Off the Gordon River Road in the Florentine Valley lies the Timbs Track, a seldom used track which ventures north up the valley, eventually leading to the Vale of Rasselas and Lake Rhona. On this particular walk, I went up to the Florentine River and back, checking out Ewes Inn. the old lookout halfway along the buttongrass ridge, and some marvellous ancient forest. As of mid 2020, all other tracks in this area are closed due to bushfire damage from 2018/19.

Thanks for the video Lucas, we watched it before we did our explore to the twisted sister today. We wandered down the Timbs for a little bit (approx 40mins) while we were there but it was late so we will come back another day to complete the walk to Ewe's Inn Hut. Do you know how far it is to the Inn from the carpark?

According to my notes, it took me about 90 minutes one way to get to Ewes Inn/Florentine River, including all breaks. Don't know the distance in terms of km.

I was supposed to be in Tassie on Saturday but will need to wait until August/Sept and then again in November. Great to have these videos to kept me entertained until then.

Looks like a walk in the park in nicer weather. Hope you can show us Adamsfield one day Lucas. I guess there's no way to now get to Rhona from Timbs as the Gordon Bend is impassable? I'm going to see if you've done the Thumbs and Mt Clear already.

I do have videos of both those peaks 👍 I went close to Adamsfield on that trip to The Thumbs, but I'd love to see what all the tracks in that area are like. I guess it'll have to wait until they've re-opened.

I do often carry a GPS: a Garmin GPSmap64. I didn't use it on this walk though. Thanks for watching 🙂

That lookout was standing when I was there in 2014. Has it been demolished or just fallen down?
@LucasChamberlain

I'm not actually sure! There wasn't anything left standing like pillars, so maybe it was demolished. But i guess if someone demolished it, then surely they would have taken the debris with them? I dunno haha.

Another great video Lucas. Been down that track many times using the old Churchill Spur track to go to Rhona. We always used the flying fox over the Gordon. I've never been in over the Tiger Range. I agree that shorter access is killing the Denisons.

Thanks Peter 🙂 I assume the flying foxes no longer exist? As I said to someone else, I'd love to fully explore the area, but I guess it'll have to wait a while with the bushfire damage. I must admit, I used the shortcut to access Lake Rhona and the Denison Range. But I guess that still doesn't change the fact that closing it would likely result in a dramatic reduction of visitation and hence, impact. Apparently it's very difficult to cross at Gordon Bend now, so using the longer route may not even be doable apart from in the height of summer.
