FILM SYNOPSIS♡
In 18th-century Maine, Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp) presides over the town of Collinsport. A rich and powerful playboy, Barnabas seals his own doom when he breaks the heart of a witch named Angelique (Eva Green). Angelique turns Barnabas into a vampire and buries him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas escapes from his tomb and finds 1972 Collinsport a very different place. His once-grand estate has fallen into ruin, and the dysfunctional remnants of his family have fared little better.

The vomit was a nod to Exorcist. Angelique is a witch. She cursed the whole Collins family because they wouldn't approve of her being with Barnabas(Johnny) She made Chloe a werewolf, and cursed the house. Eva Green also plays Miss Perrigrine in the Movie Miss Perrigrines School for Peculiar Children and was good in that and also in Penny Dreadful.

Birthing hips was the polite way (in his time) of saying she's got a fat ass, since they thought wider hips made giving birth easier, which it does to a certain extent, but it's not a 1 to 1. Honestly, for a guy from that time who was trapped in a box with his own thoughts for decades, he's way LESS creepy than I'd expect.

She was a werewolf the whole time, all the sexual jokes made about her were alluding to that fact. “Lady of the night” “She makes noises at night” it was very subtle though.

Vomit was a reference to rosemary’s baby, the sheet ghost I think was a Beetlejuice reference, the road scene after he first wakes up is a Hocus pocus one and there are so many more throughout

i love this movie! my only complaint with it is how little importance is given to HBC’s character when in the original tv show, her character was Barnabas’ only true friend. however i would’ve loved a sequel to this movie with vamp Julia Hoffman coming back

Well it did fine financially, just received criticism cause clearly the original Dark Shadow series were quite dark and serious so a comedic version is not something fans would digest well. The makers never even planned on to make a sequel anyways, the ending with Doctor Hoffman was just a little spice they added. I do wish that there was a sequel though. The cast was actually really good and there was a chance that Angelique might also return cause even in original series she was hard to get rid off.

Love this movie, it's just fun, light movie. And the humor is great - "time travellers" jokes always gets me, I know Barnabas is not technically a time traveller, but you know what I mean, you put some present ideas in old times context or other way around.

Eva Green is in a gothic series called Penny Dreadful! She is amazing in that as well and the show is very moody and has a lot of classic lit characters such as Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, Dracula, werewolves, and witches. 3 seasons, about 8-10 eps each I believe. Eva is also in Miss Pereguines School for Peculiar Children. I don’t think the movie is particularly good, certainly watchable but she is once again fabulous!

Yeah, the new love interest was kinda boring, she just disappears for half the movie then it was like oh yeah by the end. Eva green always great in anything. My fav joke was johnny exclaiming Mephistopheles! At the sight of a McDonald's sign, I always say that now when I pass a mcds lol

I think, rather than thinking of Barnabas as bad because he is a vampire, it would be more correct to think of him as a pathetic anti-hero, the hero of the story who has both bad and good qualities and is someone who we can actually feel sorry for, given his misfortune (in his own eyes) of being cursed to be a vampire, persecuted and then locked in a coffin for nearly two hundred years (poor thing) and having to learn to live in an age that he is neither from nor familiar with. One way of thinking about such ancient vampires having to live in the modern age is that it’s a bit like a (much cooler) old granny or grandpa having to learn to live in the modern age and use iPhones, computers, the internet, etc. The ancient vampires may be so much cooler, but they still need to learn, since, in their time, when they and their brains were still young, learning and developing, there were no computers, iPhones, internet, etc.

I've just discovered your channel within the last 48 hours, so it's a case of playing catch up on your watch sessions. There are so many of these on RU-vid, it's hard to decide who to watch, but I must say your lively and spontaneous responses are entertaining! Also, you pull off the Disney Princess look beautifully! If you liked this vampire tale, I wonder how you'd respond to some of the earlier examples of the genre, such as the Hammer films of the Sixties? Most of the reviewers tend not to travel too far back, probably because their audience is less likely to be familiar with older films, but I think that would be kind of fascinating in itself. Also, try Japanese and Chinese ghost stories. But leave the lights on! 😂😂

Bell doesn't jump off a cliff or do anything that insane to make Edward turn her (I mean, she did jumprd of a cliff once, but for a different reason) She just spent 5 movies basically begging him to turn her, and in yhe fourth one she gets pregnant, but the baby is half vampire so it slowly kills her from the inside and when she finally gives birth her heart stops and Edward turns her so she doesn't die

I love Eva Green in this. Sheçs also great as Artemesia in the 2nd 300 movie. She's vanquished by the hero in that one though that's not historically accurate. American films often weaken the female character. In the original Swedish version of "girl with the dragon tattoo" Lisbeth was a total badass but in the American version they made the male character the alpha. The Swedish version is exactly like the book. It's a trilogy but but they made all 3 films before they released the first one. Noomi Rapace is perfect as Lisbeth. I like her in "prometheus" too. The girl in the American version was scrawny & had an annoying sqeaky voice lol.

Twilight....um, 2008, Dark Shadows 2021. Twilight Bella didnt jump off till the second book , a few months after Edward had left her. She would see him when she would do dangerous stuff. Jacob, the wolf dude got her out of the water. Edward Cullen was the vampire's name.
