Thank you so much to review and make me discover this. Got one and appreciate it. My first Reate knife, first tanto too. I love the sleek design, without any visible pivot, neither thumbstuds/flipper/holes, and especially love the 2 edges with one grind blade. Il don't like so much blades with different grinds too much visible. It's a matter of taste. The global finishing is really good, same as the action out of the box.I had to strope it a little bit with my finest compound, but hadn't to add lube. Not disappointed with this Reate manufacturing. It's quite big for my medium hands, the handle is quite long in order to hide the thick blade when it's closed. Quite on the heavy side too (5.19 oz, 147 g with mine), even with micarta version. But so great feeling in hand. I could have little complains about the linerclock access (but it serves the design), the tiny stop pin (seems weak to me) and the fact i can reach the blade edge with my finger, between the liners above the back spacer when the knife is closed. Not a deal breaker for me but people must be warned about that. A "not tanto version" shouldn't have this issue because of the belly. In Europe, it cost less than the cheapest last Jack Wolf knives i got (micarta) and love too. I don't compare cabbages and cars, but I think they don't abuse on the price.

My Mad Tanto Kaizer with less than $90 is also China as a flipper tab and button lock,by Damn Designs it's one of the best Micarta because it's shaped and sculpted.

My personal opinion on the flipper situation is that a front flipper, by itself, is the best option. If the knife maker can't make a good front flipping action, they should make the flipper longer instead of adding a secondary opener. If you look at some of the knives from Katsu, you'll see decent examples of what I'm suggesting. It's not a "flick it open" knife by any means, but I can easily open it by just moving my index finger in a sort of circular motion. I hate thumb studs because most of them are in a spot where they just get in the way. Cutouts are just another tiny spot that needs attention during cleaning, so I'd rather not have those. I'm also not a fan of stuff sticking out in front of the cutting edge, so normal flippers irritate me.

I'd want one, but there's two things I don't like here: 1) lanyard hole and 2) tanto. It'd be better if the hole wasn't there and the pocket clip was backed up. I also would rather have a spearpoint or drop point blade. A blade shape like the Spyderco Native or Shaman would be ideal for me. Yeah, I've gotten really picky. I think I'm in the phase of pocket knife collecting where I'm overly critical and stingy with my money.
