Apple just got hit with another major fail that is a much bigger deal than it may appear. As iPhone struggles to regain momentum, Apple needs a new master plan to keep the money flowing, which may involve slashing prices and offering something new. Let me tell you why the Apple Card's demise spells bad news for iPhone 16 and why Apple needs a new plan to save a downfall.

@@mrc1500 It's why low/no fee payment plans like Klarna and Afterpay are doing well. Like, even if you can't afford the lump sum, why pay forever for a computer subscription when you can pay it off over a year and then you have it for as long as you want? Especially with Apple products, they hold value so if you don't want it anymore, you can sell it pretty easily.

@@slaustsen2 I've used my Apple Card internationally. You can't sign up outside the US, but you can still use it anywhere you can use Mastercard, which is pretty much everywhere around the globe. I think they started with the US because it's a market they are most closely associated with. If it took off well, they can introduce it into other markets. Considering it hasn't expanded, its likely they haven't found good international partners yet and/or they've realize there are still a lot of complications they need to sort out before expanding it to a larger market.

Maybe I'm just made different but I'd sooner own equipment than rent it. This subscription fad reminds me of the 70s and 80s when we used to rent TVs instead of buying them. The very idea of big corporations parasitising your income by leaching money from you when you have it, and repossessing equipment when you don't, gives me the heebie-jeebies. I love Apple tech but its getting too expensive and I don't think that's because the equipment is intrinsically worth it, I think the increase in purchase cost is a cynical attempt to lay the groundwork for hardware subscription by making it seem more attractive. If hardware subscription becomes the trend and it becomes prohibitively expensive to buy or own your own equipment then I guess it's a huge win for big tech in the whole right to repair controversy. So, no. I'm not in favour of hardware subscriptions and, when it comes to computing, if I can't buy a Mac at a reasonable cost then I'll just build my own rig and put a Linux OS on there.

Namely people who can barely pay for RENT and Utilities. It's only a matter of time before Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint are dead and everyone is on T-Mobile themselves, because of how far down the rabbit hole the costs are and less need to replace their devices including myself still on a Windows PC and Steam isn't on Apple iMac as much.

Seeing as what they have reported as the primary reason for losses is chargeoff's due to bad loans, I'd suspect it was the financial institution that was over eggar to approve cards in a harsh economic time, but I'm sure we will know better when we see who picks it up or if Apple ends up having to make an actual financial institution to handle this themselves. Shortly after, there was a game that I played , was pretty simple in nature and one could progress a little faster by purchasing a one time upgrade if one desired, or you could just play the game and earn the upgrades. Well, it went from that model to 9.99/month. It was not some AAA title or anything like that either...I immediately uninstalled the app I did get an Apple Card when it was released but never used it. They needed a CEO that would provide the stability and most important sustaining an incredible stable supply chain for the the huge influx of iPhone and related products. Tim Cook if you do not know is master of supply chain. in fact the very first iPhone would have never launched with success if Tim did not do his magic on the back side locking down the needed supply chain for the up coming onslaught the iPhones would bring. Tim has executed his responsibility most perfectly which was to make sure every one of the iPhone and apple products were available without a glitch for the last 15 years. Now he will be retiring and it seems like a really good time, because Apple is up for a phase of innovation and maybe Apple can find another amazing innovator to push Apple into the future.

Apple Pay is gaining more ground, not losing. Apple Pay is now even at Waffle House, which just about 10 years ago was cash only. Goldman Sach’s was been having issue for years, they thought this would get them back to the level of Citi, Chase and Well Fargo. Citi and the others are currently bidding for the service. The Apple Card is bringing plenty of revenue, Goldman Sach’s is just a horrible bank.

We like to drive big Trucks even if you don't used them. I think consumers are the one to blame we get this huge products for many reason when in reality we don't need them.

What are you talking about? The Apple Card is a huge success, it’s just that Goldman Sachs (a non consumer bank) isn’t making the profit it wanted out of it, so Apple will move to a different partner. This is no different than any other infinity card arrangement, which often shift to new banks, every few years…

I think most of us just got burned by being early adopters of expensive Macintosh systems back in the 1990's. Macintosh was dabomb up until System 7.5.3, and then they stabbed all of us in the back and switched the PowerPC and MachBSD Linux. That was the deth of Apple in the 90's. None of our software ran on the new systems. We all fled to building our own whitebox tower PC's that had a better TCP/IP stack running on them for a lot cheaper. And since then, there has been no compelling reason to go back to Apple. They reinvented themselves with the ipad and iphone, because desktop users were long gone. None of what Apple does any more matters though, because Apple got more money than gawd and are now just a huge financial holding company that can buy up any business star in any emerging sector they want. They bamboozled us all selling Desktop Publishing Macs, and I know my barn is full of them and none of them are worth anything any more.

I was Apple ONLY for 29 years straight. I didn't just hate Windows: I refused to use it. It was like driving a broken piece of shit car with a big SMILE on your face. I just couldn't believe Steve Job's knack for great ideas. Had he lived most of us would own an EV already, it would have a sodium based battery, and Tesla wouldn't even exist. I met Tim Cook once in the original West Coast Apple store and was not impressed. At all. He's the guy that figures out who to make the 24 dollar profit on an iWidget 26 -- and throws himself a Clever Parade. Steve Jobs thought up the widget in the first place. So I don't care if some choices by Tim were a big mistake. Tim himself is Steve Job's biggest mistake.

What they need to do is rather simple, 1: Release an Iphone that is properly designed every 2-3 years (when most people want to update their phones). 2: Stop slowly killing their products via update. 3: Take right to repair seriously. (they have started but needs work)

No one wanted a miniature iPhone? I do. The only reason I can see for wanting a huge screen is if you are going to stare at it all day. If I'm at work, I can't have a phone. If I'm driving, I can't stare at the screen. If I'm at home I have a real computer. Perhaps twice a year I'll be in a doctor's waiting room, and I'll use the phone then for reading the news. I don't need to carry around a huge phone for the few occasions where I'm gonna be looking at the screen for an hour.

You don't know the first thing about financial services! Goldman Sachs (an institution I've done business with for decades) wanted to move a bit of their business from high net-worth individuals and families to a wider service with more customers. After the marriage, Goldman Sachs wasn't happy with Apple wanting too many high risk clients to be approved. Apple pushed for virtually nobody be turned down for "their card." This created defaults above what Goldman Sachs ever expected, and in turn, they want to return to their core business of catering to EXTREMELY high net-worth customers only. Apple will easily find another bank- I think Chase is already a shoe-in, but dozens of banks want the Apple Card business, so it isn't a failure of the Apple Card. Their chosen partner doesn't want to deal with all of the flakes that Apple wanted approved. Apple is and will continue to make a killing with their car, but it won't be with Goldman Sachs. I'll continue to have an Apple Card and keep my accounts with Goldman Sachs for the high return.

I’ve used Apple computers as my daily driver since 1991 but I feel that the relationship has run its course. (I bought a Windows machine for gaming, and it’s actually not as awful as the Microsoft experience was, back in the day.) With Apple, all was good until the decline started under Tim Cook. Nowadays I see things that used to “just work” becoming harder to do and I’m fed up with the endless nickel-and-diming in the name of “services” that frankly aren’t very good.

Logic Pro used to come in a box set for $799. Then when the App Store was introduced I had to pay additional $199.00 for the App Store Logic Pro X. New users only paid $199. So instead of Apple allowing current customers who already bought Logic Pro for $799 to do an upgrade ( should have been free for the customers who already paid $799 for Logic Pro box set) it was like I had to re purchase Logic Pro X all over again. So Apple basically ripped off all the musicians who paid $799 for the Logic Studio Box Set before the App Store came out. They could have charged all Logic Studio customers and upgrade fee if $19.99 or $49.99. But I already paid Apple $799 for Logic Studio we should have got the upgrade free. Apple is ripping off everyone Tim Cook is the reason. Steve Jobs would never have allowed this to happen on his watch.

Even cars are offering subscriptions for hardware through infotainment systems. Apple are late and now trying to play catch-up to this big money maker.

Saying something is failing without support is just plain propaganda! People like you have been predicting the fall of Apple since 1984, and yet here she still, is the richest company on the planet and you think again everything that Apple makes is a failure! Why is it that none of their customers agree with you? And I have the numbers to prove it unlike you! Despite your protestations, the card is a success for anyone who has one! In fact, it is the best card on the planet and those of us that have one love it. Those that have the iPhone Mini swear by it and want Apple to continue making them and apparently she will again like she did before! You might like to add irony into the tone of your voice, but that doesn’t change the fact that you are wrong about this! Yes, Apple made the Newton way back in history and it was a flop, but that doesn’t make Apple a flop, nor does conjecture appear to be your strong suit!

I used to be a loyal Apple customer for decades because of the superior software stack from OS to apps. With all the ever-increasing bloatware and increasingly malfunctioning apps update by update, I felt I was left no choice but to go in a different direction. Android started to outperform iOS in an increasing number of categories, and Windows PCs today are far more stable and reliable than Macs. Even non-creative financial analysts are complaining their iPhones getting worse with each software update. What made Apple Apple seem to be gone for good.
