This will absolutely be one of the episodes that Babish redoes in 2 years.

Because its the Detroit area I think a more accurate version would be a coney dog version of it. Also very happy to see this forgotten show get some love!

This was more like a "Being Healty with Babish" Which is nice, but I kinda wanted to see a better version of the intended "bread bowl + Sausage" like with a better bread, better sausage, more tasty condiments, etc.

The first hot dog bowl won hands down by virtue of *not* being healthier. Trying to make it healthy just defeats the whole purpose.

I made a version of this a while back having never watched The Detroiters but I got a bread bowl from Panera, made some chili and cooked one or two hotdogs. Topped it with a little bit of cheese and onions. Pretty tasty.

fun fact about Panera, i learned this while baking for them, but you can buy like, any of the bread on their bread wall, its baked fresh daily. I dont remember if they have it, but their Tomato Basil Loaf is my favorite

I have neither seen nor even heard of The Detroiters, but I consider myself a hot dog connoisseur and that first iteration looked like an abomination of a vehicle with which to deliver a hot dog. I also believe that a fork and knife were perfectly acceptable to use with it. Using the back of the knife to scrape off the garlic, but still the sharp to scrape stuff up off the chopping board. Tch. I once worked in a friend’s restaurant and she told me that, if she ever caught me using the sharp to scrape stuff up she would cut my balls off- and it would really hurt, she said, because the knife would be so dull. We’re still sort of friends, though I moved to another country, and I always, ALWAYS use the back of a knife to scrape up, in case she somehow finds out I’ve done otherwise.

In brasil we only boil hot dogs, but maybe its bc our hot dog sausages are very different from American ones, and work much better when boiled, if anything not boiling it seems weird lol
