Except that's NOT where the money is going. The money is going to the shareholders and bosses. 😊 I'm using 2 units of water per months and it costs £20.

Well this dismal rainy weather has been a blessing in disguise, hardly any need to water the plants. The "cost of living crisis" ought to be renamed "The Cost of Existing Crisis" TBH😞

When my daughter left home I changed to a water meter as there is only me now and my bill went down from £40 a month to £24 a month. The water should never have been privatised.

They have been saying for years they want to take control of the water systems. Bit like how they are taking control of the food market. Build a filter system and start harvesting rain water.

Try where applicable, getting a water Meter if you are 1 or 2 people. Another suggestion if you have a downstairs toilet use the water Butt to flush. Also if you have a Shower over your bath, Save that water and use it to flush the bathroom toilet, next stick a sink bowl in your bathroom sink and any water from washing your face and brushing your teeth can go down the toilet. Also fill your cistine to the brim with water saving device that expand for lazy days, at least you use the least amount of water. Right now when you pay for your Water you pay by direct debit and its there estimate.. WATER METER u only pay for what U use.

Instead of talking about the water companies raising prices to invest the government needs to take back the water supply from them and levy some hefty fines. Maybe imprison a few CEO for poisoning our water supply.

Strange that you did not mention that the water situation in Scotland is completely different. It has not been privatised and there are very few problems.

Try using a bucket in the shower to collect the water you lose waiting for the water to reach the correct temp. I hardly have to use any other water on the garden. Also if you don't have a dual flush toilet try putting a brick in the cistern to reduce the flush volume. We had severe water restrictions here due to drought and were reduced to 120 l/person a day, i got it down to 90l including washing. Saved a lot of $$$ too. Also check for people able to get discounts for aged pension or support payments. Mulch++++ to reduce evaporation around your plants, it also protects the roots in high temps and adds nutrients to the soil when it breaks down. Cheers

The amount of rain we’ve had this year, I don’t think the garden will need to be falling back on a water butt…

The water we have where I live has always been terrible can was often contaminated; I do not know if it still is because they do not have to tell us now. I live in the Birthplace of Bourbon; they have changed the rules as to what constitutes bourbon, one is that they no longer have to use the local fresh limestone water, but they can use purified water. All sorts of distilleries are going up all over the area with that,(and differences in the barrels, plus the speeding up of the "aging" process), and our reservoir keeps getting nearly drained. It will not take a major disaster for us to lose water. Many places in the States have made it illegal to collect rainwater.

Here in Portugal we have a water meter. We are super careful and had thought about getting a water butt until we talked to Harri's parents. They have two in their garden in Wales which collect all the water from their large bungalow's guttering (so a lot more guttering than, for example, a terraced house). They told us that once a dry period starts, the water only lasts a few days. It's one of those ideas which sounds great in theory but doesn't make a huge difference in practice, I'm afraid.

If you have a water butt. A lot of water companies give you a discount on your water bill.

It depends on the water butt volume. The smallest (100L) is actually only useful for watering the odd pot. I'm looking at a 5000L tank underground. I have 4x 250L on various roof downpipes and guttering on polytunnels. It all helps.

I had a water meter fitted when I bought my house last year, welsh water who claim to be not for profit wanted to charge me £99 per month, with the meter I pay £28 per month. I don't garden just have no talent for it but may get a water butt should there be issues with water supply.

Im looking into getting a bore hole / well for my garden, and large rainwater collecting tanks. Ive been looking into this for a couple of years. Our local beaches are "blue flag" thank goodness for swimming (and surfing, although that's a bit past me at my age!).

@@primeofmidlife I have a few acres, and veg growing is limited by having a water meter. I want to expand and get local community to increase the productive area. Just been quoted £8k for a borehole! Have you looked into community farms in your area?

My tips: Multiple waterbutts. A short shower instead of taking a bath. (And you do not need a shower every day. Washing cloth at the sink, every other day is just fine). Collecting water in a bucket in the sink when cleaning hands/ rinsing vegetables etc (use for garden or flushing toilet). It makes you so aware of how much water is being spilled.

Look at your water suppliers social tariff for anyone with certain health conditions and/or on certain benefits. I looked today and can save £78 this year on my metered bill but will be able to use as much water that I want for my medical condition...They don't advertise these social tarriffs...Pensioners on Pension credit can claim it and so can people on UC and some other benefits.

Alsatians re an active and intelligent breed that requires regular exercise to stay healthy and happy. Here are some general guidelines for how much exercise your Alsatian should get each day: Daily walks: Aim for at least two walks per day, lasting 20-30 minutes each. This will help your dog burn off energy, explore their environment, socialise with other dogs and people, and get some mental stimulation. It will start barking at neighbours and be a dog barking nuisance if they aren't socialised and get out much. Playtime: In addition to walks, an Alsatian will benefit from daily playtime that includes activities like fetch, tug-of-war, or hide-and-seek. Aim for at least 30 minutes of playtime each day. essential Training: Alsatians are highly trainable and enjoy mental challenges, so incorporating training sessions into your dog's daily routine can help keep them engaged and stimulated and safe for other people, their dogs and livestock. Variety: Mix up your dog's exercise routine with different activities like swimming, hiking, or agility training to keep things interesting and provide a well-rounded workout.

Look for the little ways you waste water e.g. dont leave the tap running while you do the scrubbing part of cleaning your teeth; dont over fill the kettle; dont over fill your saucepans- or better yet - get a stove top steamer; dont wash your fingers while cooking under a running tap ( i need to work on this one). Some of the other folk have already made suggestions that I already do. Any more so that we can help each other on here??

From Welsh Water's own website: Glas Cymru is unique in the UK utility industry in that it is: a private company with no shareholders, financed in the capital markets, with no government support; and. all financial surpluses are used for the benefit of its customers. It doesn't pay out dividends. The situation is very different in Wales so please don't confuse it with England.
