Canadian here: I first saw Tim when his full special with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra was on our Netflix around 2015. My jaw literally dropped haha

I've NEVER heard Elton John do things on the piano that Tim Minchin does and he does it while telling complicated and hilarious tales. Maybe EJ does have skills - but TM does it *cooler* .

I love how delighted you get when Tim gets a good slam in on somebody. 😁 Tim's career started taking off around 2005. In 2009 he sold out Queen Elizabeth Hall. It was his 2010 tour, Tim Minchin and the Heritage Orchestra, where he really scaled up and started selling out larger venues like Albert Hall. Also in 2010 Matilda the Musical, which Tim wrote the music and lyrics for, premiered and then moved to West End where it broke records by winning 7 Olivier awards. On Broadway, it got 12 Tony nominations and 4 wins. Tim said in an interview that it was Matilda which earned him big money, making him wealthy enough so that even if he never worked again he could live a modest, comfortable life and put his kids through college. He sort of details his career from playing dives to being a star in Talked Too Much and Stayed Too Long. If you do that one, however, I know you enjoy the live performances but the only live video of that is from a fan at his concert and it's really bad quality. Best to stick with the official vids on his channel. His newest songs, 2020-22, were the first studio album he made. They all have official videos, but he doesn't have any live performances of them on his channel, although he does appear in some of them, such as Leaving L.A., Airport Piano, and 15 Minutes.

Just FYI - Sanga is Australian slang for sandwich. Also, that last little tune, for anyone who doesn't recognise it, is Elton's Song For Guy. I don't think Tim has a beef with Elton, who is a genius himself. If he did, I don't think he'd have included that music.

I see that you scheduled 4 more Tim videos. Don't forget about his "9 life lessons" graduation speech. The video itself is almost 20 minutes, but the actual real portion is only 11 minutes. The rest is just his graduation. He speaks some real meaningful truths during that. I still live by them to this day.

You make me have to respond with such agreement!!!! This to me is one of his best- because it’s so different. Yeah it’s a beat poem buts it’s jazz- and most of all his only song when the title are the final 2 words !! TIM ALWAYS PLAYIN. I RECKON

Elton John is a very gifted performer and songwriter, but simply as a piano player, he's far from a "virtuoso" like Tim. So the stockbroker saying he could be as good at piano Elton one day was a slap to the face to Tim, who's already far superior. I don't think there was ever any actual beef between them, although I'd love to know what Elton thought if he ever heard this song! If you do like Tim's beat poems, I believe there's only one left - "Perineum Millennium". I think it's fair to say it ranks below Storm and Mitsubishi Colt, but definitely worth checking out if you like this style. One other poem of his without music behind it should be higher on your list, namely "Angry (Feet)".

this is a great skit and poem for that matter but better than Storm? maybe Storm just speaks to me more i guess.
