Tim Witherspoon - Is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1979 to 2003. He is a two-time world heavyweight champion, having held the WBC title in 1984, and the WBA title in 1986. Witherspoon also worked as a regular sparring partner for Muhammad Ali. Witherspoon's style was that of a pressure fighter, using an unusual cross-arm guard similar to Ken Norton, with a strong and fast overhand right.

it's crazy that this man has his own channel just spreading knowledge and it has so little viewers, he has so much knowledge on the philly shell, cross arm, 52 blocks, etc. its criminal that he isnt more widely known

Unfortunately Boxing is a bit of a niche sport when it comes to RU-vid channels and things like that bud. Just look at my channel for example although I'm happy with the success I've had, 110k subscribers in 9 years for the amount of time I've put into it? It's not great compared to a lot of channels out there. Tim's a great guy and I'm sure he'll do well eventually.

@@drinfernodds sure, I noticed that. Where is the bit about Wing Chun ? I don't think they go together that well, because the British Boxing Board of Control rules, say that there's no chopping at the arms. I noticed he, was inspired, by a bit of karate. To suggest, a block from karate kata.
@drinfernodds
@drinfernodds Год назад
@Robert Farr On Tim Witherspoon's RU-vid channel. Wing Chun uses a lot of hand traps, not forearm blocks like karate.(only in a boxing guard are the forearms part of blocking) and fighters like Tim have found a lot of success in using them in boxing. Not everything in wing Chun crosses over, but hand traps can be very effective in boxing.
@MrRobertFarr
@MrRobertFarr Год назад
@@drinfernodds Ah sure. Can you find the video, you are referring to perhaps and drop a link, I thought I found the one you are thinking of, but I don't think it's anything like you are describing. Sure Karate, is not really allowed under the BBBoC rules of Boxing. The sport, has a lot of rules that are not immediately obvious. I recently read The Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. What an awesome game ! But, you might assume the money is still there in Boxing, as it's a stand up fight , fast and easy to describe on the radio. Easy to televise. A very, entertaining sport, I keep coming back to. I persuaded my mum to play some Karate today with me, she's a former Tai Chi student !

@@hanzagod I'm not an expert at all but I'd say that cross-armed defenses are easier to incoroporate into your game (let's take Rammon Dekkers as an example) but, imo, they offer more possibilities and, henceforth, require more training in order to be used properly/ in the right context (not the same strategy when using cross guard like Gene Fullmer as with G. Its TIM WITHERSPOON fault why him & MIKE TYSON never fought each other . All WITHERSPOON had to do was beat BONECRUSHER SMITH for the WBA Championship in 1987, then he wouldve been able to fight TYSON, But BONECRUSHER destroyed WITHERSPOON in 1 rd, & BONECRUSHER got the shot at TYSON, & TYSON beat him . And through the years, WITHERSPOON would lose to LARRY HOLMES, & TYSON destroyed HOLMES . WITHERSPOON would lose to PINKLON THOMAS, & TYSON destroyed THOMAS . WITHERSPOON would lose to ANDREW GOLOTA , & TYSON destroyed GOLOTA . WITHERSPOON would get destroyed by BRIAN NEILSEN , & TYSON destroyed NEILSEN & later WITHERSPOON would get destroyed by LOU SAVERESE, & TYSON destroyed SAVERESE . . Bottom line is all through the 1980's & the 90's, WITHERSPOON would lose to the same opponents TYSON beat, & thats why WITHERSPOON never got the chance to fight TYSON, its his fault for not winning fights when he suppose to,. & overrall TYSON looked better against the same opponents WITHERSPOON fought , even against the same Heavyweights they beat. The only Common Opponent WITHERSPOON looked more impressive beating who fought TYSON was JAMES TILLIS , but that's literally it, every other common opponent they fought , IRON MIKE looked way more impressive against them than WITHERSPOON did.

You know better than to make comparisons like that as you sound well versed in your analysis.. You never considered the style difference and the fact that tim could have weathered that storm Tyson brought.It would've frustrated Tyson and we all know what happens when Tyson losses it. You can't just argue hypotheticals.
@anythinggoesvideospart-2242
@@76shogun1 Thats an exagerration, TONY TUCKER weathered TYSON's storm for 12 Rds, & TYSON beat him by 12 Rd Decision. JAMES TILLIS weathered TYSON's storm, & TYSON beat him 10 rd decision. MITCH GREEN weathered TYSON's storm, & TYSON beat him 10 rd decision. RAZOR RUDDOCK weathered TYSON's storm in the rematch, & TYSON beat him 12 rd decision in a BRUTAL FIGHT. JOSE RIBALTA weathered TYSON's storm until the last rd, & TYSON destroyed him in the 10th Rd . So that bullshit you claimed about "WEATHER THE STORM" is a HUGE Exaggeration , TYSON destroyed & beat many people past 4 & 5 rds ., & won some full distance decisions as well When TYSON was in 100% Shape & focused, he was pretty much UNBEATABLE, especially in the 1980's with KEVIN ROONEY .. .......... And i didnt even claim TYSON would beat WITHERSPOON anyway , i just made the point that it was WITHERSPOONS fault on why him & MIKE TYSON never fought each other, & thats because WITHERSPOON was pretty much losing throughout his whole career, to the same exact HEAVYWEIGHTS TYSON beat , which is FACTS
