Alot of people don't understand Tim's influence in this era. The fact is that he is SO talented, that most of what he writes becomes Instant Tradition. I can only suggest that listeners loosen up and allow his music to sink in deep. Tim is a walking, talking example of living soul in action. I doubt if anyone could find a better example in the American Pantheon of Old Time Music and expression of that history. Walk on Tim..... hope to see you again soon
My 14 yr old pup named Buddy listend to this with me on our last morning together. Tim your a true musician. I only listen to this on the last day I shared with my Buddy. 8/5. Thank you for the sincerity within your music.
Ah I know the feeling of "that" song as well. I chose to sing Feathered Indians by Tyler Childers to my deaf old man while he passed away. It was because one time after he went deaf, I was emotional over the fact that he used to love my singing, so I sang/screamed the song into his year. Years later we had to say goodbye, so I sang it to him while he lie on my chest. I like to believe that he heard me when his soul was released, and he was released of his mortal illnesses. Sorry to be so sad. Rip Chico 🐾 😊
I’ve been following Tim since his Hot Rise days. Consumate performer and great songs. I started clawhammer because of this video……10 years ago!! Thanks Tim
Tim has one of the sweetest voices in Bluegrass. Perfect pitch and his colouring in his melodies and so unique. Bluegrass needs to evolve. I think Tim is Bluegrass to the bone and is expressing his creativity. Classic Bluegrass is usually a three or four instrument colaboration and only in this has he deviated. Perhaps you were looking for a Scruggs style picking in this offering but the frailing style gives this tune more of a "get along" feel. I like it!!
Some would say that the passing car ruined the shot but I actually like it. It adds some strange flavour of unpredictability to a live shot. Makes it even 'more live', for the lack of better words. Something like a not too aggresive photo bombing.
Tim is by far one of the most talented musicians of our time. Ive seen him with Hot Rize, and solo, he play 4 different instruments on his solo act in one set. Thank God for Tim O'Brien
@@RustyMadd self centered? Maybe they were on a lonesome dirt road and suddenly there were a bunch of grown idiots that should know better standing around in that road. Maybe that person needed to get to work. I know I wouldn't stop. Get another take, or get a permit like your dumb cheap ass should've with the state patrol so they could've blocked the road while you were shooting. The roads for driving on, not standing in. Lucky they all didn't get wiped out by someone hauling livestock. There'd be no stopping.
You know what, maybe they said 'we're going to film this thing and if a truck happens to drive through, on its way to wherever, that's just what happens'.
If you haven't heard it, do check out Tim's 'Look Down That Lonesome Road' performance on the classic Transatlantic Sessions recorded in a Scottish castle.
I first discovered Tim O' on Austin City Limits. Hard to believe it's been that long ago. Saturday night mom giving the kids baths and surfing the tube to find something to watch. I was blown away when the announcer said, "From Boulder Colorado". I had to watch. I was hooked. That's how I got my first banjo. To this day my wife regrets buying it for me for Christmas. I sure have enjoyed their music over the years especially the early stuff. Seems like a life time ago. Those kids have families of there own now. One of my boys plays guitar. Still love to play together. Not often enough though.
I used to see Tim O'Brien at The Strawberry Festival in Yosemite, when it was a bluegrass/folk festival. Now it's gotten more open to musical styles but man it was cool to have face to face contact with all these blue/folkies. Many of the musicians that played the festival would give workshops. It would say Tim O'Brien "claw technique" or "yodeling" workshop 9:30am at the folk in the road. You'd take a thermos of coffee and walk down to either practice banjo or listen to 12 banjo players play together. Really amazing stuff. Long live The Bluegrass Situation!
I’ll never understand people that find this goodness, then feel the need to give a thumbs down. I guess that’s why we have crossed the Florida Georgia Line.. keep it comin , Tim!!!!!!! 1 second ago
Very Nice Like the setting Up there in Gods Country Telluride I live very close to where Y'all shot this had to check the truck that drove by thought I might know who it was,, What can I say Small town some time get large talents to Vist us,, Keep on Pick-em
The Hot Rize version is the same song (excusing the fact that it’s an ensemble rather than one dude, and it features 3-finger banjo rather than clawhammer). He’s never recorded it on a solo album, so…
Great melody and lyrics. I'd also be keen to know the tuning. The version on the new album is the full band version - this one's nice and "simple". Love the setting.
+zlaire1 I think I can give you chords names (for guitar) if you want. I say it's 3 chords starting with a Bb or an A#. Then there's a Cm and another chord I can't quite name but I could find something close and I could give you the individual notes I'm hearing. What instrument are you looking to play this on?
+MICHIKO & CO. On Guitar and Banjo (4 strings) as well, but if you have the chords for guitar I should find for banjo easily. For me, seems to be A# first, then Cm, what do you get next? THanks for your help, really enjoy this song!
