Great interview! It just revealed what a wonderful man he was! I am a UMich alum and fan, and Bobby was my favorite coach of all time! We will miss you Bobby, dad gum it!!
Yes Bobby was one hell of a coach and even better man in general. I too am a Canes fan and have much respect for Bobby. Loved and miss the games Bobby had with the canes.
He always. Had good character. And showed his players how a person should behave. He wasn't a bragger. He seldom,if ever lost his temper and was a goid sport even when he lost he wasn't a cry baby about it. O might say I thought we got done a little wrong on that call but that's football he would say and move on to somthing. Else he often would say we just got beat by a good team that's all And when he won he would say. Well we got kinda lucky beating that team even though you know it wasn't luck at all. Bobby was just good people that's all,,, and a damn good coach too,,,.
The greatest coach. Played everybody, ducked nobody. If we’d ducked Florida like the Hurricanes did, we’d have five championships. If we’d ducked Miami like Florida did, we’d have eight.
What you said about Coach Bowden ( RIP) not ducking anybody is correct but you're DEAD WRONG about Miami ducking Florida when it was the other way around! Florida DECIDED to end annual match up after the 1987 game because of what they said was the SEC scheduling. Get the FACTS right.
FSU should be ashamed for how they handled Bobby Bowden's exit for their university.. For he's done there the man deserved to go out on his own not pushed out
As a Nole I completely agree. It was disgraceful. I actually skipped the Jimbo Fisher years. Jimbo was the reason he was forced out. And now we see how that all ended. I am a die hard Nole but could have cared less during the Jimbo years. Bobby never came back during Jimbo years. Now a days Taggart has him there as much as possible. Taggart is also a die hard Nole. Hoping he brings back some love for those Bobby years. Seems like he is doing that. Jimbo wanted to carve out his own thing...Jimbo is an asshole. Professionally and on a personal level. Glad he is gone.
DedHedJosh I agree with you, first I am a canes fan but have much respect for Bobby and yes it was terrible how they pushed Bobby out the way they did. I’ve always thought jumbo was a snake and I was right what a douche bag. Wish Bobby the best in his retirement for sure. What a man and coach.
The greatest times in my life was when I was growing up and going to football camp every summer at Florida State University in the mid 80’s and early 90’s. He talked more about living a good life than football. He is such a first class man of the Lord.
I first met Coach Bowden in 1989 in Ocala, Fl. I was a sponsor of Bobby's Annual Booster Golf Tournament. I drove Coach as we played our round, it was filled with a lot of laughs, and he played a decent game. On the 10th hole Coach's tee shot slipped into a bunker along side a stream. Lying 10-15 ft away lay a full grown bull Gator. As Coach addressed his ball the Gator "Hissed" at him, naturally startling him. Bobby didn't miss a beat, looking my way he simply said, "Ain't that just like a daggum gator?" Just one of many "Bowdenisims" over the years of me having the privilege to knowing a real man, a man of God, a man who loved his players. I miss you Coach.
His life and philosophy as a husband and father were as much an influence on my love for Coach Bowden as his philosophy and talent as a coach. Long live that legacy and Go Noles!!
As a southeastern conference homer loving Steve Spurrier when he was coaching in Gainesville FL in the 90s Bobby Bowden was a class act in Tallahassee he always had his teams prepared back in late 80s those games verses Miami was must see TV and think how many national championships his Florida state teams could've won if a two point conversation didn't fail plus two field goals back to back
The greatest achievement was to be a good husband father and hopefully in some years to be ag grandfather. Along with being accepted by FSU with a full ride in "ART" I would have been a walk on for Football. So I went to Penn State as a middle linebacker, then was told we want and need you to play Strong Safety. I refused to change my position and was gone faster than a blue tick hound! Saying I'm gonna go to Florida State! Joe said tell me how that works out for you son! Well Arena football was ok "weird" tried it and never played real football again. Meeting Bobby Bowden and him telling me son your going to sit I have too many great linebackers you need to switch positions. I didn't understand why or what he was telling me, until I was out of the game. Jesus helped me to understand that my speed would only take me so far! That I needed Jesus in my life! I changed my ways ever since and have changed several young men's lives not anywhere CLOSE TO BOBBY BOWDEN! Yet I enjoy knowing and interacting with young men in my community from following Bobby Bowden's ideals. I know how much every team has a bond with a coach. REST IN PEACE! NOTHING BUT LOVE FROM THE ROBERTS FAMILY!
God I believe loves football, many young boys life was changed by football into men. By men like coach Bowden who molded them into good father's and husband and some in faith and many rich careers in the NFL.great man, love his attitude, humor.love of God.hope there football in heaven.never no.
The thing that sticks out to me is how stupid the people were running Alabama in 1987 that they chose Bill Curry over Bobby Bowden SMH Alabama could have had Saban level success 20 years before he ever got there because Bobby Bowden is in the same class as Saban and might have surpassed anything we know today had Alabama hired him in 87 . Always loved coach Bowden one of the best to ever do it
In Late Summer of 1976 I lucked into a Financial need based slot at FSU. There was NO way I was going to have time to do anything but study and try to survive academically. One day one of the upper class men at my house told me about this new football coach who had revitalized the whole campus. So several of us walked down Jefferson Street that weekend and into a game. At halftime. And that was that. #LaughingThroughTheTears #MissYouAlwaysCoach
My birthplace was Panama City I'm in a Seminole fans since I was 13 I wish I could have met him when he was down here awesome person not even about the 377 wins it was him as a person as a Christian amen keep resting in peace go Seminoles our Legend
What a great man and coach. So sincere and authentic and charming. I can see why the teams would give it all for him. Great respect from this USC fan. RIP Coach Bowden. Tim, wonderful interview
The H.S. Coach my son played for in high school was just like Bobby Bowden. I would have loved for my son to have played for this great Christian gentleman.
Thank so much for doing and sharing this, so we can enjoy and relive these special and candid moments with y’all! We really appreciate it, you know it, “Dad-Gum It”!!! Love Coach Bowden! My dear Daddy was a huge fan too, he was so glad when Coach Bowden came to Florida State, but sadly died with a massive heart attack Dec 22nd, 1980 at the young age of 49! He would have loved the next 30 years of Coach Bowden FSU Football Dynasty Wilbur Jr & Ms Loyce, Crawfordville, FL 🏈❤️👏
I am a Tennessee Fan but Bowden being another Conference I could cheer for his team. Except one year 1998 when we met each other for the National Championship. And they didn’t let me down. They played well for being without their starting QB. See when you finally win one. You want to play a team that has a Dynasty or lest then they did. Well both problems are on their way back. But Coach Bowden you can’t get a better person. I will watch them this season and see how they’re doing.
Coach Bowden was a phenomenal human being who happened to be a pretty good ball coach. I say this as a Miami fan. I pray that he’s up in Heaven coaching in the ultimate ball games with a kicker that can make a clutch kick. RIP Coach Bowden.
Thank you Bobby for all the fun you provided to my mom and I over all the years. We attended games together for years. Thank you for doing it the right way. Thank you to Ann and family for your sacrifices to allow Bobby to chase his dreams so long.
