The CEOs of TikTok, Discord, Snap, Meta and X, formerly known as Twitter to testify before a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on online child sexual exploitation
@@fazelok You're misleading us. They're located in many countries, they're incorporated in the cayman islands, and they're 67% owned by western companies.
@@YadoOrTAEso shouldn’t their parents be held accountable? To check what their kids are doing or watching all the time is a parents responsibility, not TikTok or any other platform.
Unpopular opinion: parents NEED to stop blaming tech companies and celebrities for their children’s bad behaviour. They’re your children not theirs, your children are your responsibility nobody else’s.
@@HulkVahkiin....es ist unfassbar, wie die Gesellschaft mit ihrer Intelligenz runter gefahren ist....sie verstehen nichts, durch tiktok und ähnliches....und die Konzerne, ja, amerikanische, fördern es.
Absolutely. Feeling invincible and entitled individuals but their brain is as equal to an empty shell. Blaming and naming others BUT they can't named themselves whose responsible for the wars in middle east COUNTRIES, Russia and Ukraine and many other countries.
Honestly, I'm glad I'm not a social media CEO. Because if I was, my answer to most questions would be to "Senator, please go educate yourself on the matter before you ask dumb questions with utmost confidence".
I want there internet CEOs to talk with these senators about the American military actions around the world everywhere, and how many children died because of it, thanks.
I think you didn’t understand what happened in the video. These people raised great questions which are supposed to be asked. Is technology greater than humanity? And is technology greater than our politics? We will soon find out. These words are said by my bublin. They are only ones who can save us from these evil tech companies
Just say you only look China part. LOL they don't even believe Mark Zuckerberg and why would they believe China apps. Don't forget China don't allow any major Non-china app in their country.
Senator, are you pretending to be concetend about the well being of the American childrem, while in fact you only want to remove TikTok so Americans won’t be able to the ongoing masacre ib Gaza?!
American way of questioning 1) Asked a question 2) Refused to let the party answer 3) Present his own viewpoint to his own question and draw a conclusion from that 4) Gives himself a pat on the back for "checkmate"
Man I feel bad for Shou Chew, he's always getting all the heat from second one and is being treated like a toddler and a spy at the same time. His ability to stay calm and explain himself is something most wouldn't have in this situation.
I understand what the Senators are talking about. Yes, the internet is a bad place but they don't care about any of that. All they care about is power, money, and themselves.
If Mr Cotton talks like that to his children, I would guess that his children would much prefer spending time watching TikTok than listening to his 'questions'. 😅
what if some of these parents come from disadvantaged backgrounds, struggling to get by, and lacking the time, education, or capacity to supervise their children's social media usage or even comprehend such concerns? (some don't even know what social media is, let alone monitor it). Are they to be condemned? There's more nuance to this and pointing fingers won't help solve the problem, and like many other systemic issues, it's not as straightforward as it might seem from a privileged point of view. Social media algorithms prioritise content based on user engagement (what we like, share, comment, click, view) which does have some benefits, but it can also result in echo chambers where users are predominantly exposed to viewpoints that reflect and reinforce their own beliefs. So for example, if you're feeling suicidal, are exposed to and get recommended others' people hopeless and depressing content while on these platforms, you're in a very vulnerable spot, especially as a teen.
same thing happened to the Robert J Oppenheimer, Even though he did everything for America in ww2 yet he had to face court trials for having relation with german lady
So its not their parents responsibility to look at what their children doing ? If child is young and not capable of understanding what to do and don't then it is parents responsibility to not give access for internet Its not just social media its everywhere on internet We can't blame ceo of any company for this
Exactly..that is why this court makes no sense. Totally embarrassing themselves making no sense. How do you find a person guilty when you don't give him the chance to speak. When there is a question there is always be an answer but in this circumstance there's none. The accuser have no chance to answer all allegations. Senator is acting childish
That's because many of the questions were simple yes or no but the CEOs want to ramble on about what they've done what they're going to do and yada yada yada
I worked to help try and raise awareness and take down as much as I could and reported accounts to the fbi until I physically couldn’t because it would literally make me sick. It’s an absolute nightmare. I don’t have TikTok anymore and I will never load it again because of the very dark but very accessible side of TikTok. $4 billion annually on human trafficking in the United States. If they can work together and help get that number down I’m all for it. It mirrors the dark web and it makes me sick and angry.
I believe Mr. Cotton's speech was initially intended by senators' in order to make dialogue progressively aggressive and the main goal was to make sure the presidents ended up getting angry and making mistakes by telling wrong and emotional answers over time.I believe It was all planned beforehand. And if you see closely, every senator's first statement started with emotional questions.Kudos to the Mr. Shou. If you seeing this comment you should've already written a book about human psychology.
Cotton is asking for his opinions on world leaders that have nothing to do with tiktok. He kept pushing for a narrative he tries to paint with not many relevant questions.
I'm from southeast asia closer to singapore, nothing's wrong with the question by american senator, he knew exactly the chinese in singapore were immigrants from china in Malay's native land called Singapore. Many CCP operated and infiltrated through their chinese descendants in all over southeast asia countries, chinese descendants hold economic keys in southeast asia, they helped china in selling china's products in southeast asia. Yes Cotton knew what he was talking, after i googled him i didn't surprised that he was a former military officer. Hope you learn something now
The point is they are at blane cause its pretty easy to by pass their parenting softs and as the first guy said, expose kids to enough violence and negative stuff they will end up taking their life
:Ban alchole ? :No!, consumers are responsible :Ban fastfood : No!, consumers are responsible :Ban social media :yes,CEO IS RESPONSIBLE The double standards is insane
Noo noo Padilla brought himself fine. It was just that first guy, he needs to be removed form Senate. We cant have people that wont listen to the person he's questioning, and putting words in their mouths, as someone in senate.
@@drjordan5706 no, it doesn't exits. and not only in alqhamale's brain, but in the right half of every brain. Intelligence is reserved for the left half of the brain. Emotion is reserved for the right half. There is a bridge between the two sides, but it too does not contain emotional intelligence.
Because they don’t have enough time. we are humans, we attract to dopamine, these social medias gives our human brain dopamine, therefore we are addicted to it. Most parent won’t be able to have 24/7 care of their child because of work and school their child goes, when addictive products are so easily available while their parents are out of control of their child , humans go for it. If a parent has 24/7 control over their child, it causes rebellion which then makes it worse
Someone pointed out the answer to that kind of question would be like "why would you complain about thieves when it is your responsibility taking care of your own property?". I guess it is kinda accurate.
Mr, Tills was the only one who was not biases on stand to the creators. This is what we need in a president a human who empathizes with the people seeings the situation from all views then settings his standard in a respectful manner. Please run for president 2028 TILLS
I agree. I wonder if the gun shooting death toll stats on children is even comparable to social media related deaths? I mean both issues are terrible but the levels concern just seem a bit warped.
That's what I've been saying. I understand that a parent can't be with a child all the time, but at the end of the day, it's your responsibility and not tech companies.
Are all senator hearing like this? Saw Google CEO of 5 yrs back and FB Too. Like it's so embarassing. Reminds me of some illiterate politicians of my country but those aren't given in charge of dealing with international affairs or those effecting nation security. So that's atleast bit better
the senators after cotton were more fine but none of the social media representatives were as bad as cotton that dude was embarrassing and therefore the social media representatives as a whole were more professional@@thewiseowl8804
Let’s count how many times Chow was cut off or spoken over in the middle of his response. It seems that not once he was allowed to properly finish a sentence without being cut off or spoken over by this rude senator.
Not only that but the gall he demand that Chow have to get deported is just baffling. Like bruh, that is basically making him have to be away from his own family
@@IpKenneth There must be a purpose for this "show" like these companies have to pay a certain amount of money to the US government or something. Some of these questions just can't be answered and I'm sure they know this too, which is why they picked those questions to ask.
Nobody GETS to blame a parent for not parenting, unless they are parenting so bad that the child is in danger. It's a problem that these companies are EXPLOITING the bad parenting by making the only source of joy/serotonin found within their apps.
Nah , the parents I believe have tried their best or should I say do their part to supervise their children . Maybe the only way is to restrict the children age of using the app. I guess the ceo of the company has to restrict the age of 20 and below from using the app
@@iscrampad2194He clearly is. He’s treating this “hearing” as a way to push his own personal views, rather than make any substantial ground. He’s not concerned about the youth, he’s concerned with keeping his position.
@@petronellamerrick740 Im 33 with plenty of friends who have kids. There are plenty of responsible parents out there, mindblowing, right? There is no valid reason at all that kids should have access to social media.

Its not that my parents don't have money to buy me a phone they just want to keep us safe...
Dear senator, should you call these CEO from Toyota, WV, BMW, Honda, Mercedes....etc for hearing too! Everyday there are people lost their life in road accidents. Why still allow car on the road. Seriousely to consider riding horses instead of driving!
When parents blame companies for the behavior of their own children, this tells you more about society than any of these companies' responses. If parents don't know how to employ measures to protect their children online, they should educate themselves, look for resources or not get children in the first place. Having children isn't all roses and gold, it's hard work - keep that in mind before you decide to have intercourse unprotected.
The top comments in )))Guardian((( videos are fallacies like whataboutism. Yes, parents should do better but that is not any excuse for social media giants to do their wrong doings.
Okay. What about school and their "friends"? Evil has many connections. The internet can be an amazing, useful tool when it's under the right supervision. What we need is advanced technology that can detect this kinda stuff and flag it as inappropriate and remove it immediately, while surveying the user who posted the miscreant content so it can be further prevented.
It seems that many comments in )))Guardian((( videos are fallacies like whataboutism. Yes, parents should do better but that is not any excuse for social media giants to do their wrong doings.
How can a social media Ceo be responsible for people's ill intentioned behaviours? Doesn't that be the responsibility of the parents and the country's lawmakers and enforcers to mitigate that?
Weapons of mass destruction don't only come in the form of physical weapons. Social media has destroyed this country and especially the youth in so many ways that ur brain can't even comprehend. The algorithm I'm these apps and platforms is there to serve a purpose. Tik tok in China is the complete opposite of the tik tok here in the US.
That’s why lawmakers are stepping in with this hearing. At the very least, these lawmakers are exposing how the industry works and how it can unfortunately affect young and impressionable people. Why this hearing and others are important is because as a society we should be our brother’s keepers. That’s why there are social services like foster care, food banks, etc because where people in society fall short the vulnerable should still be protected. That doesn’t give people excuse but young people, especially those who have irresponsible or very ill-informed parents, still need to be safeguarded.
@@ulvigarayev I agree with you. I think that's the real problem. Maybe they will have to ask themselves this question! What made children no longer listen to their parents and what made parents lose their authority?
While it's their parents fault social media platforms took advantage of that the main and root problem it's the parents because without that room for the CEOs they'll never make content or engagement techniques for children
