So you mean your friend did more than just sit in front of the camera and for example just sing and play guitar, that he or she made it into an actual music video kind of like you see the pros do? I mean the pros do a series of visuals to add to the song, like if they are singing about being on the beach they show beach scenes, or racing in a car they show racing cars, someone getting married they flash a wedding scene etc, right?

This is super helpful! We love making content ourselves, but were a little stumped on how to best use TikTok because so much of TikTok seems... well, absurd and silly lol. While our music is upbeat, our lyrics tend to be more introspective and often melancholy. But we do write a lot around themes of personal transformation, breaking down barriers, overcoming hardship, and living your most authentic life. Seems like this could lend itself to content that could potentially resonate! And though our front person Sweeney tends to write about heavier themes, he's also quite hilarious in person. Perhaps a juxtaposition of the two or playing up that irony could be a good angle for us. Either way, this post gives us solid direction for a potential approach!

Since then I got 4 more videos that took off but it's more like a gambling, I still don't know why some videos performed better than another.

I think 2 unless you have a niche tik tok brand. Some people are multi brands and it's hard to only pick one theme to show. Still is such a new business, measuring return on investment, if your views turn into follows or real streams and what price should you be paying ... Very interesting to see what keeps popping up. TikTok appears like a really awesome platform for music promotion, since it's still kinda fresh and there's not as many content creators as on other platforms, but getting there sounds so hard. At least for someone like me, who doesn't do any other content except music and I don't want to reveal my face. The second strategy seems like a matter of luck. Idk, I'll probably try it and let's see how it goes 😂

Great video, the one thing that's bothering me about TikTok personally, is that my niche doesn't seem to be TikTok-friendly at all. If I look up artists that I consider major influences for me (Arcade Fire, TWOD) I really find that nobody's really using that kind of music. Do you have suggestions about this?

Thomas Jakob I’ve been on Tik Tok since 2020 trying to study the algorithm and platform generally and all she said in this video is just like a tip of the iceberg . That said . One thing I understand about TikTok is that all music and all sound fits and like she said , the first strategy which is creating content yourself might just work better if you have the time and creativity. There are certain videos I come across on TikTok and the only thing making the video be on the ForYouPage will be either a funny high hat played on a song or a certain 8 seconds interlude in another song or maybe a 12 second funny part that the original artist actually don’t like. If you listen to your music and are able to do some crazy stuffs using just like 5 seconds of it, you’ll be surprise how fast people will accept it

Make videos that look like the cats are singing! Find a way to make memes from clips of your own songs, too! The goal is the get others to feel inspired to use your content to create their own content, helping you get traction with very little effort :)
