I have an old partial tear from 6 years ago, it retracted about a finger gap, maybe a finger gap and a bit and have a strong hook test but the hospital told me to just rest it. As a labourer it’s been getting worse over the years. Does anyone have any experience in having these fixed with surgery? I see my surgeon who did my full rupture Monday (4 months post op, fully recovered) Thanks

Hi Guys! and thank you for making the video. Can I ask what makes it certain that is is a partial tear and not a tendonitis, if pushing the radial tuberosity results in tenderness and pain? Many things can cause inflamation. (I am currently suffering from this myself that is why I am asking)

Thank you for sharing this test. I have pain at the anterior elbow that is worse with forearm flexion x10 months . The pain started during 3 months of levofloxacin--known to increase risk of tendon tears. Negative hook test, adn I dont think there is any complete tear. I want to use KT tape to support it, but I'm not sure how to differentiate from distal Radialis, distal Brachoradialis and distal Biceps tendon issues. What tests would do this?

Tendons need load to recover. Would recommend to start biceps curling with low weights with a maximum pain of 4/10 on the NPRS. Then slowly increase the weight as pain allows.

I had a bad fall 6 yrs ago and had the long arm tendon torn off the shoulder. I had this horrible pain come on 7 months ago in shoulder only. It got better. Now 8 months later it is from the shoulder to the elbow. I an in severe pain. Had to put arm in sling. The specialist said the tear was gone. Now the bicep has problems. Can't figure out why it came back inflamed going down to elbow. Any ideas?

As a counterpoint, I found this video a few weeks ago after I tore mine from doing chin ups. Went to an orthopedic surgeon to get evaluated. Couldn't suppinate or pronate without pain for the first few days. It got better, and was told to recuperate for 2 weeks for re-evaluation. Anyways, I found this test online around that time and tried it myself, and I did not have a positive tilt sign. If anything, I can feel some pain on palpation when in full supination and I press in between the radius and ulna towards the radius bone. But it varies. So, to update, I had an MRI last week, then the results reported on Weds showed 95% tear of the distal biceps tendon. I go into surgery tomorrow. So, in sum , I tested negative on tilt sign test, but actually have almost near complete tear of this tendon. I would question the 100% specificity.

@@Physiotutors For sure, but just to clarify, I found this video a day after I hurt myself. To be extra clear, after I hurt myself, I was able to see a doctor the next day. He gave me the 2 week rest period to re-evaluate. I then did more research that day and found the research paper online and read through it. To be fair, even the orthopedic surgeon thought I only had a low grade partial tear. So, it's always best to follow up with an imaging study.

Hi and thanks for the upload. According to my physio I passed 2 out of the 3 tests for NOT having fully ruptured my tendon (distal). I still have good strength and my bicep has only slightly moved up my arm. He struggled to locate my tendon, but said this may be the result of swelling. My arm is badly bruised and still tender after 6 days. I will see my physio again in two days. I went back to gym yesterday and was able to chest press, OHP, tricep kick backs, front and side raises, bent over and seated rows...all with fairly light weights. Do you think I would be able to perform these movements if I had fully ruptured my tendon and if so, should I then be avoiding the gym completely? I'm eager to get back at it. Thanks for any advice.

Torn muscles are usually indicated by movement of the muscle away from a portion of the bone and tendons. If you have no bruising it could be a slight strain or sprain. I'm working through a strain myself. I just went to pick a dumbbell off the floor to set up for my exercise and my elbow snapped causing a pain on the distal portion of the elbow where the bicep connects and then pain at the forearm. Preventing me doing any curls or outer rotary movements of the wrist

I feel so out of place with all you weight lifter body builder types! I’m a 70 yr old lady and I tore my distal bicep tendon lifting a small ottoman to vacuum under it. It made a ripping noise followed by a loud pop, then of course bruised under forearm. Dr thought it was a partial tear and has been watching it since April when it happened. I know I’m old but this has been hard to deal with!, no lifting anything for 2 months and since then not more than 10 lbs. i haven’t been able to take care of my house, grand kids or hobbies since it happened.it is still very swollen,red and painful. I am sch for an MRI ( finally) and wonder if I’ve been blown off cause of my age and gender. All the anecdotal stories I hear are dealt with promptly. L

So, it’s been year since I had the mri that showed a ruptured bicep tendon. I was being treated conservatively from April until Oct. I had it surgically repaired right away. Did very well, no pain pills taken and no prob from the beginning with pt. So, those of you that diagnose this, maybe get mri sooner no matter what the age or shape. It turned out that I had psoriatic arthritis that causes tendons to fail... was diagnosed with it a few months after rupture and the surgeon or the rheumatologist put it together. Just another thing to think about.

I went to move a kiddie pool 3 weeks ago, and felt "something". I lifted 2 days later, dumbbell benches, and dumbbell curls, my regular routine. I noticed bruising accross my inner forearm in 2 places that got progressively worse. I noticed a lump between my forearm where I believe the distal tendon attaches. The bruising is almost gone after 2 weeks, but lump is still there. I lifted tonight, just dumbbell benches, no curls. It felt a little funny in the inner elbow at times. I never had any bicep bruising. Going in to Sports Med next Tues, hope to press for MRI. Any thoughts.

Physiotutors Omg, please help, I'm panicking again. So, in February this year on an arm day, I went heavy (with good form though, however my biceps were roast, and somewhat heavy exercises such as "chinups on the pulldown" (underhand grip pulldowns). Had a huge pump. During my workout I also spotted someone bench press, with underhand grip - oh god what an idiot I am - but didn't feel anything wrong). Fast forward after my workout, pump was great, went home with veins all over arms. So I started flexing in front of the mirror and I heard a somewhat loud pop coming from my elbow (distal biceps tendon). I didn't feel anything wrong, or pain, but I certainly panicked when I saw there was a bigger gap between my left bicep ending and inside of the elbow. I freaked out, as I thought this was probably a tear. Cried myself to sleep (as I couldn't do anything - I am 16 and I was staying alone for 1 week or so because my parents were out of the country). Before going to sleep, as I said, my bicep didn't look normal at all, it was deformed and the lower end of it had "deflated" and was soft and with a bigger gap. However no brusings, no pain, no inflammation. Next day, I woke up and immediately checked my biceps and it was the same size as before and shape, had again no bruisings or pain. I still freaked out majorly though. Took a week-two weeks off from the gym, and my parents told me that it was alright when they came back because as I said, it was back to normal shape and it was "hard again" and not deflated. They refused to take me to the doc because I was overreacting, apparently, as they said. I tried to forget everything about that, but it still bothers me that I might have cause injury and since I didn't treat it in the first two weeks (partial tear of distal biceps tendon - left arm? Is it possible?) I will be damaged for life. Now fast forward currently, I started panicking again as my curiousity lead me to watch videos such as yours, and others' along with digging into research and panicking over symptoms. Despite my bicep being normal-shaped now, it feels weird when I do pulldowns (completely left the underhand grip behind to be sure). it feels like it's not stable 100% and some jiggling in my left arm (nerve being dislocated and jiggling or tendon?). Pull-ups are fine though. So Ik this is long, but please reply to me. I have nobody else to seek help.
@t3rm1nat0rxii2
@t3rm1nat0rxii2 6 лет назад
Like a weird sensation in my arm towards the elbow part of it (inside - tendon? and along the left bicep, nerve?) when I do pulldowns. I tried the hook test, but my tendon is normal. That day though before going to sleep, I couldn't feel the tendon that's also why I freaked out. Now what do I do? Please help

I don't believe I have any loss of strength though (despite now being kinda light, both my arms are the same in terms of strength) and I certainly have no loss of function. Could it be a partial tear? About the test in this video I will try it later again and hopefully I will have a result, but please read all the things I wrote and respond. I need help on what it was-is, and what to do.
