I saw this dude's entire career. I can remember talking about this dude in high school. One of the greatest under achievers of all time. I'm a little less critical now because of the knowledge that he had a very sickly wife. It's possible that being the "best" or becoming the goat wasn't a priority.
Tim was a Beast in High School for Paterson Catholic...saw him play a lot in state and county tournaments thought he was going to go straight to the league and be a legend. unfornately i was wrong on both accounts...shame....a lot of raw talent
And it's been said he is willing to set aside basketball so he could fully meet his obligations by taking care of her without distractions. (Well, it helped he had a guaranteed huge money and hopefully he was a good steward.)
Seems like Thomas would have thrived had he been able to play with the Suns his entire career or a similar uptempo offense. I think coaches didn’t know what to do with him because he was so versatile. He would thrive in today’s NBA.
I'm from Milwaukee and watched Tim Thomas play for many years with the Bucks. The guy literally had every single tool and ability a player could ask for except he played with no heart whatsoever. And when they gave him a six year-66 million contract based off playing well in one playoff series his drive seemed to go down even more. He played well here and there but was totally inconsistent and seemed to often be going through the motions.
Tim left A LOT ON THE TABLE. With that said, some players don’t have the perceived energy and/or drive as others. Tim Thomas reminds me a lot of T-Mac. Both guys were big for their perimeter positions, super athletic with three range. But never really became what they could have (although T-Mac managed to snake slither through the grass for a championship at San Antonio).
He absolutely had more talent then Kobe i was a 96 grad i remember my AAU coach called him Shawn Kemp with a jumper he a Tmac might be the greatest high school players ever
A Huge reason Tim Thomas didn't reach his individual potential is because he spent his prime on teams that Already had established talent. He was Expected to develop into a superstar, but be used as a complimentary player He started out with an unstable, young Philly squad that had Bubba Chuck & Stack feuding over "who was the # 1 option was." Along with Larry Brown as a egocentric HC who wanted equal attention as his players Then got shipped to Milwaukee with an established Big 3 (Cassell, Allen & Robinson.) Then in NY, with Marbury, the Knicks kept adding pieces like J Crossover etc He gets a label as being nonchalant & lazy, yet doesn't get Applauded for how great of a teammate he was... He easily could've complained, in Philly about being underutilized in favor of a George Lynch. Or griped about having to come off the bench, at PF, Milwaukee. When he was a more versatile scorer and better defender then Big Dog Robinson as the starting SF Outside of not trying to challenge Michael Redd as the # 1 option in Milwaukee, after the Big 3 were dealt, Thomas has handled himself like a true professional
Bucks legend... Apart of that "iconic" Milwaukee Bucks roster. Led my Jesus Shuttlesworth, Mad Daawg Glen Robinson, Sam Cassell, Timmy Thomas, Caffey, Devin Ham, Desmond Mason... Y'all KNOW the vibes.
Ah man I remember him; he had all the ability on the world; 6’10 230lbs/ great athleticism / handle/ jump shot/ I thought the sizer got an periennal all star
Aye, can you do my favorite player?? #3 JOHN STARKS New York Knicks. Make sure you get the baseline dunk over the Bulls team. And he has John Starks Day in Oklahoma.
With his size and athleticism he should have been way better smh. Him never averaging more than 14 is crazy. His growth definitely got stunted by the teams he was playing for
Tim Thomas was a special talent, but everybody is special in the NBA. There were many guys ranked above MJ as well in all levels of basketball, and both MJ and Kobe were not expected to be even nearly as great as they became. That's why the draft in any sport is unquantifiable. We could do all of the studying of who are the most NBA/NFL ready players to enter the draft, but in reality it tells us nothing about their character, or their determination to improve. Tim Thomas might have been ranked higher than Kobe in high school, but I bet if they played against each other even as high schoolers, Kobe would have dominated him head to head because Kobe already had all of the skills, but he also had intangibles that the vast majority of people do not have, including Tim Thomas.
Im from Boston n I think he a jersey kid I heard of bro b4 I seen him put it like THIS if the internet was a thing back then bro hype would been Zion lebron wemby type shyt 💯never bloomed but he had moments
no disrespect to tim thomas but for me these interests/hobbies did do and will go in this EXACT order #1 wilt chamberlain #2 kareem abdul-jabbar #3 patrick ewing #4 willis reed #5 moses malone #6 dave cowens #7 sixers #8 bucks and #9 knicks
His numbers *SUCKED* , brother. The man never topped the 16.9 ppg he averaged in college? That's weak. Charles Barkley was only 6'6" and averaged 22 ppg and 12 rbs for his career. This guy was 6'10" and gave me 12 and 5??? Basically what Charles would do by halftime.
