When it comes to living legends, they don’t come bigger in carp fishing then Tim Paisley. In this episode of the podcast Hassan was fortunate enough to meet up with the man himself and record this podcast surrounded by a huge amount of carp fishing history in Tim’s own home office.
Tim Paisley has changed the landscape of carp fishing forever in respect to his carp fishing writing which started way back in late 1970’s. From being Editor of the Carp Society’s “Carp Fisher Magazine” in the early 1980’s he went on to form “CarpWorld Magazine” in 1988. Tim talks about this whole groundbreaking process of putting carp fishing into print. He also shares tales of how angling was back in the 1970’s and 1980’s and reflects on the contributors to magazines at the time, anglers such as the legendary Rod Hutchinson. Another prominent part of Tim’s career within carp fishing magazine media was the formation of the world’s first ever weekly carp fishing publication “Carp Talk” alongside Kev Clifford and Chris Ball. Tim reminisces about his time working as Editor across all three publications and the amazing, eventful and colourful times he had.
Not content with magazines Tim also has eleven (and counting) books published. He talks about his love for the written word and how his love of carp fishing really brought this to the forefront via his books. His books are really a labour of love and a collection of carp fishing historical chronicles over the course of his lifetime obsession.
When it comes to angling in the UK Tim being a proud northerner has fished some of the most famous and iconic of places. He talks in depth about fishing and running both Birch Grove and The mangrove syndicates in Shropshire. He also talks about his travels down south to meet up with good friend Kevin Nash fish the Church lake, this is still the sight of Tim’s UK PB mirror at 45lb 8oz.
When it comes to foreign fishing adventures Tim has amassed an incredible total of five seventies from three different waters. Probably the most impressive being the capture of a 73lb 13oz common carp from Lake Raduta which was the biggest carp caught in the world in 2001. Tim talks about his love for fishing abroad and how it suits his “session” based bait and wait approach to carp fishing. Tim also shares his thoughts on rigs and what he thinks is going on below the surface when fishing for carp.
Tim has an incredible match carp fishing record winning the World Carp Cup twice with Steve Briggs and winning the World Carp Classic with Lee Jackson. Tim recalls the highs and lows of his big carp match fishing days and shares incredible stories, memories and captures from those glory years.
Tim is an institution of carp fishing history and knowledge, this podcast has something from the most die-hard of carp angling historian to a modern day newcomer, Tim has forgotten more about carp fishing then most of us will ever know yet he remains so modest despite the monumental impact he’s had on our sport.

Really enjoyed Tim’s podcast. He one of anglings true gentleman who doesn’t need to be constantly effing in order to express himself. I’m no prude but him and Chris Ball (Korda) podcasts are a breath of fresh air. Both of them are great story tellers. Well done Hassan in scooping this one.

Many people talk of Rod being their inspiration, perhaps Yates, Gibbinson, or nowadays Terry, for me it is most certainly Tim. I grew up reading, listening to and watching him and he has made my World a better place over the years. Keep taking the supplements Tim.

I read this a couple of days ago and it stuck with me. I wasn’t sure why but now realize that I feel exactly the same. Always loved his no nonsense, common sense approach which rubs some people up the wrong way but I love it. Always appreciated his writing style too. Unique and eloquent in capturing the things that go through our heads during long sessions. We all owe him a huge debt for his services to carp fishing.

Its not often that I would comment on a podcast but I think its fair to say that it was a brilliant interview from someone who I suspect we have all followed for many years in Tim. I also wanted to pay a massive compliment to you Hassan. You really have become the best out there in terms of the interview and how you come across and your interaction with the guests; you are a massive asset to the firm and making the podcast the best out there now, so a big well done to you.

Tim's writing about session fishing, and especially the location of feeding spots, was an absolute revelation for me back in the early nineties. Had the pleasure of spending an evening in the pub with him once, which was lovely.

Tims winter session diary pieces in the very early carpworlds were my total inspiration for jut keeping going in the worst of circumstances....and Two seasons on the mangrove should really have become a lifelong devotion...maybe time to put things in motion to head back.

Jim Gibbinson and Rod were our heroes through the 70s, both so influential. Then Tim P’s first books made us feel we weren’t so crazy after all. Absolutely loved Carp Season. Thanks for interviewing him, pleased he is still right on the ball….. he really was at the center of all things carpy for a long time.

One of the best yet. Am going to go back and read Bivvy Three after this. I love his enthusiasm and commitment. I saw him on my only trip ever to Sheffield and didn’t stop him to thank him. He definitely was one of the biggest inspirations of my carp fishing life over the last 35 years. “Keep on keeping on”!

Great to hear Tim speak about his angling life. Would be good to get him back on as he has so much more to talk about. And a better interview from Hassan this time . . . . . . he has stopped the constant use of the word 'mate' and the over patronising. Big improvement, finally !

Good work lads, just a probably, one may think, unrelated point with ref to the mighty Hutchinson. When ever i hear of Rods drug and alchohol consumption theres usually a bit of a chuckle about his larger than life character Yet as a reader of his books from when they were first published and a big fan from the age of 20 all i could see was the obvious damage that alchohol did to the great man His drink drive ban/carp fishing and alchohol addiction are things we both would of shared were he still with us Dont really know what im trying to achieve here other than a word of warning to stick with the fishing and not the booze
