can get his hands on from other cultures. I mean, I like Drake and his tunes, they're catchy and all that, but when you peel back the layers, the lyrics are just the same ol' stuff you hear everywhere. He's got OVO and a killer contract, sure, but when it comes to real rapping skills, Kendrick's on another level. That guy's got storytelling and wordplay that's out of this world. So let's be honest, Drake fans, your boy's got a good thing going, but Kendrick's the one with the real rap chops. And about that beef, sorry to break it to ya, but Drake didn't come out on top. Thing is, given the nature of the allegations, there is no plausible redemption arc for Drake. People love an underdog, but not a pdf underdog.
