This song made me weep watching the lovely bones. I actually said crying watching the film "why did the pick this song?" This song means so much to me.
@@margateswede He actually wrote all the lyrics. In Becketts own words, "I only saw him actually compose to my lyrics once, and it was 'Song To The Siren.' He looked at that page, which had only taken me a few minutes to write, days before, and started playing and singing the song as if it was already written. He made some minor adjustments and it was complete. We were astonished."
Even if Tim had written this (which he didnt; see other comments below), it is unlikely that he would have written it for Jeff. His "marriage was tumultuous and when [Mary] Guibert became pregnant, Buckley found himself neither willing nor able to cope with marriage and fatherhood. The couple divorced in October 1966, about a month before their son, Jeff Buckley, was born." (Wikipedia) He was largely absent from Jeffs life. Jeff himself acknowledged this. Besides, the lyrics are clearly about romantic love, not paternal.
