Truly heartwarming. Irma Thomas is a legend and deserves recognition. I love how Jagger let Irma took the vocals of the song, which was her from the very beginning.

They play music from other culture because they like it and how better can you show respect , they were always fans of American blues/black music/soul/ jazz / … playing music of other people/culture is not racism but showing tribute and respect to those people and culture ….. nowadays everything is racist ( sick world is nowadays )
If the Stones hadn’t brought the blues back to the USA it may well have died here because of Jim Crow making touring so difficult for black blues musicians.
As soon as I found out that both the Stones and Irma were going to be at this fest, I had a feeling that this was going to happen. Ty for posting this.
I finally got to see The Rolling Stones live and in person. Honestly one of the highlights of my life. They are my favorite band and never ever thought that I would be able to see them play
Stones: "Happy" with success of their 1st U.S. hit & sales of that song "Time Is On My Side" Irma: should be happy someone covered it , made it a number hit, & ... OH ... the royalties ever after
I'm not sure she got any royalties from the song. The composer\ lyricist: Jerry Ragovoy should have rightfully received most of the royalties, but a lot has changed since 1964, when performers were getting ripped off.
I remember listening to a radio show hosted by Ruth Brown, hmm, maybe 60 years ago and she was praising a young up and comer..Irma Thomas. I forgot the songs she sang but ive loved her since that night, so long ago. Thank you!
I've been going to Jazzfest for over 30 years and talking to anyone who would listen about Mick and Irma doing this song together since I moved to New Orleans in 1976. So this is my number 1 live concert thrill of all time. I feel like this is a piece of the puzzle that completes one's life.
Glad you got to see it. I remember my first Jazzfest, and feeling the hair on my arms stand up When 80,000 people sang blueberry Hill. My dad had already passed but his spirit wear sure with me right that moment.

I took my one of my sons to his first Jazzfest and our best memory of that experience was line dancing to Fats singing Blueberry Hill on the Acura Stage. The coolest thing ever! Who is the gentleman standing at the back next to the drums who several of the band members acknowledged during the song with head nods, and Steve Jordan shook hands with after the song??

I saw Irma Thomas close out the Albuquerque Jazz Festival, She was bitchin and moanin (in a sorta good natured way. Sorta) about Mick Jagger stealin her song. Here she is singin a duet w/ The Man! What an amazing miracle to see and hear!
The highlight of the Stones set in NOLA. Irma sounds fantastic. Somebody should step up and record a new Irma record. Class act to allow her to shine on this particular set.
