Its kinda hard to example that "manga adaptation" part, the one i know that was more rushed was "Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches" which have adapted 11 volumes in 12 episodes, but besides the rush, the anime wasnt bad. By the way, the normal adaptation rate is 3 or 4 manga volumes per 12 episodes seasson, i dont even know a single anime who did more than one volume per episode and the example called this episode was 14 volumes/6 episodes, guess if it was a dorama, maybe it could have more than 20min episodes, i dont watch doramas, so i dont know thought

Kana never hated Aqua. She disliked how Ruby acted on set the first time meeting them. She was jealous of and admired Aqua’s acting, but she never hated him for it.

My read on why Kana likes Aqua so much is that when they met as kids he did such an amazing job that she idolized him a lot. The Producers and actors she's worked with while struggling for any work have probably not been serious about acting, at least up to her standards, and she thinks Aqua is someone that can take in seriously like she does.

Yes that is very much true she slightly mentioned it in ep 3 that she was happy knowing there was someone else out there like her growing up in an industry filled with darkness. Almost like she seen Aqua as a light within that darkness.

To add on to this, how long will a child hold a grudge? In all honestly, it's not unusual for a child to be mad at someone for a few days then feel differently a week later. For Kana, it's been more than ten years since she acted with this one boy who felt like a much better actor than she was at the time. Given that she looks back on her acting as a child fondly as some of the best moments in her trying to be an actress, it's not surprising that the same fondness could spill over into relationships from that time, even if they were antagonistic in the moment.

This is super realisic, and if you're a manga reader, most of the time there are footnotes at the end of a chapter with pictures and explanations of locations, charactercs, etc.

@@seananime_copying Yep. The pun doesn't work at all in english. They translated it literally so it doesn't make any sense in the english subtitles. Ideally, they would have localized it into an english pun, but I imagine that would have been pretty difficult

@@hex7003 I hear Kpop idol company kinda control everything that the talents need to do. Some of the agency also control what they eat and live. I dont know how much is this are true, just hear rumor bout it. They also push perfection beyond belief ( but this one is kinda same as japanese Idol I think). One of kpop boy get reject cause he kinda fat before, then get accept when he got skinny (I forget who). Correct me if im wrong cause evreything that I say is just people word that i hear.

@@hex7003 they do mass recruiting that takes month if not a year to finish while having similar treatment to prisoners. And these recruits is paid to enter, and most talent that get to the later stage had debt in the four-digit while the people that get into the 5-6 slots in a k-pop group have debt in the 5-6 digit, that’s just starting out, none of them have debut yet. And most of the time, the talent are “suggested” to do plastic surgery to increase their odds and that procedure is paid for them too. Add the toxicity of K-pop fans rivalling the idol fans of jp, I’ll ask who’s worse. In jp there black companies that exist but they don’t do it in mass like Korean do and they make the Talent pay with their profit not put them in so much debt that last 10 or so years.

The show that Kana stars in, “I’ll Go With Sweet Today”, comes from a manga source material called “Sweet Today” that is featured in Kaguya-sama. I’ll leave it at that for now, but it’s the first sign that the two series exist in the same universe (with Oshi no Ko happening 5-10 years after the end of Kaguya-sama).

Kana's story so far is pretty straightforward. At a young age, she was constantly told that she's good at acting and that blew her ego. When she was filming that one film with Aqua, she saw that Aqua outdid her acting and that hurts her ego. The keypoint here is, she acknowledged Aqua as a better actor than herself. That's why she developed that one-sided rivalry with Aqua. That rivalry ended up nowhere because Aqua hardly act again since then, which is why she was happy to reunite with him at her school that's known for it's performing arts program (which is based on a real school in Tokyo, Horikoshi High School).

man... I'm trying so hard to focus on this anime because I wanna watch it with everyone who's keeping up with the seasonal hype train, but I can't do this week-to-week thing _when my brain is so deep in Vinland Saga mode holy shit holy shit holy shit._ fucking unrelated and completely off topic (yet still spoiler free) yelling: literally I have cried so much watching season 2. it's the ending song. it's always the friggin ending song... "Without Love" is one of the single best ending songs I've ever seen in an anime, in terms of being a companion piece that completes the message of each episode in a unique way each and every single time. it's so gentle, it means everything to me, no matter what happens... it always comes back to that, and it kills me every time. so much of the early show feeds into the things that are happening in it now. I don't even know like... what to do. with the amount of feelings I have about this show. I'm gonna combust. end of unrelated off topic yelling. anyway. at least the second episode (far as I've gotten) was really interesting, just in terms of how tough performers can expect the industry to be, no matter where they specialize. I especially liked seeing the director talk about how there's no harm in continuing to dream. the fact that he still lives with his mom, even after finding some small successes with his films... it really emphasizes how sometimes you'll have to give up a certain level of lifestyle privilege, if you want to get ahead as an artist. and it's actually a good lesson for Aqua to absorb, because really... he'll only be subjecting Ruby to more hardships if he keeps getting in her way. the fact that he sabotaged her chances of signing on at legitimate agencies forces her to jump at whatever seedy operation happens to scout her... she's not going to give up, so really, he may only be hurting her in the long run.

The end credit was the same in episode 2 and 3. As a manga reader I knew that's the stalker role Aqua got in the third episode, but yeah the ending was cut just in time to make you feel the ending credits were made for the third episode.

This is really realistic, in therms of the info it shares, and it goes with the times (it gives you a real feeling of all the work behind singers, actors, influencers....) With Ruby you get the hard working part of the industry, where they try different jobs, train, get better, etc... (like most idol animes) She was a kid when she died so she's pretty much the same at this point. The light side of the entertainment world With Aqua, on the other hand, we get to see the darker side. You can feel it in the past episodes. He is the one that deals with the banter, underhanded deals, scandals, hypocresy, etc... He is an adult who got murdered and then saw his idol get killed. He has PTSD like no tomorrow. He is in the industry not due to "his promise to Ai" or because he likes it, just for revenge (or so he says). But he's not heartless so....

"whats a real life example of where this has happened" The promised neverland. The promised neverland had one of the most critically acclaimed first seasons of any show ever. Hype was gigantic, then the second season came out and just crammed the entirety of the rest of the manga in there, cutting out important characters and plotpoints, just SPRINTING towards the ending. Never seen people more salty about a disappointing second season as that one. The hype went from through the roof to through the floor.

The first season was fantastic in pacing and content.... but then the 2nd season came along.... and adapted _the rest of the whole god damn series in only 12 more episodes._ I have no idea why they did it. Maybe some out of touch higher-ups are to blame, who knows. It's seen as one of the worst drops in quality between seasons ever.

Girl was a bit of a conceited brat at 4* Luke: "OFCOURSE, THIS WOMAN HAS HAD REVENGE ON HER MIND FOR 12 YEARS! SHE MUST BE MASTERMINDING SOMETHING!" Man, I instantly absolutely loved Kana, I find her so appealing so quickly I never would have guessed that after episode 1. But she never showed hatred towards Aqua, she acknowledge that he did a much better job than her, and wanted a redo so that she could be as good as he was, but she never showed a sign of being angry with him, just herself for not being as good. She was a brat before the recording started, sure, because she thought he was gonna suck, but people are not the same as an adult as they are at 4 years old, and it seems Aqua left a positive impression on her rather than a bad one. Have to say, I ship it hard.

Aqua wouldn't have the relationship with the director if he never had his memories from his other life, as his relationship with the director was developed through how smart he was as a child. He wouldn't have really been able to grasp the concept of revenge and death at that age. Also, Miyako Saitou, who is now the adoptive mother of Aqua and Ruby, was going to expose them as being Ai's children, which would have ended badly."

Great reaction! About Kana's character or motivation behind trying to befriend Aqua. I feel her personality before was portrayed as very spoilt and arrogant, as a renowned child actor. THEN IN comes Aqua a new kid who has no experience and didnt pull out the big guns like she did in the scene they did but just by following what he thought would be the right approch from the directors intentions he recieved acknowledgment right away and she got upset in that moment because she obviously believed her acting was better and was thinking what is she missing and says later it was her attitude and communication means she relised her mistake . This sparked a kind of competitive interest of wanting to beat aqua you know thats why shes interested in his acting and sort of wants a relationship of competing with each other in order to better your own acting skills...like friendly competition and wants to be acknowledged.

"We only saw a genuine smile from Ai once" No, at least twice. Her relieved smile after she said "I love you" to her kids was definitely genuine. I like to think some of the smiles in the flashback of her life were real, too, when she was interacting with her kids.

41:29 A real example I can think of that is quite recent is Horimiya They adapted all 110+ chapters into a single 12 episode anime season. Needless to say, way too many things were cut, specially development for side characters and whole arcs with the main ones too. Thing was so rushed they are making a NEW season only to fill in the cut parts, it won't have anything after the ending, it will just fill in the blanks the original adaptation left behind.

my advice... keep the Thursday slot for seasonal anime... I don't know what comes out next season, but it will help your channel massively, if you can jump straight onto a new hype anime with us all... your reactions will be forced into the RU-vid algorithm for new viewers(especially if you get the reaction out early) and you wont see any of us complaining lol P.S. great reaction as always bro:)

In case some people are curious about the part with "14 Manga volumes put into 6 Episodes"... Here some Examples: Chainsaw Man Season 1 was around 5 and a half volumes, Mob Psycho 100 was around 6 and a half volumes, Toky Ghoul Season 1 is around 7 volumes, Overlord Season 1 is around 5 and a half Volumes, etc... So of course something like 14 Volumes in 6 Episodes would be an absolut terrible experience...

A good example for a messy anime adaptation where they tried to cram too much content from the manga and it ended terrible is the second season of "The Promised Neverland". Season 1 was fantastic and they really messed up with the sequel. This anime is great man, glad you decided to keep watching! I got impatient and read the manga (116 chapters, twice in a weeks time, I know I have a problem), so I cannot wait to see your reactions for future episodes (and seasons hopefully)!

i appreciate the reaction! some notes: - regarding the audition process, i'd guess that first group ruby was aiming for was probably for AKB48 (or one of its sister groups). there's definitely a similarity between kpop and jpop groups wanting the audience to like them and root for them, but the structuring may differ. from what i'm aware for kpop, an agency may host general auditions, training them up in what they need, finding their specialties, possibly taking years. trainees may sometimes not debut due to a variety of circumstances, working so hard to be unknown names. otherwise, if they do find their chance, their debut comes only after their talent and skill is refined as much as possible. so for them, there's the excitement of seeing amazingly skilled performers at the top of their game. compare jpop, where part of it is seeing the idols grow - there's typically a standard bar set for some degree of ability, but the focus is on the idol having fun, and the fans being happy. even if a jpop idol does have a lot of promise or raw talent, the potential they have isn't necessarily refined before their debut - that growth you see happening makes their accomplishments satisfying in a different way. - the part about chika idols is spot on. chika idols/underground idols might also be referred to as indie idols. like they said, they can be good, or they can be bad - when they're bad, it's typically down to problems with management. but also yeah, pretty messed up for aqua to give that poor girl some hope by pretending to scout her lol. just to muse with the possibility, i'd hazard that her getting scouted specifically by ichigo pro might've been a factor that motivated her to dish out her gossip, where she probably wouldn't have.

Yeah this show is getting better as it goes. I noticed this video in the 3rd episode had a very important scene missing. Since its pass its not a spoiler now but in was always amazed with Aquas dedication to unlocking Ais phone, 4 yrs, 100 passwords a day with 30 sec luck up after each attempt. That's dedication for his objective.

@@RenderingUser the scene followed the part where he was typing the password into the phone after replacing battery of the third phone, they highlighted the scene in the show big time to show his determination explaining in numbers and time it would take for him to figure out password and to receive them names and contact info.

In the mainstream music industry auditions are pretty realistic. In Japan, a lot of singers I listen to participated in several auditions in hopes of getting a contract with a label. Casting shows are held worldwide: In Germany, we have formats like DSDS (Deutschland sucht den Superstar) or The Voice which is pretty much the same procedure. We have some bands which had been formed through a casting show as well in the early 2000s.

Aqua is literally driven by Trauma. Doesn't want his sister to follow their mom's footsteps ( cause that lead her to get killed ) Pushes off acting ( cause saw what showbiz is like for the star from behind the scenes) Plus crazy self critical. Thinking he isnt good enough while having actual talent. THE MOST IMPORTANT Its all about finding ( & killing) the person responsible for Ai's Death. You saw just how single minded Aqua is about that goal with the phone hacking. The fascinating part is Aqua has other interests & he cares about ppl in his life. He will dismiss all that as casual or insignificant for the sake of revenge. But the casual small insignificant things are the most important parts of your relationships with friends & Family

41:47 I remember the adaptation of Noblesse, a Korean manhwa (the Korean form of manga, but formatted like a long vertical strip) by a Japanese studio and put a whole season into one OVA (~70 chapters). They changed the Korean names to Japanese ones, skipped a ton of dialogue and character development to only highlight the main plot, and a lot of corners 😭. And then when the anime got a new season, they continued from where the OVA left off and didn't explain to watch the OVA before the season.

I feel nowadays more animes are closer to their source material (exceptions exist of course) but especially in the 90es and 2000s there were many anime that either wound up totally different (Fruits Basket about halfway, Fullmetal Alchemist, Soul Eater, Black Butler...) and many animes were stretched so much by fillers (Sailor Moon, InuYasha, OnePiece, ...) that it was hard to relate it with the manga source. That's why it's nice that some old animes get a remake (The Furuba (Fruits Basket) remake was great. I still like the old animes, but I feel it's a token of recognition of the mangakas hard work and creativity by staying true to the source. The other way round is actually rather hard to tell, cause a series like an anime usually doesn't have to cram, they tend to differ if the ending hasn't been written yet, but cramming... Happens more in movies. I mean, animes with really long manga sources tend to just be long as well like One Piece, Fairy Tail, Detective Conan, ... I'm thinking really hard right now but on the spot nothing comes to mind.

an example of that (a bunch of manga chapters stuffed into one season) would be Promised Neverland. I didn't read the manga but I remember everyone complaining about season 2 being a total mess in that regard and I, as an anime watcher could see that it felt rushed. The first season is super good tho, honestly, it could be its own story and end there.

Kana might have been jealous of Aqua in the past, but you've gotta remember that that was when they were little kids. They're high school age now, and Kana's gotten over her jealousy and grown to respect Aqua's acting skills. That's one of the reasons Kana is amazing, they could have made her hold a grudge for years and just be spiteful and angry, but they had her actually go through character development over those years

The best comparison I can make to the show they are doing here is like taking the Netflix adaptation of Cowboy Bebop and comparing it to the Anime. That's probably more similar to what is happening here because it was adapted for a streaming series. And you had a lot of people involved in that production that didn't care about the source material. They were also more concerned with their agenda. In Bebop's case, it was telling their own story rather than telling the amazing story that already existed. The actors that were cast could truly have done a great job with the existing material, I believe that's where the difference between the 2 lies, if they were given a chance, but they never were. It was doomed before the scripts were finished. Same could be said for the Netflix adaptation of Death Note, which is why so many of us don't have a lot of hope for the Netflix One Piece adaptation that is being worked on right now. We've just been burned too many times.

To your question about bad anime adaptations, a very good example would be The Promised Neverland. Put in it simple, it's almost like if in Death Note, there's no Ryuk, L dies without Light's intervention and then the story abruptly skips years to a point that it misses entire arcs of good writing. The Promised Neverland anime skipped 2 arcs in a row, including the introduction of very important characters that helped the main characters to develop their day to day skills, almost like if in Attack on Titan they never introduced Erwin Smith, but somehow the entire squad still got the same resolution to continue to go out of the gates pursuing freedom.

So basically Her, (the one supposedly talented big child star getting out shined by some guy no one knew) TO HER meant. "Oh no... do I actually suck.. but I'm the one with talent. I cant be bad. May not be to the same extreme, but that was how I felt with Tokyo Ghoul. The anime adapted 322 chapters in 48 episodes, whereas by comparison My Hero Academia adapted 328 chapters in 138 episodes.

I would say the best examples from the top of my head is Tokyo Ghoul:re (sequel to the original Tokyo Ghoul) and the second season of The Promised Neverland (they cut off a pair of major LONG arcs of the manga and cramped everything else into 12 episodes, of which the last few chapter in the manga where shown during the ending song, as a Powerpoint with music over it...
