@@SpreadingtheMuse if you butcher much loved classics, in an accountant run, risk adverse cash grab, rather than devising new content I don’t think you can call critics incels
My brother & I both grew up watching the original classic. This new 'remake' is an absolute joke, changing the Time Bandits from Dwarfs to regular size people??? Are you frickin' kidding me AppleTV+???
Napoleon: [to the Bandits] You are the best thing to happen to me since this whole campaign. You know I come here to conquer Italy, because I thought they were all small. You know, I hear they was really tiny guys... Where the hell are our tiny guys ?????????????????
@@999jay999 blink and you'd miss them at one minute, forty seconds. Definitely not the same characters though. I'm worried they're going to ruin Baron VonMunchhausen next.
@@SpreadingtheMuseWht arev you talking about??? In the 80s and 90s fans were what made these shows huge..So when these shows get remade, inserting their gender politics etc etc..And then they absolutely destroy our fave childhood shows...We're obviously going to voice our opponiin.
You know why the 80's were great? Because they made thought provoking content that was decades ahead of its time. Now people take that amazing content and repackage it as total crap.
I don't know if it's because the current creators are creatively bankrupt (and have not lived actual lives upon which to draw upon), we have dumbed down the audience, and there are structural costs that make movies too expensive but we simply do not see studios taking creative chances anymore with new IP's. I also there there is a audience fragmentation issue. It's too easy to wait until it's on streaming. Sure, we had the similar issue with just waiting on DVD's but it usually took some time to go to DVD so you were incentivized to see in the theatre. NOW, you can literally see it 30 days later if not day and date with the theatre release. It's insane.
I think I'll judge it AFTER I watch it, not before. Fans who whine with knee-jerk irrational hatred are exactly why we can't have nice things. (Hint, even the 1939 Wizard of Oz was the 5th or SIXTH remake of the original material. And yet that's now the definitive version.)
@@SpreadingtheMuse The problem is that, once you see something and it turns out you were RIGHT that it was garbage, it's too late. You can't get your time or money back. Nor can you take back your contribution or time watched to the totals that the studio will brag about. By ignoring your gut and giving into the "you can't judge it UNTIL you see it" rhetoric, you have let people who did not deserve your time or money EXACTLY what they wanted and you are left powerless to protest. Better to hear from critics whom you trust, since the studios no longer deserve it.
Oh for eff sake. I am sick and tired of exactly that kind of self-righteous holier than thou whining. WTF "insult?" Dude unless you own the rights to the 80s version, its not your place and not your problem. On the contrary, as someone who saw the 80s version IN THE 80S, in the theater, this looks funny as hell. The problem is too many 'fans' are just petty whiners, perpetually filling out their "Entitled Butthurt Bingo Card" with the predictable ranting of "I know it sucks even though I haven't seen it," and "I hate remakes" and the ever-present first-world crocodile tear inducing: "Hollywood has ruined my childhood." Get over yourself.
Apple TV turned off comments on their post😂. The took all the charm and coolness out of the Terry Gilliam original, trashed it apparently. That’s too bad, this looks awful and it’s just a trailer
It is very reminiscent of this famous passage: *_“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”_* - George Orwell, Nineteen Eighty-Four
So many of these remakes, reimaginings and reboots only serve to demonstrate that the original wasn’t an IP but rather a specific vision from an individual (or group of individuals working together). The newer stuff is just homogeneous.
May of us do... But sadly, The OG movie was a Box office FAIL!!! I am with most critics when they say "Stop rebooting successful movies (Halloween, Friday the 13th, SAW, Legally Blonde, Total Recall, etc) unless you literally do have something new to add... [EDIT: Yes, I do know that I included Total Recall and that actually DID TRY to do something different as it was CLOSER to the actual Story its based on - The Arnie Movie as much as I love it was "Based on" in name only! in other words... Douglas Quaid, Thats it! It has NOTHNG IN COMMON with the Story at all!] They worked! They were a Success! Reboot movies that FAILED" And Time Bandits back in 1981 was an ABYSMAL FAIL! I loved it even back then... I first got to watch it as part of an English Lesson at Primary School in 1983 I think... My Teacher bought in a VHS and played it for the class as we were going to be studying the Book and the Movie as different works... But its initial release t was an abject bomb! I watched the trailer with an open mind... And my biggest issue so far is they are trying a bit TOO HARD to be comedic... And many jokes just are not landing! But maybe they will work in the full feature - After all this is a trailer... Something else that is getting to me, OH DEAR GOD IT LOOKS SO GENERIC! There are certain things you see when watching a movie and go "OH LOOK, TAIKO WHAITITI WORKED ON THIS! (I am respectful I know I spelled his name wrong and for that I am sorry!) and OH JESUS IT ALL OVER THIS TRAILER! It looks Like MARVEL and THE DARK CRYSTAL have had a love Child... And the result did not turn out so well! I think "Hope for the best, Expect the Worst" - Thats how we need to view it! We will always have our beloved OG... Could they reboot the OG properly? I think it could be... I just dont think this is it! I think it will fail as it is trying to be like everything else that has already been a success... So it wont stand out! The OG stands out as Cult Classic as it literally is its own unique movie! This already has TW fingerprints everywhere! They may as well have had Quentin Tarnatino work on it and shocked us all with Toe Sucking and a Dwarven Samuel L. Jackson screaming "DID HE SCREAM LIKE A B**CH"...
A Jeff Bezos joke? OMG, hilarious! And she confused Greeks with geeks! What a knee slapper! 🤣🤣🤣 oh dear god, the funny, I can't take it! Make it stop! But seriously though, make it stop. I can't take it. The only good thing about this is maybe it will make some people who've never seen it hunt down the original and give it a well-deserved watch.
One of the funniest scenes in the original movie was the Time Bandits singing Me & My Shadow in front of Napoleon and they ended up fighting each other - absolutely hilarious! I doubt if anything like this will be in the series.
First 30 seconds looked promising, until Lisa Kudrow showed up and she became the highlight. Yikes. At least Terry Gilliam made some money from selling the property. Maybe we can get a new movie from him with it eventually.
@@tomp8871 I thought the same thing a while ago when Hollywood was in the business of remaking classic John Carpenter films. Many subpar movies, but at least it was money in Carpenter's pocket.
No one has original ideas anymore. We're stuck in an endless loop of remakes, sequals, prequals, alternate whatevers. They also announced gladiator 2 with Denzel, he's the ultimate idea thief. the cheap money grabs will continue.
Time Bandits was a BOX OFFICE BOMB... I love the film myself... Always have but it did FAIL! If a movie is successful - DONT REBOOT IT! But if a Movie Fails... DON'T REBOOT IT... LET IT DIE!!! Thats what you are saying! It doesn't work... And of course there are no original ideas anymore - There has not been for decades! STAR WARS is a Space Retelling of most Western and THE SEVEN SAMUARI of Japanese Culture... KICK-ASS, Heralded back in the day as the Most Original Adaptation of a Graphic Novel EVER... 30 Years prior CONDORMAN... Not as Gritty but 100% the groundwork walked on by KICK-ASS! Total Nobody becomes a Hero!!! We have to accept it - Time Bandit's was a FAIL! So a reboot is fair game... Maybe they can not only please old fans of the OG but also make it work for new younger audience's!!! (That how they think, The fact we are all commenting - We know they F**KED IT UP!) The OG film is now very old... Its Cult Classic to us... but I have to bow and say "OK! Its fair game now!"
Kinda peaked with Jojo Rabbit and turned into just another "big movies with big budgets and little to none creativity" director, sadly. Loved his early stuff.
Can't wait til the industry bottoms out then maybe we can get some real entertainment, you know movies without DEI or any agendas - like the good old days.
Oh man, these comments are fantastic. I love that I have the OG Time Bandits criterion dvd and that I have shown my kids that version. Because 😢 at this remake
Q: "Let's a make a re-make of a film that nobody wants to see, but how can we guarantee that it'll suck balls and bomb at the theater?" A: "Let's cast Lisa Kudrow in the lead."
on a serious note with the CGI/ green screen tech now they could/should of made a time bandits sequel. they can copy exactly what an actor sounds - looks/looked like from years ago. no need for actual human actors for 80% of a film. they could take all the original look of film and actors who are now mostly dead and recreate them digitally you wont even realize it. thats where movies should be heading.
Who the fuck though that this could be good enough to be compared with the original one... hope they will not pretend the same with Brazil and Munchausen..
The original movie was a staple of my childhood. It is pure, inimitable magic. I love Taika Waititi's work, and think Jermaine Clement is always a joy to watch. But I am wholly heartbroken over this.
Heaven forbid they should employee people from a marginalized and small minority group who have diverse back grounds and come in many different shapes, sizes, and ethnicities... Dingleberry really did his fellow little people wrong.
Have they ever stopped to think about doing something original instead of rehashing cherished classics which is bound to lose them a ton of money and then they will blame the fans, it's another sign of a dying culture
Ugg..they just couldn't leave well enough alone. This is just more proof that they have completely run out of any original ideas and are reduced to recycling that which has come before. What a sad state of affairs that there is no more original thought or creativity left.
