At 9:15 you marked around the waste pipe and two copper pipes, then you marked and cut out the necessary shape. You seemed to get a good smooth semi-circle to fit the waste pipe. Can someone tell me how to get a good cut like this please. I have seen a hand tile saw. Not sure if they work well? Multiple cuts with the electric tile saw will not necessarily give a smooth finish.
James love that you call your level the buble 😂 worked with a guy and he had a name for everything, here a few of em so hed say pass us the Gary neville - Level Mike myers - pliers Kier stammer - hammer Box of frogs - Dogs Rats tails - Nails Bertie magoos - screws He was nuts 🤣 And if he needed a wee hed say im nipping for a quick matt le tiss 👍🤣
Watching this video has confirmed that I will not be tiling my own floor. You made this very clear and straightforward-however, your skillset is not mine. Much respect for the level of detail involved with this work. I will happily pay a professional for my project. Many thanks! Cheers:)
Observations 😉 When did a soil stack become an official anchor point for a sun sail? That number plate... bit on the Wonk eh? Why no "credits" for your long suffering camera woman...? And lastly... get on with it. I bet your camera woman can't wait for this one to be finally finished so you can (at last) finally have a bloody shave. You scruffy git. 😂 That aside ... starting to look good but then it should after all this time 😛
I was always told that you should only scribe once to keep the cut perfectly straight. Admittedly I was training with an expert professional tiler though. It would normally be at huge mansions or hotel lobbies etc. You could barely see which was the cut edge. The wet blade and snap cutter he always used were made by Rubi which are pretty expensive. Since then I’ve tiled many kitchens and bathrooms and this video is pretty much the way I do it. Harder than it looks and correct adhesive for subfloor is vital. Great video as always.
My biggest tip when tiling, is not to go and wash your brand new car with the same sponge you grouted the floor with, especially when the car is black.
As a retired htg eng, just watched this programme for entertainment, 1st class, learned bundles, tiling for me always a pain, in my own house I always recess radiator tails in wall, saves cutting floor covering materials tiles, carpet etc, no obstructions for skirting installation, vacuum, mops etc, I’m now hooked on your series, as a heating engineer, i am only a handyman Plumber, an aspect I have trouble explaining to folk, look forward to more.
Thanks. A good watch. If I may just stick my two penneth in then screwing a batten to the floor where your laser line is helps a lot as you can then just butt the tiles up to the batten without fear of them "crossing the line". Even though we all love to cross the line at times😬
Just something I've always done is when grouting, I run the sponge over at an angle so it doesn't take anything out, and a neater finish. keep up with the great work
I keep my big 10 litre paint tubs for mixing grout, (after washing out 🙄) The square edge of the tub makes mixing easier, the handle is nice! The snap on lid stores grout and adhesive in an airtight way once you have finished 😎
@@plumberparts 30cm!! l thought it was 300mm or 12" as my old dad would have said!!! Enjoyed the video, hate tiling walls and floors but hay ho saves getting a tiler in and the money goes in my pocket!!!!
Can someone help. I want to do my toilet downstairs which has got carpet in at the moment but what do I need to do to prepare the floor? Someone said I need to coat it in PVA
Hi Rob, you can buy the IMPEY shower roll directly from them. So plywood the floor first over the old floorboards (6mm is fine) then shower roll then tile. 👍
This is great..thanks so much. Will be tiling my bathroom floor shortly and was really, really nervous. Especially as I have to tile a level access shower tray. Anyway, I am still fairly nervous but now I can watch your video throughout. Thanks also for the video about installing the Vitra Comfort toilet and infrared flush. I always learn things and have a laugh too.
Great video. Seems you take more care than an actual tiler! 25:58 I notice you say you sponge off the residue 6 or 7 times. My tiler seemingly didn’t do this and there’s a white dusty residue everywhere on the walls that won’t come off despite me washing it down several times over the last year. It doesn’t look too bad but I can see it and it annoys me. Is there anything I can do about that? Thanks man
@@samwilliams3248 I never new it either but diluted white vinegar and a paper towel, 2 or 3 passes and dry off with paper towel works. One of the old boys shown me
Do you have a video when you prepare the flor ? My concern is that it will move and the tiles will crak . What bord thickness do you recommend? . Thank you for the video .I've went back and I've seen that you have a video. Cheers
I used 6 mm concrete board by knauf over the wooden floorboards .They do a 6 mm for floor 12 mm for wall to replace plasterboard. Glued with fleixble adhesvie to the wooden floor boards and screwed every 6 inches( careful of pipes). Then flexible adhesvie for the tiles. Done ten years ago and not any cracking. It is a great product .
Being a plumber has changed over the years. There was a time when tiling would never be done by the plumber. But to do a complete job these skills have to learnt. Conversely. Lead flashings, zinc gutters, and that kinda roof work has been given up to the roofing boys. And they are welcome to it. I'm not getting up ladders anymore.
I have zero skills or knowledge however I’ve only ever scored the tile once and always been happy with the results. Always very clean. I do put a fair bit of pressure on.
All very nice but no damp membrane? Under floor electric heating? Why isn't the plaster board of the blue type (for bathrooms) steam and lots of condensation?
Am looking to tile my upstairs bathroom floor, firstly what do I put down on the floor board before adhesive, secondly my shower tray is going on legs do I tile before the installing the tray or after
Unless I've missed it you don't say what the graph paper or whatever it is that your laying the tile on. I can see impey written on it. Is that padded or spongey to take impact especially if laying on concrete?
lolll watch all the video ,thank you i have to tile my bathroom also ,but the ending of your video was hilarious i laugh my ass off, did not expect the sexy modelling of your tools ,your awesome bro , cheers.
Not sure if anyone uses this method but taking the bottom of the door frame out with a multitool means you can slide the tile underneath rather than cutting round it 😉
Just saying and not being a know it all lol but you should only score the once with the tile cutter. You get a much neater cut. Doing it 3 times damages the cut. Just saying incase someone has a go themselves. Brilliant vid tho matey.
Should always do your research on who’s going to do the work in your house, never just let a sub of a sub of Home Depot do that shit with out ever seeing there work.
Dont know why youve worked off of the back wall going towards the door, we always would center off of the entrance door first and make the cuts along the backwall
When tiling all walls and floor in bathrooms and toilets, is it common practice to also have a tile skirt board? No skirt board at all or wooden skirt board? Thanks
Sorry to sound stupid but your are tiling up the bathroom towards the window is this a reason for this as I was planning to tile across the bathroom, is it just personal taste so to speak bud ??
As a tiler by trade, tiling is definitely harder than it looks especially if your not familiar with it or think il just do it myself youl be in for a shock.
Always try and avoid tile cuts less than 100mm. Also please please remember tiling off a centerline will not always work in some cases. Best to show as much of full tiles especially in a small areas. This after checking walls are square. Do all this and you will never be short on tiles. 👍😎😁
I am a 62 year old grandmother who wants to do her own tiling. I have just been quoted £500 to tile around my bath, so thought I'd do it myself. I found the video fascinating. What is the grid on the floor? You mentioned it at the end... that you had put down hardboard then????. I've subscribed so now need to catch up on the rest of your videos. Thank you for explaining step by step what to do and the tools and methods needed.
It's called Impey Waterguard. I would suggest a bit overboard for a bathroom floor as it's actually a wet room tanking membrane. And expensive. If you have a timber floor, screw down some 6mm James Hardie Backer Boards (Same stuff as he has put on his walls) and tile onto those. Bomb proof and cheap.
Discovered this channel as I enrolled for a Level 1 Plumbing & Heating Diploma Course and I think you might've jumped in my top 3 favourite RU-vidrs. Liked and subscribed, thanks.
I've been a tiler for around 17yrs and cannot fault your method at all. Back buttering is a must especially with the tile levelling system which will slightly lift the tile once tightened. Great job!
Yeah 17yrs! What scoring 3 times or using the wet cutter backwards. If it works for him then that's OK by me. I was actually commenting on his method of laying.
Why do you lay a membrane if its not a wet room , I have floorboards in my bathroom what is the best thing to lay is it 5mm ply? Lovely job and very helpful
The old standard was minimum of 15mm ply over floorboards, so 18mm ply. Seal the underside and edges and prime the top side. Not compliant to British Standards or TTA any longer but it works and will last for years unless you buy cheap ply from China. Better to use a tile backer board laid on adhesive and screwed down. You can get away with Ditramat if you know what you are doing, but I certainly wouldn't recommend that method for a DIY install.
That was absolutely hilarious at the end…Never laughed so much. What a fantastic and informative video, massive appreciation all the way from Northern Ireland (The sunniest part of the UK lol) Subscribed!
I'm sorry, you got like 50% coverage at 18:33, ridges are not even collapsed. Probably your trowel is too small for such large tile. This is how near 100% looks like: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AaP1uA6FIQE.html
I have subscribed to your channel few years back and I am still impressed!! I love marmite but I love you more!! Not sure where that comes from !!! ahahaha!!!!
The Ox tile spacers are only 1mm thick, yet the finished gap looks larger than this. I'm about to start a tiling job with these spacers but can't imagine it's very easy to grout a 1mm gap. Do my eyes deceive me?
1)Such a waste of labor time to cut tiles under bath. Instead of charging customer extra time for cutting tile, I you could just tile a hole tile. 2) you score the tile just once!!! 3) you don't use water to drill holes, you damage the drill. 4) there is actually a special jig for that drill bit. It can very easily slip and scratch the tile.
Stick with the Awesome plumber you are Tile cutter should require ONE gentle score ( do not press hard ) Then crack or with the breaker bar For a perfect cut
Great job. Just 1 question as I'm going to be tiling my bathroom soon. I am going to put down plywood over my wooden floor. (tounge and groove) and it seems you have a material down in this video. What's your best way over wood floor? and how do u stick the paper / damp proof down? Are you using anything special? 😊 Thank you. Dan
Nice video but WAY too much prepping. But if you're on a day rate then happy days. Theres no reason to lay out the tiles before you mix - with bigger jobs you will be wasting a lot of time - just take you're measurements and you will be rocking in no time.
